So ive heard about the Dusk raiders legion that was later Named the much more well known Death Guard legion i just want to get as much info as i can on the Dusk Raiders before they became the Death Guard.

Maybe you could elaborate on the kind of information you're looking for. I doubt a lot of people will be tempted to just start telling you every scrap of information about the dusk raiders they know

The Forge World Horus Heresy book Betrayal has additional info that may not have been added to Lexicanum yet, I'm not sure about that though.

They were some of the most BA terrans from a couple of fueding techno barbarian tribes i believe. They were pretty stalwart but not quite as dismal as the later Death Guard recuited from Mortarions homeworld. The HH book The Betrayal talks about them quite a bit. if you can get your hands on a copy its worth it.

Totally forgot, sorry! I actually did sit down with book but got distracted reasing about the Sons of Horus. I'll get back to the Dusk Raiders soon.

Before the finding of Mortarion, the Dusk Raiders were

- heavy infantry
- experts at survival and endurance
- known as relentless and disciplined
- good at close ranged firefights

They were raised from the Albians, who resisted the Emperor's efforts to conquer them until the Emperor came to them unarmed and persuaded them to join him. Their name comes from their Albian tactic of launching ground attacks at nightfall.

Heard That Before any other info in the book?

Not really. Most of that section is devoted to the story of Mortarion. When he is united with his Legion, it talks about how they changed their attitude toward armor and how he devoted them to making sure humanity would not live in fear.

As far as combat roles, you should remember that Legions are not Chapters. The Legions were huge and each of them could do just about anything. They did not need to specialize.

Well First i wanted to start a army that could date back to the heresy or prior and i like to do things people haven't done before so that was one reason and the other is that my favorite character from the heresy era is Nathaniel Garro who was a part of the dusk raiders and then the death guard and also one of the founding members of the grey knights so i wanted to make a force that he could lead.

It seems the Dusk Raiders became the Death Guard without exception. No formation retained the name Dusk Raiders after the reunion of the Emperor and Mortarion. Garro did not found a new legion or chapter of Space Marines ... unless it might be the Grey Knights. If you want to give your own army this kind of background, published sources will be no help to you.

I didn't mean that he was a dusk raider at the time of the heresy i just said that he was a member of the dusk raiders before they became the death guard and form my information he was one of the 5 astartes that founded the grey knights. But that you for your help.
