I'd love to see copies of these cheat sheet/summaries online somewhere.

@Yonan, I'm pretty sure the hardback still exists. Nobody has shown one off that I've seen though. Probably aren't all that many really.

Well, to be fair, Mantic aren't exactly saying "we'll send them out once they're printed" either, so it's a pretty natural assumption to make that they don't necessarily intend to send out 4300 sets of the cards separately down the line. And it is obnoxious to have a character-card-based game with no cards for the models. It's the price of the choice of the manufacturer to go with cards instead of army books, and the onus really is on them...

You beat me to it!

Mantic shouldn't be getting a pass on this one - and they should be a bit more clear on what exactly will be going on here.

What are we missing actual cards for: by my count, it's only the Swashbuckling Sorak and the Plague Enforcer, right? And these two items were added right before the second survey, yes? Honestly, I bought both, and I'm not too fussed about it right now-they were both extremely late additions. I will be annoyed if I don't ever get the cards, but I'd be quite surprised if they just said "digital only, deal with it". We're ALL getting a shipment in October of Enforcers, if you so much as ordered anything relating to the Enforcer starter, so I'd suspect those two cards will be making their way in that order group. Again, I don't speak for Mantic, but that's my guess on the matter. I'd be surprised and chagrined if they blew the cards off completely.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

Cheers, I hope so. Really looking forward to that big chunky hard package of fun and excitement. Oh the things I plan to do with it...

They should probably state exactly what will be happening though.

Oh, completely agree-they let us know, nobody worries. They keep it hidden until they send out, people will be annoyed they didn't know what was going on. GW keeps the veil, and that's something Mantic has tried not to do. They should continue trying not to do that. Just a quick update would be a good idea.

Reality is a nice place to visit, but I'd hate to live there.

I'd happily put them online - they might not be really helpful to you, though: I've written them in a mix of English (name) and German (description), since another purpose of the things is to be an aid for those players in my group with limited English skills...

Compendium became a slip cover and the 4 books, I think you got one if you ordered over 300? May be wrong. And the hardback veteran/add-on compendium should exist too.
The $300+ one, the ~$800+ one still a single hardback containing everything?

According to the shipping overview posted by Mantic (which should probably be updated) the hardback seems to exist and has already been delivered to Mantic (at the bottom of the table):

Hopefully I'll get mine with the 2nd shipping...

Hey everybody -

so I've been enjoying Deadzone with one of my buddies and my brother recently picked up the box and another of my buddies got a team, and the FLGS is interested in carrying it. I told them I'd paint up and donate teams to the store if they did decide to carry it (I've got at least one extra of every team, sigh).

My question is - what's the current state of the Deadzone game box? I heard the old giant box was being discontinued for a slimmer box set (very important for shelf real-estate), and obviously the plastic Enforcers are coming in October - does this mean there will be a new starter box for Christmas? That's when they'd probably carry it, in time for the Holidays, so I'm wondering if anyone's heard of any info.

Or, if no one has heard of anything, since Mantic will be at Gencon, if anyone is going, could they ask about that? A new smaller starter box with the new Enforcer plastics?

Those sci-fi zombies look great! I already have tons of the 'Strain' miniatures from Sedition Wars (which look a little similar in concept, albeit a bit more 'manga' in style) but am sure these will be a pretty good option for those who don't want to have to convert their own from other sources.

Out of interest, does anyone know if there are any places taking pre-orders for the Forge Father starter pack for Deadzone? Seen it on Mantic's own site but would like to buy it from a trader if possible.

Firestorm are

8.99(with 10% off) for the set of the plastic forge guard, if I hadn't already spent. My hobby budget this month I'd be tempted to grab one of the iron ancestors.

There are a number of great cheat sheets and summaries done as uploads on the boardgamegeek page for the game.

I particularly like the actions flowchart sheets for introducing newbies. - you can do 2 actions from this sheet or 1 from that one.

Has anyone had a chance to try out the AI deck yet? I think the quality of these will influence my decision for DS: DKQ.

I'm hoping to soon. First I'm gonna try the initial zombie solo mission.

Really the ai rules are pretty simple, each model has a type and that type has a priority list for its actions. The deck mostly picks which model moves in what order, and sometimes it spams battle cards. The other battle cards are set to triggers that are fairly obvious (use move if it let's you charge or fire heavy weapon, steadfast on a shift of 2 aggression, and so on). The rules also say you can give the AI a 1-3 point lead if you need the challenge. The an runs 2 missions simultaneously so it can get double points for certain kills or objective caps, balanced against the fact that you know their missions. They use all their battle cards and reshuffle their deck if they bottom out, only your deck is a game timer.

I think you can say that it doesn't so much play itself as it gives you a strong guideline and handy cap for moving the other team around. You know his hand and missions so he gets a break, you know your own mission which would be a problem with just playing both sides with no extra rules, but his guys all act in a random order most basically doing what each is best at. I'm sure there are traps you can put the AI by exploiting its features... but not something to do if you want the challenge.

Thanks for that - I found this and it seems pretty extensive:

I can attest the zombie rules are fairly entertaining, if you don't watch your actions closely you'll be overrun. A team of 4 enforcers all shooting and moving would probably be in CC from just those actions on the first turn.

Hope to check out the AI rules soon but I've got to go see about taking some pictures of the mantic booth to share here.

What is the AI deck? I just got two decks that included cards for all the Mercs, bots, defenders, a zombie, etc. Should I have an AI deck?

I think that was an additional $5 add-on

Yeah 5 or 8 or something. I haven't seen anyone with physical cards yet.

Basically its a stack of cards that read:
Distance
Type
Type
Stop/go

With a couple that more or less say 'play all the tricky cards in your hand now'.

Basically each drawn card tells you which ai unit to move and whether or not to stop and pass the turn or keep going.

Simple enough but I haven't got to try it out.

I don't know what pledge you put in but I did the $150 sweet spot pledge. I've got all the extra campaign gubbinz-digitally (Nexus Psi,Contagion & Incursion) as well as the AI, Forge Fathers, Asterians, 2nd wave and 2nd survey decks.

The physical deck was an add-on, but everyone should get the virtual deck on wargamer vault.

Guess there's not a lot of point in taking my own tomorrow, might anyway though.

Well decided to buy some warbases 'zombie' trays for the plague zombies when they turn up. Think they should look pretty good once based up. Going to be a lot easier moving a hundred plus zombies when the Warpath beta hits.

Same here. I figure we can expect it in September with an outside chance of October.
