Agreed, £70.00 for seven models, £104.50 for seventeen are just plain awful. The others are no better, but I wouldn't be surprised of people thought there was a discount.

I actually think the scout bundle is more expensive than you can buy it for retail?

The best bundle imo? Heroes of Rynn's World, just based on the models included, but you're right. No price cuts, 201 dollars is a lot to swallow, as well as 75 bucks for a drop pod and a tac squad. Space Wolves Battleforce is a better buy, Taking the price of the Drop pod and tac squad bundle, and you're left with a tac squad and a scout squad. Space Wolves tac squad box is 37.25, and the scout squad is 25 bucks. So that means you've got a savings of 26.75 for 35.5 more dollars.

I don't get what they're trying to accomplish with bundles. Save people energy by having to scroll and click more then once? How generous of them...

It only shows off how dumb their prices are. $178 for 3 Dreadnoughts? Lol k.

GW expects their customers to be drooling idiots, who will assume the price is cheaper than buying the models individually. Sadly, there are people who will believe this to be cheaper and will buy it.

The boxed bundle deals they just had in December flew off the shelves because they had great built-in discounts on them over buying the component kits separately. I can't imagine these current bundles doing that well since there's no savings incentive to buy all that stuff at once.

I saw the price of the LotD bundle and decided it was too much.

It's probably more indicative of an underlying problem in that most of the Space Marine elite are finecast. How much would it cost for plastic kits of said units? I'd assume they'd retail for the same price as the newer Games-Workshop plastic kits such as Grey Knights at around $30 - $35.

Assuming $35 (for 5 marines), that'd come in at $105 for 15 LotD marines in plastic compared to the bundle price of $171.25 for $17 marines as finecast.

That's a difference of $7 per model as opposed to $10 a model. I'd wager they'd also move more units in plastic.

On the other hand, there are some good bundles out there!

For example, Wayland:

The whole Ravenwing
The whole Deathwing
The Release Bundle - Like GW's, but includes a battleforce for only £20.

Wayland are also doing free shipping until Monday too...

And in the interest of fairness:
TotalWargamer are doing a Launch Bundle identical to GW's for £135.00 + £7.99 shipping.

GW can stick their prices in places unpleasent. This is the reason why its impossible to get anyone into the game. Ive stopped buying from them entirely and only buy from people with 2nd hand models and new in box stuff. I have 4-5 friends who want to play but dont want to commit to the prices.

Thankfully there are other games around with friendlier prices vs model count requirements.

It's not stupid by any stretch, but a missed opportunity. There's something in us as consumers that makes us really like the idea of buying everything at once, or as a set of some kind. If it offered a discount, however slight, it would definitely move more product.

I think the bundles are for mom/dad/grandma when they say "I want to buy my kid ....".

I do agree that they should have somekind of discount.

While I think this hobby is NOT out of line with many others in total cost wise...I do think the cost does provide too huge of a perceived barrier to entry for new players - especially given that there is no widely published/played game at 200 points.

GW should either push the total value proposition (compared to an xbox, and how many $50 games that only get played for a week) of that you can play an army for years...and they should dramatically lower prices to increase volume and thus profit and spread the hobby....

I'm thinking that when GW raise the prices once again, they will keep the bundles the same price as they are now so then they will look like a 'good value' compared to the prices of everything else, essentially scamming unwary people.

^This. LOL i was thinking the same thing. It might not be too bad if the bundles are going to be offered to outside retailers who will be able to sell them for 20-25% off. If GW REALLY wanted to make some big bucks they would set up a shop here in Washington state and sell whatever it is they are smoking.

That's true. If they do bundles every winter and increase the prices on everything every summer, for half the year the bundles will seem like a savings. But from now until the June price hike, they look pretty dumb.

I'm not sure I understand the calls of "stupidity".

It's just a simple way to show off more product and encourage people to buy a bit more than they might otherwise.
It probably took little effort or time to set up on the website and if say 1 in every 100 hobbyists buy a bundle then that's an easy win for GW through minimal input.

Same as the 1-click bundles of new releases. Sometimes people want everything from a new release and they teeter on the edge deciding whether or not to spend- having them all showcased and available in 1 click could push them over and they'll bite.

A discount would be nice, but why do GW need to if people are going to be spending the cash anyway?

I used to work at Gamestop, and they did this as well. They would bundle things together with a system and sell it as a "Bundle" for the price that would be seperatly. Or Do a system and some accessories, put stuff in it $30 short of the price they want to sell it at (put $270 worth of stuff in a $300 BUndle), and say "$300 System Bundle, includes any used game $29.99 or less." Pople love the word "bundle" and it makes them ok with paying for things included, that they wouldn't buy seperatly. It's a weird effect, and looks like bad buisness when you see through them.

Paying £104.50 for a 'Bundle' made up of entirely Finecast minis is quite a risky investment.

Yeah it might be risky. But if you get 5 out 6 badly cast just call em up and get replacements. Then you get 11 models for *cough cough* dollars.

If you want to see a travesty go look look how much 6 "finecast" minis costs in Aus.

I also like how they give you the crappy old 3rd ed Marneus Calgar and not the spiffy 5ed one.

At least they finally admit the game only consists of Space Marines.

Regarding the Special Character bundle, it doesn't state anywhere that the models are "resin" or "finecast" or anything. Perhaps they're metal. Perhaps that's the reason they offer the old ugly Calgar.

The fact that they can't even be bothered to discount a $201 bundle down to $200 is perfectly representative of their current "anything for a buck" attitude.
