So elsewhere I expressed my difficulty painting in nice, straight lines. Someone recommend Taimya Tape. Now, can anyone here give me a second referral before I buy it? Does it work on ABS plastic? This would only be for flat surfaces, of course. Does it leave any gross residue?

I have never used Taimya Tape.

But I do know 100% that you can get really thin rolls of blue painters tape that woulds perfect and is what I always use.

I've used it several times... Perfect for models. no residue. I don't recommend leaving it on for weeks though. Just through your application. LIke any tape, you still have to ensure the edges are pressed down.

I use it a lot as well. It's an excellent product that comes in a number of widths. Here's an example.

I've never used the Tamiya brand stuff, but you can get a variety of different width tapes from 3M.

I would recommend 3/4",1/4" masking tape and 1/8" fine line tape.

I am currently taking commissions.

Yup, the Tamiya stuff is great, but as jgemrich says, be sure to remove it asap. (Same goes for any masking tape, of course.)

Aeromodellers use Tamiya tape for masking cockpits for painting. As mentioned above, it is essential to rub the edge down well to create a very close, flat seal, if you want a really sharp line.

how is the taimya better than regular 3m tape though? and does it peel up paint already on the model?

It's got a pretty low tack. I've never had it peel of paint that had properly dried before taping.

Also, KK said it was essential to rub down the edges? It's partially translucent, so you can see when it's done right. Use can use the side of a toothpick.

Just purchased some of the 6mm and going to try it out. I'll use the 3m airframes has at work for now until it arrives in a month.

I've never used Taimya Tape before but i do have a few rolls of what i believe to be generic painters tape. I've used it a couple of times with great results. No stickyness, no removal of underlying paint etc.

This video shows the idea about rubbing down the tape.

If you got the automotive tape route you can leave it stuck down for weeks and weeks without any residue - which is why I buy it (as I'm very lazy and get distracted between projects)

Me too! Its a habbit I'm trying to break though, only doing a squad at a time instead of a razorback, a DP, a SW squad, a raider, and a DE squad all at once however I feel that day.
