So here is my 1st ditch attempt at painting a Dark Angels marine. Not bad considering I haven't really painted any miniatures in like 10yrs. However, after seeing some of the cool stuff here I'm open to critique and tips.
Have at it...

Plain and simple: You need more detail.
While the over-all color scheme is fine and looks quite nice, the power armor FEELS plastic. You don't have any dark colors in the recesses of the armor, there's no wear-and-tare marks anywhere that I can see and it's difficult to distinguish all the innate details of the plastic model. (For instance, the right arm, it's hard to see the elbow pad, the seam along the arm, where the wrist is, etc.)
Now unfortunately, I don't really know how to do SM armor (I'm an orky guy), but I IMAGINE some dry-brushing would help liven things up a bit. It was something I used on some of my boyz and it really just helps details POP.

"Just the act of orks looting it defiles it! There are Techpriests rolling over in their graves!" "Yeah! I'm rolling over them in their graves!"
"The usage of shipping containers is much like 40k technology: It's been handed down from tech-priest to tech priest, until none of us really remember how it works and we go through many pointless rituals in the belief that it will keep it alive. " - Dayspring

There are darker colours in the recesses lol. Could probably do with some more Nuln Oil in there though.

So here's a little idea I've been playing with- rather than spending £13 on a Finecast Librarian I've cobbled together some Grey Knight terminator/Space Marine terminator and Chaos Terminator bits to produce my Terminator Librarian. Which in my opinion, looks quite awesome...I'm not sure what force weapon I want to go with though. Thoughts?
Force staff or Force sword?

Buy the sword from the DA terminator kit online(Ebay, it's $1.85), it looks pretty decent, and you could even cut out, and place
the psychic box/piece near the handle of the grey knight one on the DA sword. My point in saying this is, it's going to look like
a grey knights sword if you keep it as is. As for painting, get a black wash (Badab Black will work I'm sure) and get in there
with that, and highlight the edges of the armour lightly, and maybe even do a weathering effect with silver drybrushing. Like
someone else said, just add more detail.

I'm getting a FW Deimos pattern Predator Executioner soon. My question to you all is, what to equip it with? Options are Plasma Destroyer w/ heavy bolters/lascannons OR Conversion Beamer w/ heavy bolters/lascannons? Thoughts please. Automatically Appended Next Post: Plasma Destroyer is 36" range S7 AP2 Heavy 3, Blast 3"
Heavy Conversion Beamer is Upto 18" S6 Heavy 1 Large Blast Firing Calibration/18-42" S8 AP4 Hvy 1 Large Blast, Firing Calibration/42-72" S10 AP1 Hvy 1 Large Blast Firing Calibration
Firing Calibration- Weapon may not be fired if the model carrying it has moved in the same turn, regardless of the Relentless rule or if the carrying model is a vehicle, etc.

So here's what I've been working on this week... Found a base coated Terminator chaplain and started painting him up.. Here's where I am so far with him.
What do you think? I'm considering kitting him out with a combi plasma instead of the storm bolter he comes with.. I have also used an arm from the GK terminator kit so his elbow joint now has "SMITE" written on it

One suggestion I have is to work a little more on your brush control. There are several areas on your painted tac marine where you can see some spill over. Most noticably on the shoulder pad, where the white of the chapter symbol can be cleary seen showing through an area that is supposed to be green. Going back and touching up these areas would really help the overall appearance of the model.

Thanks- that was taken a while back. I have since revisited that one and given it a bit of polish so to speak.

Looking good man. The chaplains crozius looks cool and so does your gold. Three things that I think could help you improve: 1: Your paint looks a little thick in places. Thinning it and doing multiple thin layers will give you a much more consistent looking coat. 2: Washes. This will bring out the depth in your models. From arms length, if there is no depth the model will be hard to make out and won't look as good as it could. A simple wash and then repaint over the raised section in the same colour will make your model pop. 3: Highlighting. I used a Caliban Green base on my DA and then highlighted with a 1:1 Mix of Caliban and Warpstone and then again with a 1:1 mix of Warpstone and Moot and then finally straight Moot on the very corner pieces and sharpest edges. Keep it up fella, looking forward to seeing more.

Err...he's a chaplain? All black armour buddy. The armour is going to be highlighted in dawnstone followed by admin. grey. I've given him a wash of warpstone over the caliban green on the crozius wings which will be followed by moot Automatically Appended Next Post: also- where#s the paint look thick? I watered it down quite a bit...

I think they look really good. Maybe just more edge highlighting with the dark angel model :3 The comment about there being no weathering or damage to the armor is not a valid remark IMO.
There is many ways in witch someone can paint / theme something. Adding like a duty base and doing some dust or something around the feat and all that is something small but not necessary. I think more edge highlights, a clean up on the armour would do the trick.
Pro tip :3 dont use flash when taking photos man use a stable light source. Images will come out 200% better and if the model is really that shiney use a matte finish on it.
The Chaplin. Looking smick.. prob do some re highlighting with the base colour and keep adding white to that colour. wash hilt or w/e it is wre he is holding the weapon than rehighlight i think chap looks pretty good what do I no im a pretty bad painter lol.
I hope this helps, send me a PM if you would like anymore help

I chose not to put any battle scarring etc on because I'm just getting back in to painting so I'm working on my skills first. I've decided to give my chaplain the Lion's Roar (master crafted combi-plasma with blind special rule for those who don't know) *Edit: Highlighting is a pain- which is why I've left it off this guy until I've practiced on my troops first...

So here's my most recent mini- needs a little more work but it's more or less finished. Comments? Edit: I am aware that the key clasp needs fixing where it hangs from the rope.
