You tell me...

The title speaks for itself lol. Post a time you played a game with an opponent who annoyed the fun out of the game. Did he cheat? Take the rules to verbatim? Not know his rules at all? Smelt of monkey farts? Please don't use names just refer to this person as "opponent" or "John Doe" if you have to.

Ill start with a game I played a couple days ago. I schedualed a game with a friend at our local gw but this kid comes up and asks if he could play one of us. I knew my friend played a game earlier that day and our appointment was last minute anyway, so we decided that I'd play play this kid cuz I felt bad. he stated he was practicinghe was practicing for tourney games so I was like "o.k, ill try to be as tourney as I can for ya but you might win cuz I'm trying a new list out". We both had dark eldar and well... He was so annoying. As in he kept debating rules that were obviousley wrong! To name a few:

1. he insisted he read that units in assualt vehicles can assault OUT of the vehicle DURING the assualt phase. He did this cuz he couldn't claim objectives and tried to assault out to get them and got really mad
2. Then he insisted that units could move there charge range even if they failed
3. Then he stated archon shadow field 2++ could still be used in the same turn that it failed, and didn't go away until his next turn. When I asked why he was rolling one at a time (like you should since it goes away AFTER it breaks) he screamed "CUZ I WANT TOO!!!!"

This was just a few. Kid won by one point but I let him get away with more then I should. I guess I found it pointless to argue with a kid lol! I was informed latter he was infomouse for this lol. Anyway give me some of your most annoying experiences and how you dealt with it. Tanks much

One of my brothers friends. I refuse to play him anymore.

He will argue any rule in your turn if it goes against him. He will argue it to the point of reading the rulebook back to back until you have had enough and kick him in the ass to stop being an idiot. When he doesn't find it, he will insist on rolling off - not that it's a conflicting rule, jus tthat he doesn't think it should be going your way and not his.

He does this all the time. Every turn. He drags an hour long game out to several hours.

My egular opponent has a habit of measuring from the front of the base to the back of the bease when moving to get extra movement and also 'twisting' the direction of a scatter roll to be any direction but towards his units. I've overcome this by calling him on his movement practices and rolling scatter die as close to the target as possible.

This one guys,
1: Night fight, he kills one of my models, gets upset because it was just a servitor
2:My turn, I kill SO MUCH of his army, like wipe out a tank and an entire Walker squardron. He nearly calls it quits after that.
3: he gets upset because im following the rules where you have to take the second result of the roll(he made it, but didn't realized and failed the second roll)
4: Just wasnt fun

Up against a GK player, back in 5th,

Guy is a little slow, and any time he has a rules issue he screams across the game room to his brother (who is playing in the same tournament against his own opponent) for a clarification every single time.

The TO is standing right there. I'm not 3 feet away, rulebook at the ready. We have two guys hanging around who are rules gurus watching the game.

The git will only listen to his brother. Everyone else is lying, unless his bro confirms it.

His bro last played in 3rd ed, and only bought the 5th ed rulebook that day as his tournament entry...And he will only confirm rules that help his brothers cheesy-ass list, bending rules and FAQs when needed or utterly misquoting rules from prior editions..

Yeah.... He was fun.

One opponent I was playing, my Orks vs dark eldar. Just horrible from turn one. Bad sportsmen ship. Bad pre measuring for distance. Throwing dice. Abusing jet bike rules. Just horrible. Haven't played him since. Thinking back for all my games(started in march this year) that has been my only horrible opponent. I've had bad games, angry dice gods, but good players who love the game as much as I do, and try to remember its just a game.

