ronnieatmantic: grim - I got my magician book signed by Raymond E Feist about 2 months ago _ I was really tempted to ask for a licnece there and then!

A Rift War license would send me broke I think, it's been my favourite fantasy series for a very long time. Up to book ~27 at this point haha. Also very keen on anything they do with Z'zor!

Aren't they just the "videocassette boxes", but in black plastic instead of white?

If they go ahead with fishmen or lizards then I guess I will finally have to plunge whole hog into Kings of War.

Poorly lit photos of my ever- growing collection of completely unrelated models!

Anyone recognize those tanks in the artwork on the wall in that photo of Ronnie?

Is that new stuff Mantic- centric or is it just random scifi artwork?

I'd be more interested seeing in Atlanteans or naga than fishmen or lizardmen. Or both, with an Atlantean-naga hybrid (read: mermaid) reclining on a palanquin to lead them.

I'd just be happy with Mantic's spin on some repitlian/ scaled rank and file. I would hope they'd bring something unique to the table.

Ideally we'd get mobs and piles of hard plastic Mantic guys with Mierce big stuff to support them.

I just want a scaly Mantic army of some sort.

Indeed they are, the black just looks more streamlined and classy to me.

Mid December

Vermonter wrote:James, will the Blaine in Mars Attacks be hand-sculpted or computer rendered?

You know, I've got no idea - however, I'm assuming yes, as everything else in MA has been.

Barzam wrote:Was The Nexus PSi or whatever its called campaign going to have a .pdf as well, or was that just going to be physical? After reading through the rulebook, I'm really curious to see what the premade scenarios are going to be.

Should be a PDF too, yeah - but not for a little while yet.

Barzam wrote:So... they're considering PDC, or just "talked" with them? New plastics would certainly be nice. Vehicles would be even better. Did anybody ask about those?

I'm not up with the latest info on this, but someone in the chat last night was saying that while PDC do good straight-line stuff, they're relatively untested on soft lines / organics, and that's where we'd need them to be awesome.

Azazelx wrote:

Yes. Hence more awesome! Pop culture wouldn't lie to me.

The latter - that's Curis' wall of cool stuff, the tanks are from Warzone Resurrection.

Huzzah! My shipment arrived! And was insanely weighed down by the metal...

I will have to go through it more thoroughly this weekend though. I appear to be short a couple of S3 prone markers and maybe one or two other models. Plus the Season 2 boosters that they are shipping later. Hopefully I can get that inventory done this weekend (car drama...it is fun...) to make sure of what's what so if anything really is missing they can maybe plunk them into that box.

What I had the chance to look at seemed good. Looking forward to busting them out of the bags tonight.

Rather then a straight port of lizardman ala GW I would prefer a race of evil alignment large snakemen like the one's from confrontation, human barbarians and a very evil looking lizardman hybrid.

I would also like them to make a book with differnt races in that are to few for a stand alone army but are able to allie with one of the allignments. For example:
The Arachnids, a race of giant spider/human hybrids of evil alignment.
Cloud Giants, an ancent race of intelligent but now dwindled number of giants of Good Allignment.

It'll be in the next survey.

Very cool design, will probably use as Rebs commanders or something.

In fact, that's what I love about the Rebs, you can just throw any mini you have into the army and it fits. I have some urban war minis that are going to see a new life as warpath/ DZ minis.

I don't think I'm even going to consider using it for DZ rather than infinity, TBH - but to each his own (and it kinda *is* the DZ thread ). Shame it'll take so long to get (what with second survey and all) compared to retail buyers, but oh well. I'll probably get one off ebay or swapshop or whatever, if they're available for somewhat reasonable prices

I generally prefer plastic to metal, but I do like that alt. sculpt of the Survivor. Always good to get alternate relaxed / active poses for character figures.

It looks like the Survivor is going to fit in well with the Tiger Corps.

If we do get lizardmen, I want to see a different take on them for the usual GW styled Aztec lizards. I want Lizardmen to be a high-tech faction. If I have to deal with Lizardmen, I want them to look cool with lots of sleek, curvy heavy armor.

Yep, going to try to blag one at the open day if possible (mantic usually has some sweet convention-only mini sales stuff going on, I remember the last time I went some people even got the twilight kin army 6 months before release).

Ill admit, a Riftwar license would ruin my wallet beyond repair. I'd go VERY heavily into that. $600+ heavy...

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

So much fertile ground to cover. Kingdom, Kesh, Tsuranuanni, Cho-ja, Daemons, Mercs (Novindus), Pantathians, Tiger Men, Dwarves, Elves, Star Elves, Moredhel/Goblins/Giants/etc. Possibilities for some epic individual characters and funky stuff too. We can dream...

Back in semi-reality, reading through the deadzone book still and still really impressed. Simple, quick action rules that look to provide deep gameplay. Mantic is definitely on a winner with this one!

The rules really are wonderful, aren't they?

I love the fact that there's still a points system in place rather than it being a free-for-all, and one that takes experience and skills into account too.

The issue with many skirmish games (mordhiem/ necromunda etc.) was one warband getting way too large or powerful and clobbering everything (the underdog rule was never effective), at which point you kinda have to retire your warband and start over.. deadzone allows you to keep that one warband running forever without things becoming unbalanced.

With Deadzone you pick an army list out of the larger pool of minis that you have available and as you progress you unlock more units available to hire. It is really well done, and the injury/ upgrade system is handled very well too, more in common with computer games than anything else where you have a wide variety of short upgrade trees, unlocking one skill and then an upgraded version of that skill later.
