Anyone else going nuts with this?

I bought deus ex human revolution, condemned: criminal origins and metro 2033 for $30. Not bad, but then I saw deus ex for 5 bucks today lol.

Still, some great deals to be had and a good time to stock up on some games.

Yep.

The key to getting through a Steam sale is to pick out which games you want and wait for them to go on Daily or Flash sale. If they never do, you can just pick them up the last day. It makes a big difference if you want multiple games when you buy them for 75% off rather than 50% off.

Wow, good tip, I didn't know that. Waiting to see if far cry 3 or xcom have big discounts. Wouldn't mind playing the recent batman games either.

@Cave_Dweller No offence but you are clearly a noob in these steam sales. The goal isn't to get games you want for a good price. The goal is the get games as cheap as possible you liked them or not. So the best strategy is to wait if a game goes community vote or as a flash deal if not you buy the game on the last day to show the devs that you hate them because they only gave a lame sale. Also you get extra points for bigger discounts. 25%? You give them the finger. 50% is passable but you should still whine on the devs forums. 75% is starting be really good stuff and above 75% is just cake.

Spoiler:
I hope you didn't take that too seriously

Also if you liked metro 2033 I can recommend Stalker series (I've only played call of pripiat) which are basically like open world metro 2033

Unfortunately XCOM sale is pretty lame. Only 33% and absolutely no discount on Slingshot. Well, seems I have to wait a bit longer to finally get the DLC.

And I second the Necroshea with the Humble Bundle

I will admit that I made a bit of a silly purchase, bought the original DarkSiders for a fiver, but could have got the whole shebang (number 2 and what looked like some add-on weapons) for £15, but meh, I don't have much gaming time to be honest.

To be fair, didn't really have a strategy but wanted something new to play, and F2P MMOs (well, MMOs in general) just don't appeal to me...

It's not the games that annoy me (indeed, I've played a few MMOs I would like to see as single-player), it's the format and it's execution that put me off.

e.g. tried to play Super Monday Night Combat and BattleField Heroes (Free, pay for good stuff), it's pretty disheartening when you get fragged every 20 seconds because you start out so weak you basically get one-shot-killed while your weapons do literally no damage, secondly considering they are 'team games' there is as much co-operation between team-mates as your average unit of skaven clanrats.

Tried a bunch of MMORPGs (D&D online, Fallen Earth, Guild Wars 1) and found it just as lacklustre, the only people who enjoy the games seem to be those that have the time to sit and grind for an eternity and have max-uber-everything style equipment, those looking for a more casual experience end up stuck in the low-levels because nobody wants to party up for the early quests (and, again, typically the free versions are badly hamstrung).

Bought Spec Ops: The Line yesterday on a whim, I didn't however realise how silly and "Murica, feth yeah!" it would be, so there you go.

I'm considering Deadlight right now (50% off). Its new and already only £5, so I'm doubting that it'll go to 75%. =/

Again, try planetside

I run with default medic loadout, there are some things like the anti-tank rocket launcher and such that are straight upgrades, and things some vehicle weapons, , but there's little to no difference between any of the sidegrade weapons and the starting weapons, the only thing that is money-only is cosmetic upgrades and honestly i threw like 40 bucks at the game on a triple-points-for-money weekend because its that damn fun, that and on a double exp weekend you can farm-out a weapons worth of certs in a day pretty handily

FTL is up for $4.99 I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend it.

I personally picked up Towns (great fun), Magicka (kicked myself for not getting it last year), Penny Arcade Series (always looked fun), To the Moon (always watch the trailer so decided to take a dive), and Cave Story+ (bunch of buddies said it's good fun).

0.o Uh, there's a level in that game where you hold onto the ladder of a water tanker one handed as you fire a grenade launcher with the other...

Another has you shooting a bunch of US soldiers because you presume them to be the enemy, only to find out that it was a refugee camp. Your character mourns for a minute before going all "Murica!" again. (Did I mention that its obvious that your targets were regugees and the game forces you to shoot anyway?)

=P Still don't know why only a rogue US army unit was sent to Dubai (immediately after a long campaign...) instead of say the UN? Why the scout force is only three men without any supplies or where all the Ak's are coming from... Plus, the Americans have helicopters, but stay behind because they want to have their own little empire. The melt down silverware for bullets when the streets are full of cars, and seem to have forgotten the greater part of they're tactical training.

Picked up L.A. Noire for $4.95, this game looks sweet, as I've become a big fan of these cinematic type games.

I'm still just wishing the price on xcom would drop. Looks like a sweet game, but not for that price. I guess I'm spoiled by all these super-cheap deals.

Love all the xcom games, especially TFTD, and I really want the new one.

I've been intrigued by FTL, but I'm still not convinced. I've heard it is very difficult.

Grimrock pisses me off. First few levels are fun, you drop in, fight some monsters, look for hidden stone switches in the wall, and avoid pits. Then you get to a level that contains almost nothing but spiders that poison you on just about every hit.

I've never enjoyed games that use poison as large means to make the game challenging.

I loved Grimrock from the get go (maybe its just its great theme tune). The spider level really was the worst level though. It just wound up with me running back behind a gate every time a horde of the things appeared, ducking out with a few hits, then closing the thing again. After that it gets better, but I would say that there are a few more annoying bits after that.

I managed to get around to buying FTL yesterday. I didn't notice how many hours I'd put in till I looked at the clock. Unlocking ships is a bit of a bother, and I'd wish that you could just buy the things with scrap or something instead of having to search out random quests that aren't guaranteed to appear in a playthrough. Its a fun game, but I so find it annoying that there's certain encounters that apparently are unwinnable, and potentially unescapable. For instance, in one of the later sectors I came across an asteroid field that wiped me from full health to none in a minute or so. The enemy ship would have been difficult enough to beat, but that was just silly, but I guess it fits the theme of the game. (This was with a full upgraded shield...). COD generation players won't enjoy it because the effort that it requires to do anything, but its good if you want a challenge.

Opening all the airlocks and having your crew cowering in the medi-bay or cupboard as the alien boarding parties choke to death clawing at the door is endless fun btw...

Eh unlocking the ships by random happenstance is half the fun to me Focus on winning the achievements to unlock the alternate designs and you'll happen upon ships as you do so.

If you think suffocating enemies is fun like that, then wait till you start killing enemy ships by Ion blasting their O2 over and over till everyone onboard dies lol.

It is only thta level that has annoying spiders and there is a secret that pratically gives you poison immunity.

^^ Yeah, but the level's impossible to play without that item or grinding behind a gate. Even with poison immunity there's still so many of the things that it slows the pace of the game down a bit (though I was playing with an all human group, two warriors, a rogue and a wizard).

Youknow I've never been able to choke an enemy crew to death in FTL. Maybe its because I don't use Ion cannons much to knock out their weapons. The same goes with never having burned a crew to death either. Hmn, a cruel universe for a game with such simple graphics. (Never heard of Pecard buring an enemy to death as killy death drones stalk the corridors...). XD

Combat in Grimrock is all about dodging, in a 1 on 1 fight you shouldn't ever be hit. Most of the time you can lure individual spiders into a good location and kill them off one at a time, don't you have access to antidotes by that stage anyway?. If you stay still in Grimrock you will die.

Choking enemies in FTL isn't very efficent as it take a long time and life support will keep getting repaired. Personally I just use boarding parties to slaughter the entire crew although using a firebeam to set fire to the entire ship also works quite well

Once you know how the game works FTL becomes relatively 'easy' but it is still heavily dependent upon random events and the limited time available really limits your capactiy to explore.
