Hey,

Wow... That's just... The height of trolling in every sense of the world...

But the article doesn't say the Nurse died because of the call. Just that she's been since found dead and that it isn't suspicious. Sounds more like this is just a coincidence (that she died so recently).

This may be a British thing but when police say they aren't treating death as suspicious that means it's not a criminal investigation. It could very well be a suicide.

Not suspicious just means not murder doesn't it?

No I get that. But the Thread title says the prank call killed her, which doesn't necessarily seem to be the case.

This isn't a court room. It's pretty obvious she killed herself over the prank call.

Its almost certainly not the case.
If it was suicide, there is a big chance that she already had some issues she was dealing with anyway. One event doesn't often cause that drastic solution, normally mental illness and/or a series of bad events.

The video states that the hospital was helping her through the traumatic time but she would have commited suicide over messing up so bad to the queen.

Given the complete lack of information in the article, it's impossible to say if it's odd, or anything else. She could've had a heart attack, stroke, slipped and fell in the shower, or choked on a biscuit.

Or maybe she loaded the biscuit with strychnine, but had second thoughts at the last moment and choked on it when she tried to keep from swallowing it. At this point, who knows?

I see nothing that convinces me of that.

Same. It could just be a coincidence. Do we even know the cause of death?

'Royal College of Nursing chief executive Dr Peter Carter, meanwhile, said it was "deeply saddening that a simple human error due to a cruel hoax could lead to the death of a dedicated and caring member of the nursing profession".'

Its possible. She could have felt depressed and this one slip up pushed her over the edge.

Perhaps if you used a less ambiguous article to begin with it would have been more apparent.

I find it highly unlikely that it's a coincidence. If it can be deduced there is a connection, then I'm on the side of all the people calling for retribution.

The Kasrkin were just men. It made their actions all the more astonishing. Six white blurs, they fell upon the cultists, lasguns barking at close range. They wasted no shots. One shot, one kill. - Eisenhorn: Malleus

From what I've been reading online, there's been no real hints at any remorse from the hosts. Aside from them deleting their twitter accounts.

One article, admittedly it was the Daily Mail, claimed that they were still advertising the prank afterwards.

Part of me is actually really hoping for a Manslaughter investigation, admittedly one that is then later dropped. The impression I've got so far is that they really don't realise that this is A Big Deal.

I'm not the greatest fan of Russell Brand, or a fan at all really, but at least noone died thanks to him.

Ugh, hysteria. The woman clearly had some issues, otherwise she wouldn't have killed herself. People calling for 'retribution' are really no better than the sorts of people who attend public floggings. Remove emotion for a second: Where's the crime?

Poor lady, it was probably suicide, but honestly if I was DA (or whatever the British equivalent is) I'd arraign the DJs on charges of manslaughter. It'd be a stretch to convict here in the states, but at least it sends a message.

Admiral Chester W Nimitz wrote:The war with Japan had been re-enacted in the game rooms here by so many people and in so many different ways, that nothing that happened during the war was a surprise.

Really you'd attempt to charge two Aussie DJs who gave probably the worst impression of a random British woman, let alone the Queen. For the suicide of a nurse who gave them confidential information? For what exactly? Fooling someone?
There was clearly no intent to harm or a reasonable expectation on thier behalf that harm of any kind could come to anyone as a result.

I can certainly imagine how the public awareness surrounding the prank could make the world seem a smaller place for her.

Why? Because it upsets you? It was a joke. As someone else has already opined, there was clearly no attempt to cause the woman to kill herself, or even to particularly distress her. I'm not saying it was funny, because Australians aren't, but there's no crime here. What's more, I find it slightly sinister that people would go out of their way to find something, anything, to nail these two DJs on. That's not what the law is for, and it's not the type of society I want to live in. It's like people are letting sentiment win the day. That's not my Britain.

The natural fallout of prank phone calls is to cause distress, I'm sure that it was never meant to go this far but thats no excuse. I'm not saying that we should look for anything to nail these people on but I am sure that current legislation will have provision to deal with matters such as this, at least if the perpetrators were UK citizens/in the UK. At the very least they should be heavily censured by their employer/who ever regulates Australian media.

No argument here, but I am very wary of getting into holding people legally responsible for other people's reactions to the things they say. It's a tremendous grey-area. We just have to be careful, is all.

Ok well I was hoping to avoid blaming the victim but...
What kind of idiot believes Mrs. Doubtfire is the Queen and second is so broken up about being the butt of a joke that she should have crushed had she had even mild competency or respect for patient privacy. Wha fething idiot tells any caller at all about the condition of a patient, let alone a public figure, regardless of who the caller is.
To crank that to 11 and commit suicide over wha is, all in all, not that big of a deal really just says she was too fragile to be in a caregivers position in the first place and points to larger mental health issues. She wasn't bullied or harrased, she was weak.
There now Im the bad guy. Thanks a lot.
