I've taken quite a few Dualwing's to 'Ard Boys Area, pre and post 5th Edition update and I would like to have some critiques on this list. I'm not feeling very strongly about it, mainly because I'm so unused to the Flyer meta atm. Give me a piece of your mind Dakka!

I thought about dropping the Dreads for knights, but the Excess Plasma is nice against Greentide and IG foot sloggers. Oh yeah, and the ever so random Tyranid players I face. Any suggestions? Keep in mind, the Termie squads can always get Free LC's if Wound allocation shenanigans is needed a little bit more.

290 for a ded transfer is too much better deep strike and take instead vindicators for anti-horde purpose

"Listen closely Brothers, for my life's breath is all but spent. There shall come a time far from now when our Chapter itself is dying, even as I am now dying, and our foes shall gather to destroy us. Then my children, I shall listen for your call in whatever realm of death holds me, and come I shall, no matter what the laws of life and death forbid. At the end I will be there. For the final battle. For the Wolftime."Leman Russ

A bit light on anti-air but otherwise not bad at all.

Land Raiders fit in well with Death Wing fluff. I see that, but like Drael said, it's just too expensive for something that's probably gonna get glanced to death turn 2. I'd say that a couple Vindicators will put out more hurt in the 2 turns they are alive. Three of them can be downright nasty to pretty much anything. I've witnessed an army with 3 Vindicators table 2 armies in the first 2 game turns at a tournie in 5th. If you get 1st turn, they WILL hurt gak. They WILL f up your opponents depoyment. I love them myself. Just don't expect them to stay alive. They have to move forward to get in range and usually end up exposing their side armor and getting popped very quickly. Still worth the points. 2-3 S10 AP2 large blasts are no joke.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I wouldn't worry about most casual air. You have the staying power with DW to just focus the objectives and try to psition in a way that forces fewer shots out of the scarier flyers.

The Dark Angel flyers aren't good, at all.

The air superiority one can barely go toe to toe with other flyers with anything other than the lascannon. The missles are only strength 6, so by averages, if you even hit with all of them against the better flyers, only a single one will glance. Heavy bolter can't hurt them. Avenger can glance. Or you go to ground attacking with both bolters, shoot 9 times, hurt hordes, but have missles that can kill 6 models, or light tanks. Maybe.
Then, it's described as the air superiority one, it has strafing run to light up ground targets. It's schizophrenic.

The ground attack one is useless. The hurricane bolters can light up ground targets, kind of. And if you're in range to rapid fire, a melta can try to get within 6 to get lucky and nuke it, the rift cannon is okay, at best, and i'm being nice to it. And then hover strike is a way to get the plane blasted out of the air as it becomes a skimmer and loses the snap shots that keep it durable.

Don't take either.

Flyers don't seem too scary in 6th edition. They are not game changers, or autotakes. If your opponent brought only one flyer, you could either ignore it and be pretty okay, and if you have no other better targets, you can try and shoot it out of the sky.

Out of all the flyers, the Heldrake seems to be the scariest. The baleflamer is harsh.

Stormraven's are imo the best flyer. Power of the machine spirit, AV12 all around and it's a transport vehicle.

/agree Flyers are not so bad in the 6th but the Necron Doomscythe and Helldrake are exceptions.

Stormravens are also the most expensive vehicles by far...

I don't know. You guys are disregarding vendetta gunships. Very undercosted ( somewhere [well] under 150 points :p ) for a well armored flyer with 3 twin-linked BS3 lascannons (still better than regular lascannons hitting at BS4). It can even take a pair of heavy bolters (super cheap as wel) to make it more versatile, if there are no good armored targets to shoot at. I think it's really under-costed, both great anti-flyer and anti-tank and if need be it has good transport capacity too!!! I know taking a couple of them isn't going to terrify as many armies as a Necron flying circus, but they are just great units.

They're 130 points, 10 for the bolters, buy them in squadrons of 3. They can literally rule the skies. All flyer wing on vendetta wing basically goes to the side that goes 2nd, because they come on and shoot the guys who rolled on first.
