The title says it all. I've recently looked at the Balrog model from The Lord of The Rings, and I personally do not like some of the Daemon prince models for Chaos. But bottom line, if i do use a Balrog for DP, how worried should i be that people wont let me use it?

Thanks in advance.

Well it all depends. For friendly games and games at your local store no biggie. If you play in a tourney they may have a rule against it. The only thing about the Balrog is that it is somewhat larger than the usual daemon prince models. As long as you don't mind your opponent being able to more easily target your prince I don't expect they will complain that it is too easy for them hit the prince.

I keep mine in my chaos stuff just in case I roll apotheosis

BTW, don't glue the wings into the model, if they are removable it is MUCH easier to deal with (and you have the option to run one without wings).

Only problem you will have is in the stricter GW stores.

Using the base balrog should be fine. But if you want to spruce it up it looks like it could take many kitbashes quite well, esp. the vents or other weapons from the daemon prince box.

It really is an awesome model. The dweller in the dark looks like he should eat something, OTOH.

Given that GW no longer supports any tournaments and they are all run by fans --- who cares what you bring. You can bring marines made out of LEGOs. So long as your stuff is WYSIWYG and consistent, you should have no problems.

If GW starts actually caring about the tournament scene, then there might be a push to use GW models again. As long as they don't care, neigher will 99% of TOs.

I do not think i will have many problems playing at a gw store, since most of the games i play are with my friends.

I use one as my bloodthirster; love the conversion.

A local player does that as well - works well.

Not as cool as his Great Unclean One converted from a christmas ball though, that thing is grand

I allready used the Metal Balrog from 2001-02 as my GD.

Here is Skarbrand the Exiled one using a Balrog and the old GD Face.

And the latest.

So yeah being GD's or even Princes, the Balrog is perfect, still needs a lot of bits and convertion though.

I have seen people do some really nice conversion work and I think they make an amazing looking Daemon Prince(well of Khorne at least).

I can think of one or two members on these boards who would certainly try to find some way to start a round-about argument as to why an extra 2mm on the wings constitutes a game-breaking WAAC move.

Given that wings are ignored for drawing LoS and cover for a model its not a huge issue.

Only thing they can possibly interfer with is giving cover to another model. But the Balrog's basic pose and size isn't great for giving cover to most models anyway.
