Any opinions on it? I have not used it at all and have not heard much about it. So i was wondering what you all think and is it worth spending some penny on?

I've only used their spray can primers (uniform grey and matte black), and their strong, soft and dark tone inks (not the Quickshades in the tin can, the ones in the dropper bottles). I find their spray primers really good, but are a bit expensive so if you only wanted to prime stuff in the usual white/grey/black, there's probably cheaper alternatives. Their inks on the other hand are perfect replacements for GW's old Badab Black, Devlan Mud and Gryphonne Sepia, so I love 'em. The new washes arent bad, but the colours are a little different, so if you're afraid of change, and running out of your old washes, the Army Painter inks are great replacements.

Yeh i was looking at some of the prices and online there are some good deals.. Yeah the older inks are great from GW.. and i really like using them but they are getting low haha!! I might invest in some of their inks! thanks for the comment mate.

To expand on that,

Dark Tone = Badab Black
Strong Tone = Devlan Mud
Soft Tone = Gryphonne Sepia.

And as I said, it's the inks, that come in dropper bottles. Not their cans of Quickshades. They come in dark, strong and soft tone varieties as well, but they're for dipping, and thus leaves a really glossy finish on their models. The inks dries matte, and the difference between them and the old GW wash is inperceptible (to my eyes). They can be a little thicker sometimes, so shake well, and water down if you need to.

Also, their plate mail is apparently a decent replacement for Boltgun metal, as it has pretty good coverage.

Not a problem mate. I've only just started expanding into new mediums and paint ranges myself after GW changed their Citadel line. It's good to share experiences and help out when you've been in the exact same position.

I'ved used both the White and Black spray on primers and i've nothing but good things to say about them. The whites nice and strong. Unlike the GW white spray primer which i've found to be a little thin most of the time. Plus you get more in the Army Painter cans then you do in the GW ones and for pretty much the same price.

Yeh the seeming constant change of colours and "types" of paints (with there being layer paints etc) is getting to the point where im losing track of whats what haha

Mandatory warning regarding Army Painter spray primers: They work a bit different from GW spray primers. Because they use a quick-drying resin, you need to spray the primer at no more than 20cm, or you'll get horrible dusting on your models. By contrast, GW primers recommends you dont spray any closer than 30cm. Something to keep in mind.

I bought their complete paint set a while ago and have mixed feelings, though mainly positive. Most of the paints are great and provide good enough coverage, a few tend to be a bit on the watery side (for me it's been their red's and yellow). Having said this you get what you pay for and I have no regrets buying the set, although I'm still tempted to buy into the Vallejo Game Colour range to replace the paints I don't get on with so well. The set came with their brushes also, which are just as good as GW ones IMHO.

Their sprays are great and I agree with the others that their drop bottle washes are excellent, as are their metallics and black/white.

Finally the finish is a bit shiny, but with a Satin varnish I think they're fine. Their anti-shine matt varnish in a bottle is good, although I prefer using Vallejo's.

If you have the money I'd suggest Vallejo's full set, if not then Army Painter's is a great stop-gap and a good enough investment, covering the majority of shades and colours you'd need - but maybe not the greatest paints on the market. For me its worked out well, so I'd give their range a 7/10, with value being high on the list. I think you can get a set of 8-10 paints, a can of primer and a brush as a set for about £20 which is great value and maybe a good way to go if you want to give their main paint range a try.

Hope this helps

Hmm i didn't know that. Cheers for the heads up Ronin. That would explain why that my penal legion squad came out a bit dusty and under primed.

they have color primers that are pretty good and they have paints that match those primers 100%.

they are fairly limited in the number of different paints they have compared to vallejo or citadel but to be honest they have some of the best acrylic metallic paints

I bought the Army Painter complete set and I love it. The paints cover well and don't require to much thinning.

There's a guy oneBay selling several colours with free random second colour and free brush for £2.28... bought a few and am loving the ones that have turned up so far. I can see myself going all AP as my aging GW paints run out.

Call me lazy, but is there any pre-bottled washes? I don't have medium to thin down paints for washing.

Sorry, no. The three before are all. Although if you're only doing a small area water will be enough to thin it.
