Pavane certainly looks fun but a D6 isn't reliable to allow you to perfect placement, also casting distance is short so that puts the caster in danger.
I'm not sure what Huron's purpose is in this list and that's one fat nurgle lord, he could shed a few pounds and still be effective.
Pavane is fun! I agree that a
D6 isn't super reliable. However, even if I only got 2" on the roll, that should be enough to smash some units together for a template. Casting distance is 18", which is only bad because I will have to deep strike them somewhat close to enemy lines. This is why I include Huron in the list. Infiltrating some plague marines puts more pressure on my opponent early.
I will agree that I have a fat nurgle lord,
lol. I've played lists before where all I give my nurgle lord is the brand and mark of nurgle. This makes him VERY cheap, which is awesome. I do think you're right about that, just not sure what I'd add in place of all the fatness?
I'd put the chaos lord in a bike squad of 6-10 bikers and give them 2 flamers. Drive up in-front of the enemy and fill them with fire then use hit and run to get out of any combats in your opponents turn. Maybe drop the black mace too.
Hit and run? I think only the slannesh lord on steed gains that rule? This is a decent idea, and I do have the bikes to do it. I think dropping huron would make the most sense to put in bikes (I give up infiltrating for fast movement). However, using a slannesh steed means I can't bring plague marines as troops. And while the nurgle lord on a bike seems awesome, I can't fire the brand on him and go all out in the same turn. I think I'd rather infiltrate him as my way of getting across the board, and have him light things up with the brand.
Why not get the Masque for a HQ? She can pavane three units at once. Scribes only have one true chance and you have to some dice roll or somthing to cast it again. She is a loads better choice.
I agree! And its slightly more fluffy because of the whole nurgle/tzeentch thing. However... she can't join a squad. I feel like she'll deep strike in, pavane a few times, then get shot to bits. Only 2 wounds and a 3++ prolly won't save her. Scribes get it once for sure, then a 50% chance to get it again. And the scribes have loads more utility with Breath and Bolt. If the Masque could join a squad of daemonettes, there wouldnt be any question, but I think we could argue for either one in this case. Ideas on making the masque look more desirable/survivable?
I'd be tempted to put the plague marines in Rhino's with Havoc Launchers. With Huron as your warlord, you can outflank with it too. What'd take to pay for that, drop your Plague Marines down to 7-men with 2 plasma guns?
Rhinos are my true love who cheated on me with 6th edition. Every game I play with rhinos, I wish I hadn't brought them. Now plagues are fearless, and I probably won't do much charging with them, so it may not be TOO bad, but I just hate the damn things,
lol. Havoc Launchers actually sound like a good idea, but that would require me to stay back and fire when I think I should be moving midfield to support my daemons. If I dropped the scribes in and didn't have units infiltrating or moving forward, I'd be lucky to see the scribes next turn.
On a side note, flyers wreck your army. That Heldrake will be target priority #1 for anyone with 2+ flyers. I kinda like Forgefiends and Obliterators to help deal with the flying menace. Either that or you could spend 100 points on the Aegis & Quad Gun. and stick your cultists in it.
Why Oblits against flyers, may I ask? I have a couple autocannon havoc units, but I find that even they are unreliable against flyers. I agree that flyer lists direct counter a template list, and thats a major downfall of my list. Maybe I could add another helldrake with a autocannon? Give my opponent a choice - kill the flamer heldrake thats destroying the ground, or kill the drake thats going to be able to shoot me out of the air? Tis a lot of points to squeeze in, though. EDIT: Also, remember, with me moving midfield early, flyers at the most will get 1-2 turns to shoot me. Thats hardly something that scares me.
Flyers, in my opinion, are best ignored. I am lucky, however, to not play in a super flyer heavy meta.
EDIT:
Had an epiphany. I could brine the Masque and The Blue Scribes... how much fun would that be? I trimmed the lord down, took off melta bombs and 1 plague marine from each squad. 1738 total points.