There's this one guy I refuse to play with unless he types out his list and gives me a copy, because any game he doesn't, he says he is "severely under pointed" when hes deploying and he adds more models to the field. Then after the game, when I run his army through its codex, i come to find out he fielded 2000 points in a 1500 point game

One thing that annoys me about a lot of players (or stand byers) is when they point out what they believe are flaws in your strategy. I can think of some examples. like this guy questioning why I took a hexrifle on a haemy ancient and inputed that he thought it was a stupid choice. My honest answer was simpley "cuz its my army, and it looks cool my friend" I know rhey might not mean harm but it is a pepeev

A pet peeve of mine is when this kid asks to watch nicely eho said he never played before in which we reply sure. Then all of a sudden this kid knows so much about strategy and flanking, art of war and call of duty, ugg the smell was horrible. It didn't hit till after a minute or 2. Like a stentch crawling at you. He finally left but that was still a bad smell. I hate when people don't showed and smell horrible. There is a difference in the I'm sorry about my BO I was working earlier, and the more common just never change or shower kind.

I played a guy at my FLGS that was absolutely HORRIBLE.
He refused to buy any GW models. Fine, I understand that the prices are pretty high. So he proxied everything. Here's the problem. He usedsthings like pirate ships and little green army men for his Guard and Chimeras (there are many worse examples). The sizes arent even close to proportional.
The worst part is that he will just switch which units are what and what they have. Because its all proxied, theirs no way to tell. A vet unit with meltaguns will change next turn into a company command squad to issue orders or the leader now has a power fist instead of a CCW. No body could call him on it because there was no way to tell what anything was.
Eventually, he was banned from the store for cheating and was arrested for tax fraud. I've never seen him since. He was easily the worst opponent I've ever seen and played.

That reminds me Loooooopooong time ago I had one kid come up to my sisters 40k game lecturing everyone how a real mans game is cod yadda yadda yadda. Now I'm more of a passive person, and will speak my mind in the most dier of situations. But my sister? Total opposite. She ripped him apart in the most colorful of verbage one could do.

Oh and another time I was at a gw located in a mall, enjoying good times when a group of religious nuts yried to baptize us and started singing outside the store. Now please note, iv done some missionary work but there's a time and place for everything. The way they did it just left a bad taste in everyones mouth

Theres one guy that I've played against a couple of times who I find a bit annoying to play. He's a decent guy and everything, he just cares way more about the win than having awesome things happen during the game. He always uses WAAC lists even in casual games. and never uses any units that are less than the best in the codex. I understand that for some people, winning is what makes the game fun, but he really makes the game less fun for others.

I used to play with a group from HS. We were the Strategic Gaming Club, but most of us were friends, except this one guy who should have been born in the Imperium. He would argue every rule every roll, all my fluff "would never happen" but that wasn't the end of it. If his dice rolled bad, he would say 'oh it rolled off the table'. He thought because he was JROTC he was some excellent strategist, but he just had some good SM lists and couldn't handle a 3 person fight. He mixed rules from different rulebooks and Codices even though we used 3rd mostly and the rest of us used one codex. He was no fun, I didn't care if my Orks won I just relished when a PK exploded something or I got some good kills, It was about being nerds with your other nerd friends and smoking a cigar when your warboss doesn't give a and destroys a tac squad or two by himself.

We play in house and never play torneys, we smoke and drink and play a "gentleman's game". That being said you believe that everyone would try to make the game as enjoyabler as possible since nothing is on the line except friendship.

We have one friend who is always trying to get one up on everyone.

-We always have to check his list's math. He's been over as much as 500 points before. When's the last time you carried the 5?

-he always places walls down and makes everything lethal terrain and complains when you do it.

-has never physically read the rules but will argue you down if he disagrees with you. Still wants to roll off when you find the rule in question in the book.

-will ask what your playing tonight, then proceed to "tailor" a list to beat yours.

You may ask ourself why we kep this guy around.........has the finest greenery in the state.

I love having people ask what I'm using! I tell them hoarde guard and the. Play land raider rock space marines. It annoys them to no end!

But my most annoying opponent isn't really that bad. He's just the basic type to argue a rule ONLY if it benefits him. He also only uses the best codex's guard/grey knights/and others. And god forbid you forge one thing and ask to re-do in a friendly game. Like this example, I moved all my units but 1 then moved onto shooting, I forgot to move the one unit and had only ran another unit in shooting phase, I ask for a redo to move the one unit. He says no and kind of laughs saying should have thought about it, this is fine in tournament games and I'd never even ask, but Ina friendly game? Srsly?

