I've been pretty broke lately, so I skipped out on Dawnguard for Skyrim. But now I have the money to get one or the other, and wanted suggestions...

I have neither but unless you have a real love of vampires go Dragonborn.

Yeah, Dawnguard was disappointing. The only real plus in that, imo, is Serana.

Surprise surprise.

Guess I'll just languish in Agony until they release it for the PC.

The only things that are of any use in Dawnguard is arrow crafting, crossbows and the face changer.

Dragonborn has a better story and allot more content.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the ability to craft arrows and Dragon bone weapons.
Strange how they didn't have those to begin with.

Too late now to put my two cents in.

But I'm going to anyway!

I loved dawn guard, I thought the storyline was much better then dragonborn, and the faction itself was quite nice with good characters. I liked the armor and weapons, on the other hand, its like 90% in the regular area of skyrim.

I also loved dragonborn. I don't think the storyline was as good as dawn guard, but I loved going back to solstheim. I played a lot of morrowind so seeing some of the places and armors come back was fun. (Though I don't see using much of the armor) It is a new location that's very open and has a lot of exploring you can do.

A few weeks maybe a month ago, dawn guard was on sale. It's a shame you missed it but I'm sure it will go on sale before dragonborn does so you made the right choice.

The dawnguard storyline is 8-12 hours and the Dragonborn one is about 3-4 I.e. REALLY short!. Dragonborn has way more dungeons and side quests though.

So Dawnguard is less sandboxy than the Dragonborn storyline?

Dragonborn is much more like Shivering Isles. A couple hour long main quest but a new region to screw around in. Dawnguard was modeled after some of the Fallout 3 DLC's.

Heh. I dind't particularly like Shivering Isles myself. Although I did like the god.

So I don't think that's quite accurate.

Yeah, Shivering Isles was great

Dawnguard is the Knights of the Nine of Skyrim, where Dragonborn is Shivering Isles.

I liked them both, but Unless you really wished for Creatable arrows, Dragonbone Weapons and, a Vampire....Revamp, go with Dragonborn.

In Dawnguard's defense. Vampires really did need a revamp

I like dawn guard because of the faction that felt different then a lot of the other factions, the armor and weapons gave me a break from running around like Conan with a battle axe and fur pants on.

The coolest thing about dragonborn is the big new area with new places to explore, I think I liked it as much as I did because of morrowind nostalgia. Of course riding around on dragons is awesome.

Most defiantly, and they redid the Werewolves too, which was nice. Vampirism was just a list of Weaknesses unless you were a sneaky Spellsword.

Dragonborn all the way. Dawnguard was great and fun, but was still just a questline with some add-ons (won't complain about having a sexy unkillable former vampire following me around though). It also gave me a break from bows by getting crossbows.

Dragonborn on the other hand gives quite a lot more. The island isn't as big as it appeared at first on the map, but there is plenty going on there, with lots of locations and plenty of loot and enemies. Ash Spawn officially beat out Cliff Racers for me though as most annoying enemy. Lots of side quests too, some with some interesting choices to be made. There's some nice new powers from the Black Book quests as well. Haven't started the main quest yet as I haven't been recognised as Dragonborn by the Grey Beards yet in my current playthrough, but I'm very interested to see how the whole Miraak thing plays out; the brainwashed villagers building all his shrines are well creepy.

And while not part of the thread as such, I found Hearthfire to be surprisingly addictive, not to mention the house is incredibly useful to have for storage and other things.

The end of dragonborns main quest line was a bit disapointing IMO but its not a deal breaker. Its definetly better than dawnguard, realy likeing the black book thing.

I still dont get why the PC version doesnt get Dragonborn till 2013....

Doesnt matter to me though since I'm a cheapskate so I'll just wait for a wonderful steam sale.

Still glad to hear that Dragonborn has indeed filled people's desires for "Skyrim: Shivering Isles" (the only dlc worth getting in oblivion sans cheat house mods, and maybe KotN)

I must admit this is the reason I didnt see much use for Hearthfire. But that is just me (so many house mods!)
