Just in case my fellow dakkanauts that are also PC gamers didn't notice, THQ, in its money grubbing ways, has released a Humble Indie Bundle.
http://www.humblebundle.com/
As I post this you can still get Saints Row 3 for less than 6 USD. I bought it mainly for that and to round out my Company of Heroes collection. Darksiders, Metro 2033 and the gakky Red Faction are just a bonus!

I paid my $6 (£3.80) yesterday.
Great bargain.
I also got it mainly for Saints Row the Third, but Metro 2033 and Darksiders are supposed to be quite good, so I look forward to trying them out.

I've got the CoH series and Metro, but I don't have the others yet. Kicking around the idea of dumping some cash into it, as Humble Bundles are also my primary way of making donations. Sad to see the EFF isn't on this one.

You mean in its "money hemmoraging, about to lose their ass" ways. THQ is in a pretty bad way financially, which sucks because they're the last major studio who produces games I actually like.

Irrelevant nonsense. THQ is no more money grubbing than any other company. In fact, that they're doing this event-- whose proceeds go to charity-- seems to indicate that despite their financial situation they aren't really quite as money grubbing as you would claim. I don't see Bungie or Blizzard doing this with their last major releases. Or EA and Activision if you'd prefer to stick with developers.

Eh I didn't mean the money grubbing comment too seriously, it was referencing this article.
http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2012/11/humble-thq-bundle-threatens-to-ruin-the-brands-reputation/
(The synopsis is that they are doing it as a last ditch to line their pockets before they go under, making money off the work of employees that have long been fired. I don't really care either way since it is a great opportunity to pick up some good games cheap)
The beauty is that yes you can give all your money to charity or the Humble Indie Bundle team if you'd like.
What will be interesting to me is that usually the HIB's have a second wave of releases part of the way through, so who knows if/what we could get then!

If anyone has played Metro 2033, could you tell me how linear the game is? Is it more like Fallout 3, with one massive level and respawning enemies, or more like Dead Space, with no backtracking between levels and a limited number of enemies?

It's utterly linear. That being said, it's not terrible. You hit towns where you can buy ammo and stuff as you see fit, so there's a small amount of room for individuality.

Holy crap yes. I want Saint's Row 3 thanks.
Also made sure all my money goes to THQ. Video games are more important than stuffing the pockets of some middle manager somewhere.
I'll pretend for a moment that I actually have the time to play computer games at the minute, and ask others what games from the THQ bundle they'd recommend.

I doubt that this Humble Bundle will make any difference in THQ going under, so you will just be stuffing the pockets of a manager at THQ before they close

Again, you can specify the amount of money going into the company, so you can essentially put it into charity.

Company of Heroes is great fun. And if you are into multilayer this will most likely inject some life into the online scene.
Red Faction took everything great about it's predecessor and cut it, so it isn't very good.
I don't know much about Darksiders or Metro sadly, but I am going to give them a spin when I find time. I still haven't played all the games I got from the last bundle....

Metro is very good, A linear STALKER would be quite a good comparison.
The complaints about THQ "not being an indie" is just internet chest beating as far as I am concerned.

Bungie's "last major release" was Halo: Reach in 2010.
Not sure why you'd bring them up, especially since they do console games and not PC games where it's pretty easy to set up things like the Humble Bundle.

Just a heads up, if you didn't like the games so far but really really want Titan Quest for some reason, it is now part of the bundle as well!
So is a DLC for the Red Faction game. Woo more stuff I probably won't get around to playing!
But Saints Row 3 has been great fun, so there is that!

Pretty much this. Troops see enemies and suddenly lose all sense of self-preservation, often forcing me to Retreat them because they won't respond to basic movement commands in favour of running around and getting shot. My artillery would struggle to hit the ground were gravity not constantly helping them do it, and they still manage to miss stationary targets more often than not. AT troops decide they want to chase the enemy vehicles and play tag instead of staying back and shooting from range - even up close they still miss; it's like having a squad of meltaguns next to a titan and rolling 4 1s to hit it. My tanks roll out of the building, roll up to an enemy, shout "I'M A TANK!" and immediately get blown to bits. If they manage to survive, they still can't shoot for gak, and WILL lose ANY sort of ranged firefight with anything.
