Hi everyone,

I have a couple questions regarding the 2nd edition rulebook which I've been unable to find answers to in any review online (most available reviews either cover the 1st edition or only go over the rules changes for the 2nd edition). I don't have the opportunity to find a hard copy in-store to leaf through at this time...

So, my questions:

1) Does the 2nd edition, like the first, contain a set of paper starter fleets to learn the mechanics?

2) Does the 2nd edition still have rules for creating custom ship types (I read somewhere that the 1st edition did)?

And a broader question: are there any rules, in the rulebook or elsewhere, for running a campaign in Firestorm Armada? I found one set on The Black Ocean that looked pretty good; I was wondering what else might be out there.

Thanks!

(EDIT - put game in title)

Maybe want to put which game it is in the title bud ;P As far as i know it wouldnt come with paper ships, just copies of tokens and turn templates, there WERE and as far as i know still are ship creation rules, and it only has 1 campaign book atm. Course that would be a fairly linear story campaign. Theres nothing stopping you setting up your own.

Oops - fixed that! Thanks for pointing that out...

Yeah, I'm considering drafting my own campaign at some point... Just was wondering if there was something I could find to avoid reinventing wheels and such.

Thanks, though!

Hmm theres a few things, if you dont mind reworking material, (and once the SG forums are open again) in the Dystopian Wars general discussion there were campaign frame work and guidelines someone had made stickied, it was map and resource based, (as in capture these territories to get 100 points to spend on repairs or new units). Bit of work could redo it in space no problem.

Course it all depends what kind of campaign you want to do, my group recently did a flow chart style campaign too for instance (can pm you a basic framework if you want), or you could go for more scenario based matchups over straight points competition (like the SG campaign books tend to be, some of the battles in them really are uphill struggles. fun though).

Hello,

I am the owner of The Black Ocean a community site for Sci Fi War Gaming.

First let me answer your questions.

The second edition hardback for Firestorm does not contain any cut out fleets. There is no need for despair though as the community has remade cut out fleets for you: Cut Out Fleets by Danno

Also custom ship building rules are not included but we can help you out there too.

Alexmann has made a Custom Ship Builder based on the first edition ship building rules.

We also have an extensive document that has [ur=http://theblackocean.com/resources/Firestorm/Firestorm%20Ship%20Cards%20New%20Classes%20v2.pdf]Player Made Ship Stat Cards[/url]

Note that while not a campaign exactly the new Marauders of the Rifts rulebook does have a few scenarios that can be linked together to make a campaign.

Good luck and thanks for looking at The Black Ocean
