Seems rather good from what i have played. Loot system like D2. a very very big skill system.


Different Leagues.

Hardcore League 1 death, your char dumps into the normal server

Paid Leages.

Speed leveling, 4 hour go, then every 15min a player gets eleminated until there is 1 player left. (lowest level gets kicked off server)

Open PvP leagues

Hardcore Open pvP leages.

Skills are based off what "Gems" you have equipped.

There is RED - Strength
Blue - Magic - Int
Green - Dex

Gear has gem slots that you equip and gives you that skill to a max of 8x.

Gems level up and have a stat REquirment to use the skill.

You then build and match your char to do what you want it to have for skills.

Ontop of this there is a Massive Passive skill tree, biggest ive ever seen, that you can customize your character with more.

Path of Exile: The game without trousers.
The passive skill tree is a sight to be feared.

I'd probably try it out if they had a female close combat class of some sort.

The only female characters are a ranger and a witch.

Also the passive tree seems kind of dumb, I highly prefer "when you hit a mook with your lazer beam, it has a XYZ chance of arcing" to "lazar beam is 1/2/3/4/5% shootier

Anyways, I gave the game a try yesterday, and I'm liking it. Really the only complaint I have about the game is instead of calling the character an assassin, which based on his intro fluff that's what he is, they call him a shadow. Ehhh. Anyways, I love the currency system and the skill...astrological pattern? I wouldn't call it a tree...anyways it's pretty brilliant.

It's several improvements on the d2 combat and stats system, and a small boost to the visuals, but it's behind d3 by a bit, but only on the visuals department.

Also, Melissia, quit bitching about this with every bloody game. Especialy in ones where it isn't an issue.

A melee ranger is perfectly legit. There are dex swords. Add to this the fact that the passive grid is completely based on your own choice, your class only determines your starting location on it.

So please, go on and dismiss every game you come across on some rediculous feminist notion.

In fairness...
There's no real reason to leave female character models out of games. Some might claim it's to save time but if (For example) they have 20 male characters models in a game why couldn't they have 10 male and 10 female?
I'm not saying they do it maliciously or even consciously most of the time but it seems like video games (One of the largest media industries in the world) has an absurdly poor record when it comes to women.
There are very few female characters in games and even fewer female protagonists. I'd prefer an industry that recognises the society it is a part of instead of creating a phantom social structure where women are wholly useless and never do anything and where women aren't an increasing part of the player base.

To me, Path of Exile appears to be the Diablo 3 we never had....I really like the game so far.

Heard that a full defense marauder works pretty well. Currently going for templar.

I am kinda irritated though by the weird combat stances, especially the templar's...his foot stance looks really weird when he's hitting an enemy with a club.

I was playing with miskatonicalum and his lvl 18 ranger made things really easy, so he re-rolled a witch, and we powered through to the prison, and by powered through, I mean I tried to kill stuff but usually just died against things with magic. I need to watch my health more, and I do like some of the aoe stuff the Marauder gets.

Really interesting way to build the game's abilities.

I'm currently building a Necromancer Templar...
I shall then form The Society of Evil Paladins.
And we shall have cake.

Yeah the Ranger focusses on evasion rather than armour for defence which is probably why they are largely ranged. Though if you went full Dex you'd end up with a scary attack speed.

I'll take a look at it after I take my cat to the vet then.

Rangers can do melee well.

And Rangers do not Rely on Evasion. or should not.

Its the one Broken stat that cannot be balanced well.

When you go south on the Ranger tree, you take + Evasion Passives, then you go down south which isnt far, and it turns All evasion into Armor. You can then run Evasion+Armor Ratings (All changed into ARM) and be good.

There are plenty of melee skills near Ranger, and Ranger is right beside the Shadow to go into their skills,

On the Wheel it goes.. Witch > Shadow > Ranger > Marauder.

This puts the ranger right between the two melee classes with easy access to their passives, along with they have some melee ones of their own.

Never looked at the ranger's skill locale so I was unaware of the Evasion=Armour skill.
Ranger is pure dex while shadow and duelist are right next to her.
The half and half classes are in between the pure classes.
So it goes Witch, shadow, ranger, duellist, marauder, templar then witch again.

I forgot about Duelist in there.

But yea, the Evasion --> armor is very nice.

There is also another skill with this you can take (Kind of harder to get to depending on what you do) that makes you immune to stun, but you cannot evade attacks.

But of course... you have no evasion so you get stun Immunity with no downside.

Just make sure you pre plan your build to an extent and know where your heading as respecing isnt easy.

Along with.. Grab HP passives, they go a long way.

Clarity Gem: Reservers a chunk of your mana and increases mana regen. (of course unless you plan on the passive to use Life instead of mana to use abilities)

Thing is with Clarity for Ranger if you choose to use it, do not level the gem past 3. As it will take up to much mana, i run 2x Aura, i have 297 Mana, 197 Reserverd, But with my regen im able to spam abilities better then a full 300 mana or so.

I played it about a year ago. Nothing spectacular.
Didn't like the random powers (you are a lightning mage if you find a lightning gem, not if you pick lightning skill).
I don't think it brings anything new to the genre. Got bored with it pretty fast.

At least that's how it looked some time ago, don't know if anything changed

It's pretty much the same as what you said personally but I enjoyed it far more than you did apparently.
The powers aren't random either just choose the gems you want...

I was going to say.. its not hard to get the gems you want between Trade channel/quests.
