I know there are a trillion of these threads out there already but I have to say it, my 40k days are done. I love Power Armour, always have. Now with the new release of: DV, CSM, and now the advance order for DA; I'm drooling. Only problem is I can't afford it. Have you seen some of the prices on the Advance Orders? Some of the coolest looking models, ever. Bikes galor (which are my favorite models by the way) and there is no way that I can afford it, not in one million years.

What do you guys think? Do the prices on these new releases seem to push you away from GW and towards other systems? I know I'm starting FOW which is cheaper than GW, and I get a 30% discount from them!

You're starting a new game, so don't say that you can't afford GW prices. You might not want to pay that much, or feel that GW's prices are now too high for what you get, but there's a huge difference between that and genuinely not being able to afford something at all.

Would it not cost more to start a new game that to get a few more models from GW?

Just an FYI, FoW is only cheaper than GW if you go with only Tanks and stay small. Terrain is also a PITA to make, the game really is dependent on accuratly scaled terrain. And you will get suckered into getting more armies. So in the end its no cheaper to go with one game system over the other. Just pick your gaming addiction and accept that its expensive

You can still get models cheaper. Many online discounters have as much as 20-30% off of retail for new GW releases. You can save a bundle if you know where to look. Don't buy direct from GW.

Wait... People still buy direct from gw??

Why not just wait until the models you want have been out for a bit and score them on ebay for at least 20% off?

Maybe I should have mentioned a little more about where I'm coming from.
1) Can I technically afford it? Yes. I could dish out $80 for one Plastic Flyer. Will I? No.
2) As far as FOW goes, the only thing I have purchased is the Open Fire Box Set, which I split with my brother costing me a whopping total of $35, and includes over half of a required army. The rest I've acquired through trades where I got rid of my 40k.
3) I buy direct from GW only because I get it at cost. I pay what your local FLGS pays.

So like I said I technically could drop that Kind of money, but I just won't. I think that it's a little absurd how much these things cost as opposed to just a year ago when I started.

So why are you talking about $80 flyers if you aren't paying $80 for your flyers? Are you so offended by the principle of charging $80 retail for a model that you have to refuse to pay the much lower price as a protest? If so, why not just admit that this is just another "GW costs too much" rant with no substance to it.

If you are getting it for what retailers pay why are you complaining?

You do realize that you can get the Ravenwing Bikes from the DV set very cheap from Ebay right? At one point I saw them selling for £5 for three Bikes.

EDIT: And if like me, you sell your miniatures to pay for new ones, their value increases as GW increases theirs. So some Khorne Berzerkers I paid £10 for many years ago are now worth £20+. An extreme example perhaps, but it does happen a lot (albeit on a smaller scale).

Warhammer is expensive, we all know. If you want a cheaper option just play DoW. Not trying to be mean but it won't get cheaper

I love GW, I do, But the Gameplay is going down, The people playing the game are getting younger and younger making for less fun games and now the Prices are going up like crazy.
Yes, of course I'm ranting, because I need my plastic crack but don't want to sell my kidney to get it. I haven't bought any new models since around August because my life got hectic but now that I want to get back into it, I cant seem to talk myself into it, just because the new army I want to start is so freakin expensive.

All of my FOW terrain can be made at home, as could the 40K terrain although I don't possess the skill set to do that.

Why doesn't GW find a price level that isn't so expensive yet still brings in a decent profit and then stick to it for a while? The prices have escalated multiple times in just the last couple of months, faster than inflation. I doubt that the cost of making the models got that much more expensive.

In reply to @Peregrine--- Yes, pretty much. I get it cheaper than most people and it's becoming so expensive that I can't afford it, I can't imagine how other long-term players feel. People who have been with it since the beginning. I mention the $80 Pricetag because it's ridiculous that they charge that much for one model that, had it been released last February, would have topped out at $60. The price of Books have skyrocketed as well, and they are REQUIRED to play.

Play FoW, much better. I just hope you can find a stable player base(the first game I played wasn't in the state)

Quote from chromedog
and 40k was like McDonalds - you could get it anywhere - it wouldn't necessarily satisfy, but it was probably better than nothing.

Maybe they are not getting younger, and instead you are getting older, ever thought of that?

Mind Blown.

If you want to quit do so.

I have pretty much all the models I will need to play 40K for a good long time, as models usually do not melt or spontaneously combust.

If anything find deals on E-Bay. With E-bay you can pick two of these three things. Cheap, Fast, Good

If you get models Cheap and Fast they will not be Good.

If you get models Good and Cheap the process will not be Fast.

If you get models Good and Fast they will not be Cheap.

Lol... an american that pays cost, complaining about prices. Have you seen Australian prices? Double your store selling price, and on average, you have what we have to pay.

You have nothing to complain about...

Flames of War isn't really cheaper, at least if you're buying from Battlefront. Their stuff is insanely expensive compared to other 15mm manufacturers of similar quality.

If you have the old toys, no reason to stop playing the game. A new codex doesn't make your models invalid generally, and it's not like the models are going to get stale and moldy if they're a couple years old. Just play with what you've got, and if a good deal comes up, grab it.
