Anyone have recommendations on how to deal with this annoyance of the GK codex?

Don't play a CC heavy list?

Vindicares are pretty much as you said: an annoyance, I just ignore them and focus on killing the stuff that can actually do something.

Massed fire works really well. As does anything that ignores cover. Deep striking near it, staying out of LOS of it work too.

I play a mainly CC list, it's just the real damage I do is from IC's who are picked off in a heart beat thanks to the whole ignore invul saves from wargear.

my issue is, that I don't really have that much shooting in my list, it's mainly focused on CC, I do have a forgefiend but I usually have bigger targets to worry about. I also don't have any units to DS, or I would simply do that.

Well there's your problem. You've designed an out-of-date list which is counted by literally 1 model. Vindicares aren't that special, but when they come across lists that rely on ICs and CC, your opponent will have a field day.

If you want to be CC based and are getting countered by a <100pt model, I think it's time you re-evaluated the strength of ditching a lot of points into ICs.

That and/or put your vulnerable units in cover. The assassin only gets one shot per turn, and is easily negated by simply not giving it a good target to fire at.

I also second a 'massed volley of fire', they only have t-4, 4++/6+++ saves, and two wounds. a single tactical squad or equivelent will realistically kill it in one round of shooting.

Well it's not the IC's I count on rather it's they have the packing power needed to take out the big guns, I suppose it would be better if you got an idea of what I meant.

I've thought about tactical squads in the past, but they never work out well for me.

It's still a rather out-dated list. It's pretty much just a rhino rush that really won't work in 6th. Also with >300pts spent on HQs.

Well the HQ's can't be squashed by templates, and would be able to strive off most the 2x S insta pop, so I feel it's worth it.

Its a T4 2 wound model that likely only has a 3+ cover save. If you don't have enough shooting to kill a 2 wound marine you may need to seriously reevaluate your list. He just loves combat orientated armies where he can just snipe all the sergeants out and neuter the squad.

Note that you do get LoS against his shots so he isn't anywhere near as good at killing sergeants as he was last edition. He really only retained his anti-vehicle power.

The vindicare's primary strength is his anti-vehicle potential now, Look out Sir! pretty much took away his ability to kill characters. As has been said earlier, weight of fire is the way to go, it's just like killing 2 marines.

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

A forgefiend shooting it's 8 str 8 shots should be enough to down a vindicare. If not, apply assault cannons from obliterators.

Unfortunately, while the idea of a lone sniper being an awesome asset on the battlefield is a cool idea, its never really worked out well in the game. He's not quite reliable enough to one-shot anything important (like a sniper should...), and way too expensive to take on a whim. Yes there is a chance he can mess with your uber-expensive HQ invuln, but you can play around that. As others have said, throw bolters or enough of anything at it and he'll fail a few saves, it'll take care of the Vindicare.

I've never understood the players that invest so many points into single HQ models anyway. I've just seen way too many Mephiston/Draigo/Abbadon/etc. go down to Venom fire or Kroot or flashlights that it rarely seems worth the investment. Guys like Eldrad, Vulkan, and Coteaz I get, they help out the whole army, but not the lone CC ones.

Anyway, snipers aren't a big issue really. If you're that worried about it just allocate some turn one shooting and drop him. If you don't have any long range shooting, get some.

Sometimes, you just gotta take something cause the model is freakin cool...

Your lone CC HQ can often either make other units count as troops or bring something along that you couldn't normally get from another choice.

Sadly however putting them up front and rushing them at a gunline in a heroic charge died with the advent of 6th edition. Don't get me wrong, most of 'em still work in 6th; but you definately need to screen them with some lesser models to put them to full effect.

You can deal with snipers in game the same way you deal with snipers in real life: shoot missiles at them until they go away.