I freely tell them i play Orks.

They then tailor up for anti-horde with flamers and low-strength cover-ignoring pieplates.

Then my Battlewagon Meganobz or (less often these days) my Walkers of Doom roll over them.

'No Fair! You said you were playing Orks!'

'I am. Said nothing about it being Green Tide '

Next game, watch them tailor their SM lists for antitank.. Pull out Green Tide

Orks are so much fun at times

Honestly, I'm not bad at reading which opponent I should play, and when I do get paired up with someone I know I'll hate, that's the benefit of playing Necrons: you always have the option to roll out the cheese. It's the only situation I will, but it's good that it's an option.

What I truly can't stand is some of the people who come to the table and comment, particularly the tooth-grinding "that's not wysiwyg!" comments. I like to custom-build my armies. Yes, I have a necrospinx defiler and sang-thousand sons raptors. No, my opponent doesn't have a problem with that, I told him what everything is and has before the game started and it's clearly on my list. No, he didn't get a "points handicap" for me not having the right models.

Seems like people are getting more and more interested in commenting on other peoples' games instead of playing their own.

"Got you, Yugi! Your Rubric Marines can't fall back because I have declared the tertiary kaptaris ka'tah stance two, after the secondary dacatarai ka'tah last turn!"

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

"you think it is you who has gotten me, yugi, but it is I who have gotten you! I declare the ever-vigilant stratagem to attack your rubrics with my custodes' ranged weapons, which with the new codex are now DAMAGE 2!!"

"...which leads you straight into my trap, Kaiba, you see I now declare the stratagem Implacable Automata, reducing all damage from your attacks by 1 and triggering my All is Dust special rule!"

My most annoying opponent would probably be my best friend. He plays Necrons (Because I described them as Robot Zombie Space Skeletons originally) and pretty much knows what all I have and what I typically run, so I can never take any heavy support vehicles because he'll just glance them all to death. It's not really annoying, perse, but I get annoyed when I can't feel safe bringing in a Defiler or Fiend.
But, it is hilarious when I start mixing up my lists. I decided to bring in Ahriman with TSons once, Infiltrated next to his Immortals, and just tore them apart.

There is a guy I used to play with that was most definitely a WAAC player and pulled a bunch of crap like quitting if he looked like he was going to lose and loved to argue about every rule in the game. But the final straw for me was that he tried to act like some type of gang banger and to match his gang he did an army called 'Crip Angels' right after I had bought the BA army I had at the time. Oh and as someone stated earlier about hygiene......he had none.

While I have a personal hate for obtuse power gamers who think there's nothing wrong with always bringing the 'uber competitive lists to the local 'friendly gaming nights' and see nothing wrong with clubbing baby seals, my 'most annoying opponent' would be the guy who's also a complete WAAC's crybaby.

For example, when we were helping to run an independent league, this guy was infamous for tailoring his list to his opponent and then very smugly going on about how, "my leafblower can't be killed by MEQ's - this is going to be a two-turn game at most!" and similar.
So, the one week, his opponent had to re-shedual their game for a later date and this gakker was left to try and look for a pick-up game. Not wanting the younger kids to get roflstomped by the donkycave, I told him I'd give him a game that would probably be more fun than killing Little Timmy's AoBR based Marines.
He wasn't super thrilled about it, but asked me what army I'd be using. I told him 'Chaos'. So he waddled off to tailor his list for CSM's.

During deployment, he won the roll-off and told me to deploy first. I looked at the table, and announced, "I'm done!" He looked somewhat dumbfounded and after a few seconds told me there's no way to play a 'drop pod' CSM army legally and Forgeworld wasn't allowed. I told him that my codex's deployment forces me to always Deep Strike in on Turn 1.
Then he cried foul that I'd lied because I told him I was playing CSM's! To which I told him, 'Chaos' can also be Daemons!

