This morning. Ill get my Neverborn Pandora + Teddy stuff and the wife will get Colette set +doves, rules and decks. Pretty stoaked about it! So more to come I spose

Yea same here. I really hope she can handle Teddy because the thing is a friggin beast in combat. But, I know itll take us awhile to get all the rules down and such but we are both pretty excited. Maybe Ill get some of the gaming group to join as well for more variety

But really thats a clever idea as far as "HA! I won, do dishes!" Although in about a month that wont be a big deal because we are finally installing a dishwasher for the first time since we've been a couple. Doing dishes then wont be a PITA

SO! The wife and I put a quick table together and played a 25SS match to learn the basics and such. It was a long process, as we would check and re check rules to make sure we were doing things right. So we finished a whole turn! But at the end of it, we were getting most things down anyways. So next time Im sure we will go farther and faster.

I had Neverborn Pandora set
Wife had Colette showgirls.

I left the Teddy at home since Ive heard the basic Colette set cant really handle the frigging thing Nothing really worth noting, though we both had a cool moment. I used Pandora and Candy as a team, and together stripped 5 wounds off Cassandra. And feeling cool about it, the wife used illusionist to swap Cassandra with Colette. So she uses some power on Pandora and I used Martyr to put the effect on Candy. The wife flips the red joker and does a metric crap load of damage and left Candy with 1 hitpoint

But other then suffling around and so on, not much happened, though I was planning on getting my sorrows surrounding Colette and with Candy and Pandora with the sorrows, I was going to whittle Colette down to death in my next turn. But we ended, as the wife needs to get to bed soon for work. Had a good time though, and Im pretty excited about learning and playing Malifaux

Sounds like a good start! As you get more familiar with how things work just remember it's not all about killing!

Depending on Strategies/Schemes it is actually possible for you to lose all of you models but still win the game on Victory Points!

Yea we are working on learning how to actually play first, and worrying about the rest 2nd. Speaking of, we played again yesterday and are going to do another match tomorrow as well. Yesterday was great fun, and we were moving at a much faster pace then our first game. We did 3 full turns, and had to call it, with both of us tying in VP. I was a blast, and Im really liking how Pandoras crew work together.

Yeah, Malifaux is definitely one of those games that I learned by playing. I feel like you learn the mechanics quickly, and then it's dealing with new pieces.

Oh yeah, definitely! There are so many times where I'll be looking over a card after the fact (mine or my opponent's) and I'll be like, "oh crap we couldn't have done that." This happened after a tag team match... it was Zoraida and Ramos vs, Dreamer/LCB and Nicodem (me) my partner had a stitched together and the dreamer left after some bad placements, and I was still sitting pretty with my canine remains. He quits (he's like 14 and hasn't learned it's a dick move to quit in a game in which you can still win). So It's basically 20ss worth of stuff vs 40ss. I was slowly killing off their stuff with Flesh Constructs and Undead puppies... Finally I lose an initiative flip and Zoraida casts Hex on Nicodem, I asked to see the card because he asked what gave me the ability to summon undead. I skimmed the rule made sure he could steal a spell, and said okay. So he flips, cheats with a 13, and then soulstones and flips another 13 for like a 33 on the casting flip. I can't beat that (I was out of stones) so I concede right then and there. I look at the card after the fact and I was like, "Oh hell... It's non-master..." So we shrugged and went on with other games, but we were talking that I would have easily been able to out their minions, but probably wouldn't have been able to complete my strategy or schemes.

Thats OK, just shows youre a badass and can handle more then normal I spose.

It was a fun game, and my opponents with their big bad mature nephilim and steamborg executioners sure learned to fear my pack of 2ss Canine Remains

lol, I love those stupid little things, though there's nothing quite as fun as desperate mercs-- I've obliterated so many important things with those guys. McMourning and a Nurse with those are really gross (and you can recycle them for Flesh Constructs/Rogue Necromancy)

Well we are in the middle of a game. We had to stop mid way for bed, but decided to leave it set up so we can for real, finish a match. I ran the sorrows linked to Kade again, and Candy with Pandora, as that seemed to be a decently good setup last time, though Im thinking of running sorrows with Pandora, but not sure, as she doesnt move very far. Anywho, really hurt Cassandra last night with Pandora and the sorrows, shes almost dead, so hopefully a good WP duel in my favor will make that hooker go bye bye.

