was just looking over the Dark eldar codex and wondered what people thought about this

Lady malys 130

6 x kabalite trueborn, 4 x blasters, 2 x dark lance 182

aegis defence line, quad gun 100

what do people think about having this behind a aegis the quad gun would be manned by malys i know it is a bit expensive but would destroy literally anything. thoughts????

it would be destroyed by literally anything. It is T3 with a 4+ cover save, regular marines are far more survivable. A few bolter shots will kill half the unit. Noise Marines or a TFC would kill the entire unit.

It isnt even that killy, the 4 blasters are expensive 18" range weapons struggling with the emplaced DL and QG.

Why are you taking Malys? If you wanted an uber defensive unit, add the baron, he is cheaper, has the 2++ and give the unit stealth, hit and run and defensive grenades

im not taking it, i was just trying to make a devastator style unit anti flyer aswell, baron is better, but i wouldnt really want to leave jump infantry behind an aegis defence line, any ideas for a devastator style unit, behind the aegis with a high ballistic skill on the quad gun?

didnt realize an archon is base bs7 not had the codex long, that will do with a unit of kabalite trueborn would be cheaper.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
what about if i took this,

archon, shadow field, venom blade 95 (x1)

3 x kabalite trueborn, 2 x dark lance 86 (x3)

Aegis - quad gun 100 (x1)

453.

TBH i think this is way too expensive for what it does, but it was just a fun idea i came up with, it would fire 6, 36 inch dark lances a turn, and the four twin linked S7 quad gun shots is not bad.

why do you care how high the BS is on the quad gun? Being twin linked you get to reroll misses. BS 4 Hits 89% of the time. BS5 hits 97% of the time. Any more than BS5 is a waste, as you are already rerolling. Why invest 100 points getting it up to BS5 when that is only going to net you .3 hits? You could take a ravager for that and get 2 additional hits per turn. Much better use of points.

For DE the best guys to man a quad gun are wracks, as they are tough to shoot down with T4 and FNP. BS 4 is good enough. Give them a flamer and they are protected from assault as well to some degree. Cheap and effective.

I'm personally a huge fan of splinter cannons, they are pretty beastly but I also go against orks fairly often. definatly archon and if he is just sitting on qg then why venomblade?

You only bring Malys for the immune to psychic powers ability, her combat punch isn't great and her deployment power is rarely going to help you out again decent players. Really the only way to run her is with a big Deathstar (usually Grotesques, but you can swap her to Beasts early before having her leave so they can chase things).

The thing is that with allies her abilities lose quite a bit of their shine, as DE can basically only ally with Eldar (they can't ally with anyone to get more durable scoring units, which is what they need the most) so you might as well add in a bare bones Warding Seer to almost every army, and that does a much better job stopping psychic powers across the entire board (and stops buffs, which are the most powerful powers).

dont you get to re-roll to hit misses on the re-rolls from twin-linked so roll a 1, re-roll cuz twin linked, 1 again re-roll cuz of BS7 or do you only ever get one re-roll?

you can only ever reroll a dice once. so twinlinked BS 5 is as good as it gets

Best character I have ever seen behind an aegis is Maugan Rha with the Icarus he gets two F'ing shots out of the thing and is BS7. If its light armor he uses his 5 shot s6 rending maugetor lol. Him alone is better then that unit.

which is the one with Fast Shot, that would probably be the best. If you want to get the most out of your emplaced lascannon. Still it would be better to take additional weapons rather than trying to get more out of the artillery.

Yea but he also has many other perks mind you. He makes a unit of warriors fearless and has a 2+ save and eternal warrior for tanking shots.

You also nab Malys for her redeploy ability... If I'm fielding foot Deldar with 3x Talo (Taloi?), repositioning units is awfully useful.

Eldrad gives you the same redeploy, better psykic defense. a 3++ save instead of a 4++ and SOOO much more.

Yea lol basically. If your primary detachment is DE then using eldar you almost always want a farseer or eldrad preferably. Though I am aching to model a dark avatar.

is redeploying actually that good?

on eldrad it is great, as he is already an awesome character
on malys you have to wonder. she isnt really good at anything to begin with except putting out a ton of Str3 AP3 attacks.
