Is it as awesome as it seems? Hitting on twos, not allowing cover saves and having tank hunters seems incredible and then you add eternal warrior 2+ an a 4+ cover

Yeah Fuegan is a complete waste of points purely to man a Quad Gun, as are any of the Phoenix Lords really as they are all combat characters in some shape or form and the shooty ones have better weapons anyway. A Fire Dragon Exarch achieves exactly the same thing for significantly less.

However if you are buying an Aegis Line for Eldar imo the best combo to run is a Dark Reaper Exarch with Fast Shot and a Lascannon. He is BS5 so is still hitting on 2's, and a two shot Lascannon hurts the more dangerous (AV12) fliers more reliably. Most importantly both him and the squad of guys around him can still do something sitting back with the Quad Gun since they have good range to start with, unlike Dragons who sit around doing nothing.

Well,

last Friday i put Farseer with Guardians with SL and 5 Dark Reapers with Exarch with Tempest launcher behind ADL, Farseer BS 5 manned the Quad Gun and fortuned/guided the Reapers. for the first 2 turns they rocked! and Reapers soaked lot's of shots

Well, if you want an ADL, then take a FD Exarch with upgrade. He will have similar stats. On the other hand, I think the Exarch will be wasted here. Even more Fuegan. He's a beatstick and should be used in a different manner.

Also note, exarch powers are OR, not AND. You can have tank hunter or ignore cover.

Best use of a PL is the Fortress's Krackstorm launcher. 2 barrage battle cannon shots at bs7 that are also precision shot. A bit under 500 points but you also get the fortress which, despite my misgivings, shut down a Guard player last game i had with him. The BS5 TL las cannon manned by a 5 man fire dragon squad with tank hunter blew out his vendetta and the krackstorm launcher kept blowing up chimeras or his marine allies.

Your initial statement is incorrect, unless specifically indicated by the codex, such as a Dark Reaper being forbidden for using both Crack Shot and Fast Shot. I.e., a Fire Dragon Exarch may indeed utilize Tank Hunter and Ignore Cover.

I think precession shot is lost with blasts, but a double shot krakstorm isn't bad as bs7. The dark reaper plord is pretty deadly in a fort, but it's an expensive gimmick combo.

Yeah, you can get a FD Exarch for about 112 with Crack and Tank. Much more effective than a PL.

It is. You don't roll d6 to hit, so you can't roll a 6 to precision shot.

I played the FD exarch on a icarus lascannon this weekend in a tournament and it was so-so. I didn't play against any flyers so that trick was wasted. It was a guaranteed wound every turn and had the possibility of sniping out characters in a squad with a precision shot, but I don't think it was worth the points to be honest. The farseer sat with them and fortuned them, but the rest of the FD squad was wasted for most of the tournament.

Would a squad of Reapers be better on the quadgun/lascannon (assuming they have anything Deep striking) you fire quadgun on their turn and missile on your turn... Also you would put reapers on your side in cover normally anyway.

The combo is still really good against transports and light AV. S7 with no cover saves and tank hunters means whatever you fire at is going down.

4 Shots on BS 5 (hitting on 2's). 5/6 hit and reroll is 35/36 hit. Then Glance/pen on a 4+ vs AV11, so 3/4 Glance with Tank hunters. 105/144 per shot. (0.73 results per shot) Basically 2.92 hull points per turn(before rolling Pen table). And no cover.

AV 12 is 5/9 Glance/Pen so 175/324. (0.54 results per shot). So 2.16 HP per turn and still no cover.

I agree, the quad gun seems to outperform the lascannon in pretty much every way against vehicles AV12 and under. It is still almost 200 points for that. I think in the future, I would just take a ven dread or leave out the tricks and just let the non-psycannon toting dude fire the cannon.

Another thing is you can plan your army around this use, but not always deploy that way if it doesn't match up against your opponent well. You can have a transport, and if the FD squad isn't great on a defense line gun, stick them inside and zoom them to an appropriate target. Otherwise just deploy them on the gun and enjoy the Exarch shots.
