Dear Dakka,

After seeing the movie, does anyone else feel like the Hobbit line is totally lackluster? They could have had a Dwarf line vs. Orcs at the battle of Battle of Azanulbizar. Blog wasn't even in the movie, yet they have a miniature for him. Azog is nowhere in the line up, despite being the main antagonist of the film. Does anyone know what is happening? Will there be a second wave?

There is nothing comparable to the Last Alliance box set.

Thoughts?

They released what they released. There are 3 films. There will be many more models to come.

This isnt a 40k or fantasy army. Second waves arent for this game. It is a complete system where releases will be up to and after film 3. Give it time

^ pretty much this. ^
I thought it a bit weird how they've released Bolg and not Azog, but the rest made sense. All the main fighters in the hobbit are there (wargs, thorin's company, radagast, gandalf, goblins, goblin king)
Though I'm mostly looking forward to the second or third ones, whenever they release models for the men of Dale and Dain's company.

When the film went from 2 to 3 movies at a guess bolg was cut and azog left in. GW, toy makers and posters all featured bolg quite heavily in some cases as they were working with outdated information

Bolg does'nt come into the hobbit untill well after chapter 6 "out of the frying pan" wich is were the Hobbit film ends. Bolg will make an appearane in the film's at the battle of the five armies and maybe a few snippits here and there leading upto it.

Mainly found in the LOTR section.....

If the gw model and the old posters are anything to go by and the battle between dwarfs and orcs from the opening bolg wont be back at all

Except going from 2 to 3 films meant they produced more material, not cut it.

That's in the book, where Azog isn't even alive. Bolg appeared in the prologue to the Hobbit but just barely. However don't expect him to be leading the armies come movie 3.

Ahh well, There will always be differances between films / books as a film has to meet a wider audiance (Everyone + Fans)

Still. Gonna be a good trilogy

No doubt.

Except Bolg isn't dead in the film and I don't know why you would assume otherwise.

Well I went to the cinema and watched it.

An orc that looks 99% like bolg gets killed by tge dwarf king in the battle at the beginning. Its literally a blink and miss it pat

I think GW may have realized they made a mistake with the first LOTR box set. They went with the Elves vs. Orcs - the only major battle shown in the first film, BUT what everyone actually wanted was the fellowship. They figured this out in the end and released Mines of Moria as they're standard box set. This time around, they made sure to include the main characters in the box set as it is much more likely to get people interested in the game. That's my take anyway.

Then I guess you missed it, because Bolg isn't dead, in fact he is going to be in the other two movies.

If that were true then the game would have been more popular circa 2005 and not from 2001 to 2003.

No I missed nothing unless the bit you missed and apparently I did as well where the orc that gets torn to pieces and looks like I said 99% like Bolg dieing is some other random orc that looks exactly like him. Could be the case cant say i care just pointing out that the orc that dies is the model GW use for bolg

Except if it was the same as the model then it would be Bolg, and thus Bolg would be dead. But since he is in the other two movies, he is obviously not dead. Ergo, it was some other Orc who you mistook for Bolg. Which is what I've been saying all along. Not sure why it's such a big deal to you to insist it was him when it obviously wasn't.

As of yet the other two films I have not seen.
All I know is that an orc that 99% looks like bolg gets killed. A few people agree and a few aren't sure and some disagree.
Either way alive, dead, undead its a good film so far. Game aint too bad either.

I disagree. The game was sure to be at its most popular with the release of the first movie, when excitement was at its highest and GWs marketing machine was pushing hardest. It is now impossible to say whether or not the game would have done better if they had released Mines of Moria then, but my gut says that it would have. Either way, by the time they did release Mines, the game was already on the downward swing, and I doubt that any release could have brought it back to its initial levels.

My argument is that GW may agree with me. The could easily have released a box set of Dwarves fighting Orcs as appears in the movie, which would have been more in line with their first LOTR release, but instead they went with Escape from Goblin Town, which is much more similar to Mines of Moria.

I'm quite sure i saw Bolg in the movie for a splitsecond, but why would PJ hire an actor, have a costume designed for him and shoot scenes just to let him die within a second? i think Bolg will appear in at least one of the other two movies

I'm not sure wether that is a sword... it's more like a letteropener, really.

The actor that plays bolg is credited in the closing credits. He was hired to be a bigger part but I think with pj going to 3 films he was cut. Yes some would say why cut when its longer but theu cant fit everything in thus azog lives and bolg doesn't

I've been reading up on it. It seems that with the jump from two movies to three Bolg's role was changed. He was cut from the first movie and instead will feature in the Dol Guldur scenes in the later movies as the Lt. there. The scene from the prologue seems to be something that was missed, which is a rather embarassing mistake if it is him alright.

Ok what are you actually talking about? Earlier you said you think if they released the Last Alliance box at the time they released Mines of Moria and vice versa the game would have been more popular then. Then above you said that it would have been more popular in the early naughties because of the movies regardless. You then finish off talking about Hobbit box sets which has nothing to do with the releases both 7 and 11 years ago.

I just saw it again, and when the battle at the gates of moria, I did see an orc get killed which looked quite similar to Bolg, and it would be an easy mistake to make if you'd already seen the model, but the fur or whatever this orc was wearing was grey, not dark red, though it is a really short space of time it's there for.
so yeah, it's a really small time he's there, though it's probably not Bolg.

The end credits list the actor and bolg as credited in the film. I do believe with the film being made into 3 it is a huge mistake that bolg was killed off and that he may well return but if so it as godless mimicry says an embarassing mistake

You guys are missing the fact that Jackson will undoubtedly add another two hours (sort of sarcasm here) in an extended edition. Bolg will surely get his scenes expanded.

What Loki said. What was put in / cut & Changed in the first film will more than likly be in the extended edition.

And ya kinda could have guessed that it was gonna be three films. As "An unexpected journey" only gets to Page 33 of the book. Kinda a given.

And if bolg aint in the film you still got a good mini with some Sick rules to smash some dwarfs heads in with
