A tankhammer could be awesome fun if you hold it horizontally and wade into a swarm of gaunts. For added fun, attach rotating power axe heads to the head of the hammer like a buzzsaw.

Feth Initiative 1, I'll be chopping things till I puke.

Edit: It seems I misunderstood the tankhammer. I assumed the rocket would be activated instead of just being used to hit things.

Suppose we modified one for continuous thrust, but not to detonate on impact with "soft" things, like flesh and clothing.

So basically, a rocket-propelled power buzzsaw on a stick.

I find Space Marine Chapter Masters with thunderhammers immensely satisfying. It's a whole lot of smashy, smashy, smashy.

For everything else, the plain old power sword. the GK two-handers look good to on certain units (such as my Honour Guard), but by and large I feel power swords look the best, and perform quite well in most situations.

But then I'm not a big assault player, so I could be totally wrong on that. Guard and Vanilla Marines aren't exactly assault-centric armies. Hell, my Armoured Company often operates with all of 0 infantry.

Therefore, I conclude, Valve should announce Half Life 2: Episode 3.

Eviscerator. Everything else is stupid by comparison.

Yeah, that's right, land raider, I just cut you in half with a ten foot long chainsaw sword.

Suck it.

Just curious... Is the 10 feet length of the eviscerator an IG priest thing?

Because the Repentia ones are like bulkier, slightly longer chainswords. As is the one displayed in the rulebook in the melee weapons thing, right next to... I think it's the Thunder Hammer.

Or are the Repentia ones understated for model size, model weight balance - some of them hold their eviscerators horizontally - and other gameplay reasons, and the rulebook image took the look from them?

Yeah, the guardsmen one are longer.

In any case, you just ripped a tank in half with a chainsaw. Everyone else's arguments are invalid.

Bonesword.

Got to love flat out ignoring armour.

Plus the only model you'd consider assaulting a vehicle with that uses Boneswords, the Hive Tyrant, has AP2.

Thunderhammer. I've always been a big fan of weapons so big that a shield would really not help you that much if you actually tried to block it.

Even if the shield holds - like a Storm Shield might - bones are gonna break with that much kinetic energy or whatever.

Indeed. I'd like to think of it as an evolution of preference. When I was a wee lad I thought 2 handed swords where the best thing since sliced bread, but after awhile I grew to appreciate axes and hammers. There's just something warm and fuzzy about swinging something that will do damage regardless of what it touches.

I've been drawn to power mauls myself, but mostly for in-game stats reasons. I do wonder if it's a little... iffy, in a list tailoring kind of way, to take them over power swords when I know that I won't be facing anything with a 3+ save because my opponent only fields Orks these days.

I can easily rationalize it by saying that it's more useful than a power sword for basically everything but Space Marines of all flavors and Sisters, and even then a maul is better than a sword against Terminators. And from a fluff-mixed-with-gamplay perspective, my Sisters are more likely to come up against Orks, Imperial Guard, and other non-power armored things, so logically they'd eventually start to choose weapons that are superior for dealing with weakly-armored, numerous opposition.

But I know that's all just a rationalized justification for taking them because of how good they are at wrecking Orks in melee compared to power swords.

I still like the GK two-handers and halberds, though. I've started using the two-handed swords as relic blades - same with the SW two-handed axes - and the glaives as power spears for my bike jouster sergeant and commander - the normal bikers are gonna get Bretonnian Knights of the Realm lances... if my local GW ever carries more Bretonnian stuff. Otherwise I might just go with the more readily available Empire Knightly Orders' lances or whatever.

Think about it this way. If you want to model them, but don't mind using different stats, then it's all good. If you model them and demand to use their stats against your greenskin friend, you are a bad person, lol

Yup, that cleared it up really quick.

Main reason I'd go hunting for power maul bitz is to get that juicy strength bonus and decent AP. If it didn't make a difference in the game, I wouldn't bother, I'd just use whatever was on hand that worked well with the model - like for certain minis of a friend's RP character, I always give him a power sword of some variety, because he loves swords.

Eldar Diresword. A power sword with the spirit of a dead warrior inhabiting it that destroys your mind if you get so much as a scratch from it is easily the coolest weapon out there. Too bad it belongs to a unit that's not good in close combat.

Diresword. If only an autarch could use one. Ignores armor and "Remove from game". Not ID even. Yes, they have to fail a ld check which i hope is changed around in the new codex (penalty on ld check maybe?) but even so, removing Mordrak on a lucky roll was hilarious when he charged my DA squad.

Being eldar i like the power lance and power maul more than most players. S4 power axes are very meh when you lose the init.
