Just 17,000? The rifle in the video was a Surgeon Remedy in an AX chassis which the company offered at a black Friday VIP price of 19,995.

Not any particularly more crazy than the host of other $20,000 weapons. With a $5,000 rifle and $15,000 to train with you could make Stevie Wonder a sniper.

I don't care how sane a buyer claims to be, no one is buying this for hunting deer. It seems like a typical electronics show piece of crap you don't need.

They're also not buying it to commit a massacre.

I might if the Ferrari was wholly designed solely for running over people and close people-analogues.

You can thank me later.

So $17,000 for a increased sense of machismo?

People spend more than that on ego.

Evidently you've been blind your whole life to people buying things they don't need for ego. You've never noticed Mercedes, BMW, Harley Davidson, IPADs, Rolex, Seiko, or Starbucks have you...

I was unaware that my Seiko was considered pretentious, I should take it back to Macy's today.

I'd think an increased sense of machismo would come from making the shot without having the optic do all the work for you.

I know, for example, a good day at the range can take me from clean-shaven to fully-bearded in a matter of seconds.

So, what does he do without the rifle? Stare you down to death?

Oh wait, you mean it doesn't matter what type of high-powered rifle he has. Gotcha.

No you're right.
The rifle is just a mounting base for the scope. Through the scope he STARES YOU DOWN TO DEATH! muahahahah

Actually the modern sniper's primary weapon is his eyes and radio. So he'd designate aforementioned target with a laser and let some fast movers donate a couple hundred pounds high explosives. In the Corps (origin of the modern sniper) the job is literally Scout Sniper. The two are one and the same and are used by commands as such.

It's such a difficult job because it requires the following:
A. The ability to move undetected in all terrain and survive without support in any conditions for an extended period of time
B. A near photographic or photographic memory
C. Better then perfect vision to the point you're making eagles jealous
D. Optimally your brain should be replaced with a ballistics computer.

There's some more there, but none of those skills are married to ANY weapon of any kind. A man so developed would be lethal with a .22 rifle in his hands if he needed to be. Or nothing at all.

It's also worth noting except for the famous Barrett M82 Anti Material Rifle, all American sniper and designated marksman weapons are chambered in .308/7.62x51mm which is probably one of the most popular hunting rounds period, and not particularly high powered (in my mind) compared to other offerings both within sniper weapons systems and hunting rounds.

ok, so if we build a turret that has this sight and you just sit at your computer and manually select targets, i think that'd be so illegal but also incredibly cool. also it would help robot take over the world so y'know... that'd also be bad.

Well, in that case, I think it's simply people not being aware that

I guess I'm one of the oddities. But provided with plans I could actually convert a firearm into full auto in my garage.

This scope is pretty cool, but I wonder what it's refresh rate on the marker is. Because as it stands it looks actually impossible to hit a moving target due to pull inflation.
