GW didn't ACTUALLY ruin my models, it was more the lack of diversity in their washes. Take for isntance Baal red... don't have one for that anyomore.... and it was my own fault in the end anyway, I know....

Well, I made some purchases of GW's new washes, and I still had some old ones kicking around. Between the two I managed to make my current project just barely turn out, but I am dissapointed with the utter lack of color depth in the new range of GW washes. As such, I'm looking for suggestions of who to give my money to now? P3 has some inks, I', assuming reaper has some washes, but not sure what those are or how to look them up.... anyone got anything else?

I do agree that the new shades are definitely not the washes they replaced. However, I've found that with a magic ink using the shades as pigments they can work quite well. Especially using agrax earthshade followed by seraphim sepia.

The previous washes were not that great, but at least they had a better color selection. Sure. Yellow now has a wash, but none of the other colors have washes..... Tried stopping by the FLGS today, but they was closed time I showed up. Will try gain wednesday

Are you making an ellipses or a full stop?

'.' or '...', '..' has no meaning.

Also, I find that the new Sepia is rather... shiny. I don't understand why. It doesn't make anything look better.

i dont understand what your complaint is.

i was thinking of buying a bunch of the new washes since my once huge stock of the old baal red, devlan and badab is starting to run out.

so far iv only tried the casandra yellow wash and im very happy with it.

are the other ones not good?

I tried painting two khador warjacks using only washes. The new line GW washes is utterly and completely inadequate. Baal red (old) was purplish. putting down one or two layers of reiksland flesh (new), and then a layer of baal red gets the right tone of red...... the problem? There is no bloody RED wash in the current GW line of washes. There simply isn't. It's tones of ochre and sepia and purple. GW does not carry any RED wash... The hole in their last line of washes was yellow. They filled that hole, and now their hole is red (well.. they have more holes, but red is what i need right now...). Having suffered through the second change in product line, and still having gaps... I've lost my nerve. I want to have consistency in my painting, I don't want to have to "deal" each time. I know there are companies that care just a tiny bit more about their clients than GW does, and I wanted to know what those companies were. I mean, even Privateer press' paints.... The washes are very limited in color range, but they are much better defined across the spectrum, rather than GW, which dedicated 3-4 colors to different shades of brown. I'm not miffed about the loss of Devlan mud like everyone else was, that color can be achieved with the right mix of the current washes. What the current washes don't do, is red.

so whats wrong with Carroburg Crimson ? youre saying it isnt "bright red" enough for you?

it's designed to shade red. A bright blood red wash wouldnt "shade" red at all, it would end up giving you bright red in the recesses which would actually piss alot of people off, myself included.

for what youre doing you could mix a brighter red into carroburg crimson. put some mephiston or blood red into it. Or try the blood letter glaze.

about those p3 inks, do they work well? Do you use them like a wash and brush em on there or drip them using the squirt bottle?

I just mix about a ml of medium into my washes. It works a charm to make them go further and to make them give a better colour.

The GW lahamian medium works.
