Just came upon a new Kickstarter project that I thought folks here might find nifty-keen: Wargame, Roleplaying and Model Railroad Terrain by Richard P. Chalone (calls himself Adventure Terrain).
I found it on The Miniatures Page while tooling around looking for other stuff, and it was pretty much exactly what I've been planning on doing for years... But haven't gotten around to it. Making a magnetized forest so I can pull of the trees to pile in my armies nice and easily. So I'm in for $50.
Check it out:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/adventureterrain/wargame-roleplaying-and-model-railroad-terrain
PS I have no affiliation with the guy, just thought it was a nifty idea.

Very nice - I'll be looking into this a bit more closely later tonight when I have the time, but it looks like a good way to help fill up a WWII and/or Old West Table, never mind a Fantasy Battle one!

I don't know. Seems like he's getting himself in deep. Everything's going to be painted before it's sent?
That, combined with his lack of establishment within KS (no projects prior, none backed, and only on KS for 4 months), I think I'll pass.

The pre-painted aspect puzzles me - a lot of work for them to organise (especially re quality control), and no value for the serious terrain fanatic customers who will immediately repaint them.
The basic concept I really like though...

Yea, I was puzzled too about his choice of prepainting. I wonder how many of his potential customers are train folks - I'd guess this is much more suited for wargaming/RPG stuff. HO scale is kinda-sorta close to 15mm, I think...?

As someone new to miniature wargaming (picked up Malifaux a year ago), I like the idea of them being pre-painted, as I'm sure even a quick job by a skilled painter will still produce results beyond those I'd do myself.
I could definitely get in on this one to expand my group's terrain options, but at least in part it depends on whether or not Canada is considered "overseas", as that extra $20 S&H is quite a bump to the middle tiers.
Also it drives me a little batty to be next door to the US and get charged the same S&H as Australia.

The levels are confusing to me- how do you gets trees and walls? The higher levels are just trees, right?
I'll keep an eye out once they're in his store.

Seems like there is not a level for just walls. I think the walls use the same base as the hedgerows/straight tree section. So it seems like you would have to pledge for the hedge section and then pledge the additional smaller amount for the wall inserts.

I asked this same question - pledge for the total amount that will equal all you want, and he'll sort it out at the end.
Just pick a pledge level that covers one of the things you're after, and you should be good to go.
He's going to add in some of the more requested items as options as well...

This looks really interesting, especially the future ideas with the barbed-wire, tank traps, trench systems and the other defence emplacement stuff. Might have to wait until after the kickstarter and look into it again. Pity about the $20 charge outside of the US.

Wish I could justify hitting the $100 tier, but my group already has a fair deal of terrain at our usual spot, so I think I'll just hit the small forest and some extras (bunch of rocks, multi rocks and blanks to mix up the layout).

Cool to see this going well; I see Richard regularly at my local store (where his Historicals crew usually games), and it looks like a good project. If I had more cash on hand I'd be in for some trees in a heartbeat.

He's been doing terrain for some years now, though. IIRC he was one of (if not the) first folks to make and sell wreck markers for Warmachine, back in the day.

Sorry for the 7 month necromanctic bump, but has anyone received their terrain yet?
The target was February, but there were delays. It's now August, and while he has made comments and updates to the effect of work being ongoing, very few people have commented on getting anything, and he has repeatedly ignored questions of how far along he is.
While it's a one man job and casting, painting and shipping out 177 orders can't be easy, surely there must be some progress worth mentioning.
Some backers are starting to get antsy or giving up, and at this point I'm sincerely glad I didn't go any higher or convince friends to get in on it. I'm already regretting locking $75 in on this ($45 for the small forest, some S&H and some extra for rocks/blanks to add some variety).
To say he seems to have bitten off more than he can chew would be an understatement.

I've seen the update, there have been a few (more since it was pointed out to him that Comments don't function as Updates), but more to the point there have been very few results so far, and I was hoping it was simply a matter of some people getting their stuff and not commenting.

I'm a backer (and the OP) and I got mine a few weeks ago. I had only ordered a small forest, and I sent him an email to ask what's up about a month ago. He said he'd be able to get my order in the mail right away, so sending him a message might help?

I'm glad to hear you got yours in!
While I too ordered a small forest, I included extra cash for blanks and rocks. Someone mentioned in the comments that they'd heard the rocks were proving problematic, so they might be the holdup.
It'd be nice if we at least had an idea how far into the project he is, which has been asked a few times and never answered. Like, 10%? 25%? 50%? Etc. Based on orders to send out and/or trees/rocks left for production. Even a vague idea of how much longer this'll hopefully take.
I get not wanting to paint ones self into a corner that might be unrealistic, but at 6 months overdue, a little optimism and signs of forward progress (beyond the explanations and setbacks we keep hearing about) would be awesome.
Edit: that said, I'd assumed the package order would be based on order of backing and feasibility of sending materials. If all it takes to linejump is an email, I might have to get on that.

I'm in for just a small forest, but nothing yet.
I believe my order was held up because I also snagged blanks, rock and multi-rock inserts.
But people in the comments have been talking about getting theirs, and even posting some pics. They look good, and the quality seems to have allayed some of the growing ire over the massive delays this project had.
What's funny to me is that it's now a race between this (which ended in January) and Dwarven Forge (which ended in May) as to which will deliver first.
My money is on DF at this point.

Since I'm having an associate in the US FedEx my package to me (which will cost $50 instead of $100), it might not get to me until the end of Oct, possibly early Nov. Whereas I've been waiting on this terrain since February. Hence the silliness of the race. Sure, sure, one man versus a small company, hand crafted and painted versus produced in bulk by a factory in China, it's certainly not a perfect apples to apples comparison. Just something I find amusing.