Kade is 1 move away from being able to destroy one of the evidence counters. Cady poisoned a dove and that sucker has 2 wounds left, so it will go bye bye as soon as it activates. I dunno.....it seems like I could pull off a win, but Im really not sure, Colette seems like a frigging tough cookie, and she has a spell that does some easy damage to Pandora, thanks to her Df being so bad My wife seems to be ignoring her scheme and mission and just wanting to club me over the head, so Im going to push for my objectives and hope for the best.

Remember, Pandora moves VERY far, but they're all pushes and not walk activations. So you can spend 2 action points to move Pandora 6 inches forward, start your Pacify chain, move around the board, and if you plan it well, you can end up back in base to base with the sorrow. Remember, Pandora can push up to 4 inches whenever she wins a Wp duel. Now this isn't the same as Emotional Trauma which lets you deal a point of damage after an enemy model loses a Wp duel. The first is ONLY for Wp -> Wp duels (opposed Wp duels like Pacify), while the second is any duel, simple or opposed where the model in question uses their Wp stat.

PM me and explain the pacify chain in greater detail now that Ill understand exactly WTF youre saying


We are going to finish our game today, to many things stopped us yesterday. But yesterday, I did manage to kill off Cassandra with Pandora and sorrows everywhere, allowing Kade to move to an evidence token and destroy it. 1 down, 2 to go. Also, Im moving Candy around a building to try and take the other 2 evidence tokens, while poisoning performers and such on the way. Im hoping she can survive

I'll post it here so that everyone can have the knowledge. Under Abilities, Pandora has two (0) action abilities called Pacify and Incite. These two abilities change the order in which your opponents activate their models. You can't switch between the two abilities, you can simply pick either one and use it. Unlike other (0) actions, there is an added line at the end that says if this model wins the Wp duel, it may use it again at anytime during it's activation.

So the Pacify chain works like so.

1) Pick a target within 12 inches
2) Do an Opposed Wp->Wp duel (works like an attack flip, but both people use Wp).
3) If Pandora wins do the following:
3a) Apply the Pacify affect to the targeted model, which makes that model be the absolute last model that gets activated by your opponent that turn
3b) Apply 1 wound from Emotional Trauma, which deals 1 wound to an enemy model that loses a Wp duel within 12 inches of Pandora.
3c) Since Pandora WON a Wp duel, you can push her up to 4 inches in any direction thanks to Fading Memory.
4) Continue on with Pandora's activation either choosing a new pacify target, or doing something else.

Edit: If all of your opponent's models are pacified, then your opponent gets to activate them as normal, since they can't all be activated last...

Remember as long as Pandora WINS the duel, she can continue using Pacify that turn and push 4 inches everytime she wins.

So other things you might want to do (if you haven't already) is to cast Project Emotions on groups of models and apply the Pity effect which grants a Negative Twist to Wp duels (meaning they can't cheat ), then you can hit them with Pacify, and other nifty spells like Self-Loathing, which is great against a model with a low to mid Wp that has a large amount of Damage. So if you use Project Emotions, apply the Negative Twist to Wp duels (if they don't resist, they take a wound from Emotional Trauma), cast Self-Loathing on them (remember they can't cheat this), so they'll take 1 wound from Emotional Trauma from losing a Wp duel, and then you hit them with their own melee weapon, which uses the spell's casting and resist totals as the combat modifier, so if you have a difference of 6 or more, you can cheat it (Will double check the errata on this). So if you hit Lady Justice, who at minimum does 4 damage with her sword, you can deal 6 damage to a 12 wound model.

@KingCracker - There is something else you may want to either share with your wife (if you want to help her out) or keep from her (if you want to save your Teddy).

Colette actually has a pretty easy time dealing with Teddy to be honest. She has a spell called Disappearing Act which targets DF. This spell will bury the target model, bringing it back 6 inches away from Colette at the end of the turn. The trick is that Colette has a trigger that can make the model be sacrificed instead of buried, and replaces it with a Mannequin. This trigger requires that the Colette player use 2 soulstones on the spell (1 soulstone to get the trigger and 1 because the spell requires it) but has ~50% chance of just removing the target model.

