hi guys,

is vallejo's surface primer different from it's airbrush primer? specifically, is this (SKU 73602):

the same paint as the VMA black primer (SKU 70602)? they both say acrylic-polyurethane, but it's unclear if the VMA primer is a thinned version of the surface primer or if it's the exact same stuff. if it's not the same, can the surface primer be easily thinned for airbrushing? I loathe the idea of buying primer 17ml at a time

(for reference, the name "surface primer" is what thewarstore.com calls it in their catalog. don't know if that's a standard vallejo product name or something they made up)

cheers

I believe the 602 is the relevant part of the number, so Its most likely the same stuff.
Buy both and compare. The pictured is what I use. It's good stuff.

@winterdyne: just to be clear, you're running the 73602 through an airbrush with no need for thinning?

It does not need to be thinned for airbrushing.

I use the white "surface primer" in my airbrush with NO THINNING WHATSOEVER and it works wonders.

I think there was even a thread on this a while back....

it takes a while to fully cure, but you can start working with the model without waiting fully.

the stuff is the best airbrush primer I have ever used.

Well, seeing as how I use it to prime everything to paint, I can assure you that in this case what they say is true.

Yes, through a 0.25mm nozzle at around 20psi. Doesn't clog, but does dry on the tip. Sometime you'll need to take the end off and give the nozzle /needle tip a wipe. Less of an issue with larger nozzle size. I have. 0.4mm siphon feed, whic is better for bulk jobs.

DO NOT USE THINNER TO CLEAN STAIGHT AWAY. Particularly strong solvents, flush it out with water first - then wipe away as much as you can. The thinner I use tends to gunk this stuff.
