Nurgle Predator Driver with an Infestation
|
He is such a pain in the ass to glue together. I have both arms and his back on and stuff just keeps dropping. I am trying to put on his mechantendrls but they are not staying. I am using plastic cement glue so everything stay once it dries, but not working out to well.
Anyone have any pointers or anything for this model?

Use super glue. I didn't think that plastic cement even worked on the Finecast resin.

It works, just takes forever to dry which means I need to hold it there for a very long time and just can't hold it still for that long

Good looking model, but god I hate finecast.
Mine had terrible gaps that had to be filled with green stuff.
I also used a couple of pieces of guitar string to fill in a couple of large gaps on the back of the model.
the tendril arms I pinned in place, need to take care though. I actually used floral wire from AC moore for the pinning (its easy to work with and great for small bits.
The haft of his axe was so warped, that I cut it out and replaced it with a piece of brass rod.
Oh, and yes, use superglue on resin.
Hope that helps.
Ted.

Yes that helps
I love the look of the model as well, just sucks to put together
Now when you say you pinned the tendrils in place, how did you do that? Not to ask a dumb question, but I just want to know because I know they will probably be falling off a lot from handling. Automatically Appended Next Post: I also haven't worked with green stuff yet, but I may need to with this model

Yes, he is hard to put together. And like the others said, use superglue.
Another thing that helped me assemble is apply a tiny bit of greenstuff on the areas you want to glue together before adding the glue. This is usefull to get an even surface for the pieces that doesn't have a clean glueing-surface or with pieces that may be slightly warped and cant be glued evenly.
I for myself didn't pin the tendrils but he must have drilled a tiny hole in the end of the tendrils and the sockets and glued a bit of thin wire into them for additional stability.

Plastic cement does not work on Finecast, and if it does hold, it won't last. Go buy some superglue and pin it if you have to, but plastic cement will not hold resin properly because it doesn't fuse the pieces together. Most good plastic cements are fully dried in an hour or two but will start working as soon as they come in to contact with plastic. If you are holding the pieces together until the glue is dried, the only thing that is holding everything is the taciness of the glue; it isn't actually bonded.

The model is a PITA, and you should use super glue as everyone else mentioned. I also needed guitar wire to replace missing cable bits and had a warped axe haft.

I had a little bit of GW super glue left and tried that. Seems to be holding the tendrils pretty good. I know they are probably going to fall off from time to time. If it gets annoying, i will try pinning them possibly.

plastic cement works by chemically bonding the two pieces by essentially melting them together. Plastic cement cannot chemically bond resin. Superglue will bond the finecast resin very well. better than it does with plastic in my experience.

Yea I purchased the plastic cement to hold together all my plastic models, because the superglue wasn't holding well
. i will have to pick up some more superglue. I read that GW is changing their superglue. Not sure if I want to spend the money on their stuff, or just buy any superglue from hobby shop.

There is your problem... you bought GW "brand" glue. You need to avoid that stuff like the plague, it is a no good waste of money. That goes for any of their glue; plastic and superglue. There are much better (and cheaper) brands out there. For superglue (which you need for resin, Finecast, and metal models), just about any brand will do but I prefer Loctite (both regular and gel) and Zap-A-Gap. The Loctite is available at any hardware store and Zap-A-Gap can be found online or often in independent gaming stores (which you should always support!). For plastics, the Holy Grail is Revell Contacta Professional, but it is hard to come by in the United States so I would recommend Testor's Model Master Liquid Cement. It comes in a black triangular bottle with a metal applicator tip and works wonders.

Sounds silly but its an old trick I have done for years... take a tiny piece of paper towel like what you would use to stop a shaving nick. Put that in your joint that your gluing. The super glue seems to hold faster and stronger.
I think it helps. While I'm sure the OP is all good at this point I only hope this helps some one else out there with the warpsmith or techmarine!
