After watching some gundam shows and looking at my models I thought is was shame that there isn't a system to utilize the very detailed and relatively cheap models. If there is enough interest would anyone like to try to adapt or create and stat sheets, maybe try to run a few games if your in the NY area. I can easily see a small skirmish game or large games with multiple low cost units being played on warhammer sized tables. The setting is also perfect with 40k's terrain being easily used for the gundam setting.

Games Workshop: Ruining Chaos Space Marines since 2007

First they raised prices on the Eldar, and I did not speak out because I did not play Eldar.

Then, they raised prices on the Orks, and I did not speak out because I did not play Orks.

Then, they raised prices on the Nids, and I did not speak out because I did not play Nids.

Then, they raised prices on the Marines, and there was nobody to speak out for me.

Shame I'm not in NY. That is a sweet idea.

I've been playing one for over a decade.

There's even 2 editions: one based off of 40K 3rd Edition and one based off of LotR.

The rules are Universal Century. One Year War(original series, 08th MS Team, 0080) to be exact.

So no super hero suits that can only be destroyed by plot "progression" determined by the need to develop an upgraded version.

There's a reason I own like 9 Zakus and 6 RX-79(g)'s.

That's cool, it's just a personal hang up I have over the progression of the series after a certain point.

Personally, I use MSiA action figures since they were cheaper to acquire at the time, close enough to 1/144, and I'm a whore for army building figures.

Looked at rules they do seem a bit dated though, also gundam has progressed a fair bit, can't alienate all the 00, unicorn, and AGE fans.

All of which take part in different universes from each other. I could see Char's Counterattack and Unicorn overlap and even F91 and Unicorn overlap, but unless you're pulling the "Dynasty Warriors Gundam" shtick of characters pulled from the multi-verse into a single new universe so they can all interact(which was stupid, though the game was fun), the franchise by its very nature is exclusionary of someone's favorite series.

The whole reason the game was set in OYW is that it covers the most series in a single era at a time when the most powerful weapons were mass produced(meaning that there's a better balance as there's no objectively more powerful suit, it's more down pilot skill). It's the setting that makes the best sense for a war game. The series that focus on super powered suits or a single suit are best left to the Monsterpocalypse style of games and in fact ARE catered to by the Fight Dice system that Nick developed(while it focuses now on Stik-Fas, it was originally developed for his Wing and G-Gundam collections).

In all fairness, part of the reason why the suits in Wing never suffered visible damage was because they didn't have the animation budget for it.

Also, all the universes do coincide... Turn A Gundam.

Universal Century had the most variety in suits s well IMO.

Do you mean the "Black History" stuff? The language used in it is all in the "supposedly" sort and it all mentions UC dates. The only one officially tied to Turn A's Correct Century is Universal Century.

Still, also wouldn't be a coinciding that would allow a cross over.

True dat. Last hand drawn series and the last series for the original creator/director.

I find 08th MS Team to be my favorite, but as I stated in another thread, I'm a sucker for the standard grunts being the main character in a series. I was a little upset when he received the EZ-8, even if it is only an upgrade to repair his 79(g). The GM parts on the RX's really sells the desperation of the repair crews because the RX-79(g) parts can't be built fast enough in comparison.

Well, not only is Bernie the best pilot in Gundam history (and the smartest!), he also made great hamburger. And there was like... emotions and stuff...

Also, I <3 the Kampfer.

There is always room for more wargame rules, in fact you are not a proper gamer until you have written a set (and preferably not finished it.)

Have a look here for some possibile inspiration...

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

Yes the Kampfer is hands down the coolest suit of the UC timeline (ignoring customs and one-offs).

This whole conversation makes me want to re-start my "convert Flames of War into 3rd edition MSGBS" project. For some reason, Codex: Combined Arms really made me love the idea of the side of the OYW we didn't see much: the battles that centered around infantry and tanks with a few Mobile Suits in support.

lol well this was to point of the thread to get stuff rolling (and to look for a group local to me so we could get some actual test games in).

I'd put feelers out to both any Gundam fan friends you have and your local gamers. That's how I found opponents back in the day.

What about Char? I mean, sure, the guy could be a dick at times (holy gak Char's Counterattack), but the dude was a total badass (just not as badass as Bernie). Gato was also pretty damn awesome.

And that's the difference between cool and likable, Char and Gato where some of the best pilots of the UC area but they were also among the biggest holes of the UC era. Bernie was actually a pretty good pilot all things considered and actually cared about collateral damage and not hurting innocent civilians, wish he had a chance to grow in someone the likes of char or Gato but with a heart of gold.

Norris Packard was also a really good guy. He was just getting the job done. Hell, he went up against the Federation forces alone just to buy his people enough time to escape.
