After The Hobbit, I doubt Peter Jackson and friends will give up on Middle Earth. What do you think the next one could be?

I think it'd be cool to see Akallabeth to the Last Alliance done in movie form.

Ungoliant is in the Silmilrilian. The Hobbit will deal with the Fall of the Necromancer(Sauron)

I agree, though all I really want to see are Middle Earth fight scenes. They could skimp on the story as much as they want if they just keep producing those.

Arnor and the Witch King of Angmar would be a pretty cool story arc if they wanted to do another trilogy, though I bet they would do The Children of Hurin before they did that though.

The only story they could possibly do is balins expedition to retake Moria, as it counts as Hobbit and Lord of the Rings based.

Everything else would require the cooperation of the Tolkien estate rather than the Saul Zaentz company.

Who doesn't want to see a fantasy horror movie of the Dwarves of Moria fighting (a fight we know to be hopeless) war against the Balrog

I would prefer a Warhammer movie about Sigmar or Nagash. The Silmilrilian is a collection of short stories if I recall correctly and it does not have enough substance for a movie. If it has to be another LOTR movie, it could be about the First Goblin Wars. Even a prequel about the war against Sauron would do but not the Silmilrilian/// Also, I heard the they are incorparting some of the stories of the Silmilrilian into the Hobbit anyway.

The next time you'll see Middle Earth setting is when the Lord of the Rings is Remade in 50 years. Hopefully by then genetic engineering will give us actual hobbits.

I'd say that the issue with the Silmarillion is that it has too much substance, not too little.

I think a lot of the charm with the Hobbit comes from seeing the same characters again and it ties into the mythos of the other films, with Gollum and the ring, we get to see the Shire and Bilbo and members of the White Council get small parts. Having Ian McKellen return as Gandalf is a big point for the Hobbit to tie into LotR. Had they needed to recast, the film would probably suffer for it. The problem with other Middle Earth films is that they'd be a lot more distant and have few ties to the films already made, as well as being less iconic original material, you can't say that the Silmarillion is as well known as the Hobbit or Lord of the Rings .

Anything but the Silmarillion - proably the most boring book I've ever had the misfortune of reading.

Young Aragon would be good - his adventures in Rohan, Arnor, and defeating the corsairs would be ace.

Yes!
If adopted properly this could be the best Adventure/Horror crossover ever. The fate of Balin and the other two dwarves from the Hobbit who accompanied him into the Darrowdelf would have a built-in audience if it is done in a timely manner.

The Silmarillion is still owned by the Tolkien estate so it's highly doubtful that any movie will be made from that book.
