FBI officials later found that Schroeder also falsely reported he was the recipient of numerous awards and training from various combat schools, including two Purple Heart awards, three Bronze Star awards, two Meritorious Service Medals, training from Special Forces Assessment and Selection, Army Ranger School, Pathfinder Course, Jumpmaster School, Airborne School, Military Freefall School, and the Combat Dive Qualification Course.

I laughed so hard

Paul A. Schroeder, 41, of Shenandoah, was convicted of altering a military or naval discharge certificate

He altered his DD214 page 4.

The most Purple Hearts awarded to a single individual is nine. Former Marine Sgt. Albert L. Ireland holds that distinction, being awarded five Purple Heart Medals in World War II and four more in the Korean War.[10][11] Six soldiers, including a Medal of Honor recipient, were awarded eight Purple Hearts:
Richard J. Buck: Four awards, Korean War / Four awards, Vietnam War
Robert T. Frederick: Eight awards, World War II
David H. Hackworth: Three awards, Korean War / Five awards in the Vietnam War
Robert L. Howard: Eight awards, Vietnam War
William L. Russell: Eight awards, World War II
William Waugh: Eight awards, Vietnam War

Just like every other medal. What was incorrect in hotsuaces statement was "you can only recieve one" the purple hart is given whenever a person is eligible.

Someone fun to watch in action was Captain Larry Bailey. The guy is a SEAL, and when he hears about fake SEALs it doesn't go well for them.

Do you know any Rangers that are not Paratroopers? It would be a believable 214 for some guys. Dive school is not BUDS.

Seems silly to make that kind of claim at the VA...

I used to tell chicks I managed a burger king. Sadly that was more effective than my real job.

Lying about military service and falsely representing yourself/falsely claiming military awards isn't freedom of speech. It's fraud. It seems the house of representatives agree with me.

Thankfully if you bothered to read the article, you'd know you're only on the wrong end of that law if you misrepresent yourself in the name of personal/financial gain. (which is usually defined as slightly more serious then getting laid), so all the guys at the bar lying about being with a unit that hasn't been active since 'Nam or whatever only have the usual risks of angry actual veterans beating them bloody to deal with.

I agree it should be illegal to to lie about anything for financial/personal gain.
But I hear quite a bit of people calling to make illegal to even saying you where in the military. Which is what i disagree with. Slippery slope and all.

Sure, I think it should never be illegal to make a bald faced lie.

It should however be illegal to lie for any sort of tangible gain. Especially if any sort of legal document is involved.

In that case, its fraud and everything that goes with it. Otherwise its you being a bragging sleezey d-bag.

Well the law limits it to the former.

I think the way to fix the latter is to make it legal for actual vets to beat the tar out of the latter.
