The grouping setup works for any number of weapons, as long as you remember you have to start over if you roll an unassigned result.

If you have seven weapons, you have group A of 4 and group B of 3. Randomly choose A or B. Roll a dice for within that group. If you roll an unassigned number, for example a 5 in group A or a 4 in group B, you start over from scratch randomising between A and B. They don't even have to be groups of remotely even size, just so long as you remember to start over from selecting a group if you roll something that isn't allocated to an option.

It's a pain, but there's no simpler fair way to do it unless you have access to a dice with equal to or greater than the number of things you're trying to randomise.

You can change the 8 to make it give any other random-number.

Most of the time I just use an app.
People might complain it 'could' be rigged, but that's just nonsense -_-'
I'm not asking them to use my dice since theirs could be rigged? And it's easier to get a "fixed" dice than an app.

Use a D8 and re-roll 8s.
Or a D10 and re-roll 8, 9 and 10.
Or a D12 and re-roll...
Etc.

How many vehicles have more than 20 weapon systems?

if you have a smart phone, just downlaod a random number generator. It take sa few more seconds to set up but it will work for any amount of things to randomise.

Fine in your own home, but no TO will allow a phone (or tablet, laptop etc) based random number generator, they're way too easy to fix.

polyhedral dice are the way to go. They are just good to have with you in general (make great wound counters because you never mistake them for rolled dice, or counters for anything else.)

If you bring a D4, D8, D10, D12, D20,Percentile dice you should be all set for any reasonable randomization.

Lets look at # of weapons

1 = no randomization
2= dived the number of sides by 2 on any dice, and roll
3=works on a D6 or any dice with sides that are multiples of 3 (D12 for instance)
4= Roll the D4 (or D8, D12, D20)
5=D10 every 2 numbers (1-2,3-4, etc.) or D20 every 4)
6=Duh
7= Roll D20 if you roll a 20 roll the D8, (1-4, 5-8, 9-12,13-16,17-20, 21-24, 25-28) only gets a little iffy at 20.
8=D8
9=D10 + D8
10=D10.

In general vehicles don't even have numbers of weapons numbering this high.

make 8 cards for the Storm Raven. (1 MM, 1 AC, 2 Hur, 4 Mis).

Shuffle the deck of cards (just index cards will work) and pick one out and loose that weapon.

That's why I always have a full set of dice. That problem is easily solved with a d4, d8, d10, d12, and d20.

If there are more than 20 weapons.... then it's probably irrelevant.

Of course, rolling a eight-sider and just re-rolling 8s is the easiest way to go. Every game store has d4, d6, d8, d10, d12 and d20s for sale. Many of them also have d3, d5, d7, and d30s.

Didn't someone mathematically prove that those 7-sided dice aren't equal at rolling? It has something to do with the fact that 2 of the faces are essentially hexes, while the other 5 are squares.
