Hey Guys,

I am preparing a surprise for my brother for christmas.
I want to assemble and paint a Grey Knights army as a gift. (because he really doesnt have the time to do it)
Could use some help with the army list because I dont really have a clue as far as Grey Knights are concerned.
the modelcount should be rather small
I was considering something like :

1 HQ
Lord Kaldor Draigo
- - - > 275 P

3 troops

5 x paladis, 3 x nemesis-Psisword, 1 x nemesis-demonhammer, 1 x nemesis-wardingstave, 3 x Stormbolter, 2 x Psycannon
- - - > 335 p


5 x paladins, 3 x nemesis-Psisword, 1 x nemesis-demonhammer, 1 nemesis-wardingstave, 3 x Stormbolter, 2 x Psycannon

Probably not the best place for this topic. 40k General would be more appropriate.

However, no reason not to weigh in while I'm here. How much are you looking at spending on models? Does you know of any models he'd really like to have? I think a Psyfleman Dread would really be a good option too, as I don't see any vehicles.

Grey Knight Nemesis Dreadknight (On foot he is too slow, you need to at LEAST give him a Personal Teleporter. My suggestion would be PT and Heavy Incinerator. On multiple occaions I have been a to shoot across the flank of a table and take out a unit on turn 1 like this)

Grey Knight Purgation Squads (Drop this Completely they are a terrible unit. If you are using this unit as fire support you need to be using Dreadnoughts with x2 TL Autocannons with Psybolt Ammo. If you are wanting more power armor models on the table, you should be taking Purifiers same guns, better ablities)

Also is there a reason why you are not considering Force Halberds at all? I have found having the +2 Initative much more useful than having a 4++ in close combat.

With paladins you do not really need the extra initiative of a halberd and the force sword is decent defense against powerfists that can really ruin your day.


the warding stave is a lot more powerful in 6th edition. You can put all of The AP3 attacks on normal dudes. The AP2 attacks are at a lower INT so you can put all of them on the 2++ save jerk til he dies. Not mandatory, but it is very powerful against TH/SS termies and other units with a lot of AP2 attacks.


On Normal terminators, Halberds might be an option are they more vulnerable to normal wounds and could use the Extra INT.
Also make the normal termies 10 strong and give them a second psycannon.


I find that the dreadknight needs a shooting weapon first. If you have the points, you can give it a teleporter. The best shooting weapon for it is the Incinerator. Model and paint that weapon. The teleporter is not as necessary to model so you can leave it off for now.


Purgation squads are expensive for what they do. A 10 man purifier unit can take 4 psycannons and it much stronger in the assault phase. Their Psy power is not really helpful on a 24" weapon.
You could change the unit into a purifier one, or into some Strike or Interceptor units which are a little more cost efficient.
