Hey guys; don't know how many of you it will affect, if any, but I feel like I should post it here, even if one other Elysian player gets to benefit from it.

I emailed FW last night, and they promptly answered a few of my questions; namely if the Elysians would get any 6th edition update to make all-reserve possible again, whether or not Vet Sergeants should be able to get lasguns, and if their Thunderbolt is still AV10

My reply was as follows:

Hi,

Thanks for your e-mail. Firstly, rest assured that we are currently working on a 6th edition update to the Elysian list; this will specifically address the current issue with flying transports.

The Veteran Sergeant should indeed have the option for a lasgun and auxiliary grenade launcher - add the following to his list of options:

The Veteran Sergeant may exchange his laspistol and/or close combat weapon for:

-Lasgun with auxiliary grenade launcher..........+3pts

The most recent version of the Thunderbolt should replace the version in IA8.

Please don't hesitate to contact us again should you have any further queries.

Regards,
Forge World

Pretty happy about their prompt response, hope this helps some of you guys like it did me.

Sadly, e-mails are not worth anything rules-wise. The responses vary wildly, even when the exact same questions are asked.

I know thats the case with GW, but I assumed FW had different teams answering their emails, so maybe their answers are better and more consistent?

Can't wait to see this show up in an FAQ. I like Elysians and I hope FW keeps their army lists up to date.

Official word on the matter seems better than nothing.

True, and I agree with you completely that it's better than nothing (especially seeing as everything makes complete sense), but it's not very "solid" rules so to speak.

Whilst GW rules emails generally go to customer service monkeys, I'm pretty sure that FW enquiries go right to the rules development teams themselves, which is why they were able to give him the correct option in their email.

I've never heard of GW customer service correcting any unit profiles, so it seems logical to assume that FW know what they're doing if they're able to dole out the correct option, wording, cost and all, in a reply email.

I doubt that they would have the time, they must get a fair few. They are probably busy with their publishing schedule.

From their FAQ:

Q3. Can I contact you with questions regarding rules for Forge World models?

A3.If you have any rules suggestions or feedback about Imperial Armour rules then please e-mail them to us at

ImperialArmour@games-workshop.co.uk

Please Note: This e-mail address is not for sales, events enquires or customer service problems. Please use the Forge World e-mail address for any such queries as this will provide a far faster response. This address is for game related feedback and will be read by the Imperial Armour Editors, not the Forge World Customer Service Team.

We cannot send out pdf's of our rules via e-mail, so please don’t ask for the rules for specific vehicles. We get lots of requests and regrettably we have to turn them all down.

Editors would make more sense, I was thinking that we were talking about the writers.

To be fair, I had sent the email three other times across the span of six months before last night.

So it did in fact take a while

I emailed FW a month ago about the armored battlegroup list and they got back to me within the week. Maybe they've started checking their email more recently?

Normally I'd agree with this, but the two questions are pretty common sense issues and the email answer really just says "yes, we're doing the most obvious thing with this". I wouldn't want to play by a supposed email answering a controversial question, but this is something I'd probably let my opponent do even without the email.

Yeah cept it isn't common sense. IG sergents for example cannot take lasguns, only pistols/CC weapons.

FW has lots of ways to update the list officially, a FAQ for example, if they do not then it's not a rules change.

Actually Elysian sergeants/commanders in platoon units have the option to trade their pistol or CCW for a lasgun with auxiliary grenade launcher (a unique Elysian weapon). It makes sense that veteran squad sergeants should be able to as well, and the most likely explanation (confirmed by the email) was that the omission was a simple typo rather than a deliberate choice.

Updated lists are in progress and will be released as pdf updates. The OP just got an answer early.

And, like I said, I'd insist on an official FAQ for something that was controversial or a major change. But a typo correction and an obvious common sense answer ("yes, use the updated Thunderbolt rules, not the old ones") aren't really in the same category.

Like I said, I had to email the same question 4 times over 6 months to get a response. Could try reiterating it again.

Entirely this.

It'd make less sense for Elysian IS Sergeants to be the only ones able to take it. Considering every veteran in the squad can take a lasgun with AGL, and infantry squad sergeants can do the same, the vet sergeant should too.

Lost in the Warp

Just wanted to chip in that I asked FW a similar question to this a few days ago:
I was wondering, would the Elysian droptroops list (notably the one from IA8) be getting an update because of the new 50% reserves deployment rule in 6th ed? Looking at something like what Chaos Daemons and droppod assault have, which allows you to deploy completely in reserves and do a 50% first-turn arrival. Additionally, the Vulture and Valk Sky Talon both have Vector Dancer, but the Valkyries and Vendettas from the IG codex do not. Is this right, or is one or the other wrong?

This was the response I got:

We've got a 6th Ed update in the works that will fix this, along the lines of the drop pod assault rule

With them stating "along the lines of the drop pod assault rule", it's making me think that they're going to let us do a first-turn deepstrike. Here's to hoping for first-turn Zoom-on with flyers, though.

No answers to my second question, however. Here's to also wishing they give Elysian Valkyries Vector Dancer.