That spell is one of the big ways Colette deals with hard hitting tough models. In addition, the Mannequin gives her another showgirl she can swap with.

Oh wow Ill have to tell her about that one

I wont do a play by play as I didnt really record what happened, as we are still learning the game and all that jazz. Basically the middle of the table was where it was at, because 2 of my evidence counters where close to it, and in the middle of them was her treasure counter. I ran the sorrows linked to Kade, and Candy was originally with Pandora. So first turn was shuffling around and getting into position on both sides. Colette reactived and summoned a dove, she pretty much did this the majority of the game. The wife got smart, and moved her close to a performer and mannequin to buff them up, while vomitting out doves. Kade hurt Cassandra, and then thanks to me being awesome, Cassandra failed a WPduel with Pandora, and then took 4 wounds thanks to her and the sorrows, and it was enough to kill off Cassandra early. Kade went on the next turn to take the first evidence counter.

My wife moved a performer and a mannequin around a building to try and hassle Candy with a dove. The dove was poisoned, and was sacrificed later on. Candy then went in and poisoned the mannequin, to insure that I kill that one off for my scheme. Problem was, the performer did some crazy skill that paralyzed Candy AND with the trigger, poisoned her something fierce, and of course, I had no control cards to help, so she just took it on the chin. By this time though, Pandora and sorrows ended the life of the other performer, and Kade hauled ass to the other side of the board ignoring Colette, to try and make it to another evidence counter. Colette had FINALLY taken her treasure counter and started to head back for her deployment. Candy ended up eatting it to poison and being hit with a weak 1 damage bash from the performer , but not after the mannequin died. Kade came to the rescue and completely ripped the performer a new one. He then went on to take the 2nd evidence counter on the last turn.

Colette finally made it far enough into her deployment with the treasure counter, and by this time Pandora and crew was just far enough away to not do anything to her. So the game ended, with me having lost Candy, and the wife loosing everything but Colette. I thought I had it in the bag. So we counted the victory points up. I got 2vp for destroying 2 evidence counters, and 2VP for kidnapping the 3 I chose. So 4 total.

The wife got 4VP for getting the treasure into her deployment, so we were tied. Until she revealed that her secret scheme was framed for murder, and it was the frigging performer I chose to make disappear! So +1VP goes to my wife. She was REALLY happy, and I was too really, because I beat the pooh out of her crew, and truthfully was feeling a bit bad.....UNTIL she told me about her scheme So a hardy congrats to the wife for not only finishing our first Malifaux game, but also to her first victory!!


Next time, Ill take some detailed reports, and possibly pictures if our current camera will work with me. Problem is, our normal camera pooped on itself and so we are using a 2nd hand loaner...that is....well....finicky to put it nicely. Anywho, hope this worked for now, and next time itll be MUCH better I think.

Nightmare Teddy might work better for that sort of GS-fu btw, I love that kade, it looks so much better than mine But mine has a brown spot on the diaper

Thanks for the compliment on Kade. His diaper actually has more color to it, but by the time I got my damn camera to focus correctly and all that, it was late, and the sun was already behind grey sky, so it bleached the color. Oh well. I thought about adding something to his diaper as well, but thought it would end up taking away from the other colored parts.


As for teddy, Ill be honest, I think I like the normal sculpt a bit more. I dunno, maybe nightmare teddy is a bit too OTT for my tastes? Ahh thats cool. Ive actually thought about trying to find the perfect sized Pinhead from HellRaiser fame, for a counts as Pandora. Not only do I LOVE HellRaiser movies, but he also is tied to a box. That, and the Cenobytes arent too dissimilar from NeverBorn. But I dunno if I could ever find a mini with the right scale for such a cool idea

OK heres a simple question that Im just not 100% sure on.

Candy. Sweets. She can target friendly model within 2 inches, and that model can make a healing flip. Can she do this on herself? Shes a friendly, and obviously within 2 inches. Yes? I havnt done this yet, mainly because Id feel bad if I found out I was cheating. If there is anything in the book about not using spells on yourself, Ive missed it.