Suffice to say, his maxed-out melta-vets & Exterminators were pretty fething useless against my Tzeentch/Slaanesh force and his mech wall was torn apart in short order by my Bolts/Breaths, Screamers, rending units and The Changeling!

He quit after the third turn calling me a cheater because I'd lied to him about what army I was playing... Whatever, the guy's a total terd and when my manager heard what I'd done to him, he bought me some more Daemons for being the person who caused the donkeycave to quit and never darken our store again!

While I agree re-dos can be taken it kinda slows down the game and when you can't re-do it makes you think more your actions.

I always allow re-dos but if my opponent doesn't allow re-do neither do I. Same game for both.

Every time I hear "in my opinion" or "just my opinion" makes me want to strangle a puppy. People use their opinions as a shield that other poeple can't critisize and that is bs.

If you can't defend or won't defend your opinion then that "opinion" is bs. Stop trying to tip-toe and defend what you believe in.

Worst for me was Mr Stinky. Guy was huge but it smelled like he'd crapped himself. He also had this white'ish powder all over him. Didn't have a choice since it was a turny. Every so often a draft would come through and I'd try not to gag. I'm a nice guy and I don't know if he can help it or not so I just tried to be nice and not embarrass the guy. Worst opponent for me was a nice guy but stunk to high heaven. We nicknamed him Stink Ass Dude and eventually talked about him in a recap of the small tourney during one of our first HittingOn3s podcast episodes. We never used his real name so offer some semblance of anonymity to him.

The next time I played him? Didn't stink. Maybe the one day was a fluke or maybe he heard it and took it to heart. Who knows.

I did have a run in with a guy who liked to give me advice after beating me with a pretty cheesy list.

I suppose if those two are what I consider to be my "worst" opponent, I'm pretty lucky.

I out with in both 40k and WHFB.

I haven't played in store since 4th edition so no new occurances but back then we had 2 guys everyone knew to watch out for.
The first one was this guy who would cheat in every game he could. When called upon it he always claimed ignorance or misunderstanding a rule but after your 3rd game you would figure it out. Whenever we played team games his teammate would always have to watch him to keep him from ruining everyone's good time.
The 2nd guy was someone who, in 10 years of playing him frequently, I have never beaten. Despite this record he had some anger issues and every time he failed 2 consecutive rolls he would curse then toss his dice across the room.
Now you might be wondering why we played with these 2 characters but I live in a smallish town and do not have an abundance of players. You play with those you can. The plus side to these guys is they were both owners of multiple armies and willing to play many different kind of games. Also once Mr. Angry left there were always free dice laying about

Back in 3rd edition I had a friend who would always fudge his list (extra 10-20% points), always have extra wargear (like vortex grenades) when we knew he hadn't bought it... but would rage quit/ go berserk if anyone questioned his integrity... always a little akward.

Right now I run a HS club, and other than some personality mismatches, I've been very pleased with how well 6-12 teenagers get along and how quickly they've picked up some pretty solid tactics. However, they can't sight scatter dice without fudging them to their advantage and their second and third row charge distances get extra inches all the time.

All in all, other than the occassional stranger showing up from another FLGS and not knowing where their house rules/ 4th edition hold overs end and the real rules begin, we don't have too many problems.

for me it would be one guy from our store league . the games dont have a time limit so before each of his phases and after each one of my he would go out and have a smoke . and yes this means doubling up stuff. he would smoke pregame , drop his pod , go out smoke , roll his turn and before my turn started go out to smoke again . after my first turn he would go out again etc etc. ultra anoying .

Some guy, a banker, from Frankfurt. I met him in a GT final and a TOS. Playing only for the win. I hope he now has kids and can no longer play 40k with high intensity.

I recently had a kid lie and give evasive answers when I asked if his army was from the IG codex or if it was some FW variation. Totally fething lied, until I asked him why he wasn't rerolling after executions. I beat him, even though I held roughly 200 points out of the game.

As a discussion grows in length, the probability of a comparison to Matt Ward or Gray Knights approaches one.
