The title says it all. I've recently looked at the Balrog model from The Lord of The Rings, and I personally do not like some of the Daemon prince models for Chaos. But bottom line, if i do use a Balrog for DP, how worried should i be that people wont let me use it?

Thanks in advance.

I don't see why not fella. If you kitbash it a little bit, at least so it looks more 'Chaos-y' and less Tolkien, it shouldn't be a problem. I certainly would have no problem playing against it...

Friendly play you should not have an issue.

Tournaments, that is up to the TO.

Even in most tournaments it should be fine... it's a daemon, and more importantly, it's an official 100% GW model.

Is it about the same height? If so, I wouldn't have a problem with it, nor would most people.

For tournaments, I'd ask your local TO.

Its a freaking CHAOS daemon.

It can look like a Nightmare (hellfire horse) Unicorn Minotaur as far as I care-as long the proportions are right and there is a rational representation of his chosen options on it.

Gotcha, all of these make sense. proportions was one of the things i was curious about, because i do not want to be called for cheating or short cutting a model for advantage.

Does anyone have a picture of these side by side? I might take this idea as I like the Balrog model.

The Balrog is slightly larger and has significantly longer wings.

So it would be a little harder to get cover? I'd be fine with that.

I'm going to run one as a helldrake (after a little kit bashing). I love that model.

Not really - since you ignore wings on non-vehicles for determining cover.
It'd be about the same overall, just a pain to move around with wings that massive. I have issues with my Flyrant wings sometimes and they look smaller.

GW used to not allow LOTR models into WH games, due to some copyright with New Lines Cinema. Since GW doesn't sponsor anything anymore, who gives a rat's ass if you use it? Show up, bring it to a tournament, and don't make a big deal out of it and they won't either. The Balrog is truly awesome, let it have some love in a game people actually play.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Looking at the side-by-side comparison, though, I will say that those wings could present a reasonable challenge to being able to move/deploy/use the Balrog, depending on your terrain.

The Balrog should be perfectly legal in any tournament. Its a GW model.

As long as you put it on the proper DP base you should be cool.

It will have a harder time finding cover, but so what? Its an awsome model and is very Chaosy

I know people sometimes steal the Balrog's wings for their DPs. why not the whole thing?

It won't really, by the above side-by-side anyway.

I remember seeing three of them on a table at a 40k tournament a while back. I think they were being used as greater daemons, but as long as you explain what it is I don't see any problem with it.

Ok, thanks i know the Balrog is 61 dollars, being 20 dollars more expensive than the regular ole daemon prince, but heck, I got to say the balrog looks a thousand times better, and it being bigger might be more intimidating on the battlefield.

I might have to look into this. That Balrog looks BAMF, and since wings don't count for cover, there's no power in the 'verse that can stop me.

I out with in both 40k and WHFB.
