Not without a lot of work the left hand is molded onto the gun and joins at the wrist so you would have to remove it and resculpt the details

Well picked up mars attacks! at gencon Looked like they had a fair few left for purchase. Didn't get to ask any good questions today but it sounded like Ronnie would be there tomorrow.

Janes Gully was... interesting. Apparently the guy who was supposed to run it bailed in some form and another guy got stuck with it. It was meant to be three rounds but we only did two since we were all kind of n00bs. We had a few no shows so we ended up with just three teams/factions. Cool guys all around, especially the brilliant man who had two sets of laminated cheat sheets. We all had fun, so the ramshackleness of it wasn't a huge deal.

I know you've had a chance to see shots of unboxed mars attacks already, but you'll see more if you visit my p&m blog in the next couple of days.

Further updates, Chris said no warpath this year, the domes missing in my MA box are a fluke, Ronnie is awesome (so is Chris and the rest of the team manning the mantic booth). Think thats it, oh no, that's right. The starter does have a smaller box now, at lest I looked slimmer by far.

They did say the proper retail boxes were going to be half the thickness, on account of not having to fit as much stuff in them as the backers got.

@GrimDork - No Warpath, but will there be a Deadzone related KS?

They just said no warpath I didn't think to ask about dz2.0 shoot! I'll get a photo of the box up when I get back to good internet. Retail package is much much smaller than KS fulfilment box, but I think there has only been one size for it.

Right - somehow I misread Grimdork's post and thought he meant "no Warpath in 2015." Very disappointing when you read it that way. (That is, incorrectly.)

I didn't think Warpath would debut this year either.

Me either, but we didn't know for SURE that they weren't going to sneak it in before the end of the year or whatever. I think DS is turning out pretty big so they're gonna be dealing with that.

I think they're still working on sending packages out. I'm not sure if they've got the forge father sprues in and have started those orders yet or not, it was supposed to be the 10th but who knows, and Ronnie was at GenCon selling the crap out of some games and terrain (ridiculous amount of energy!) so the big boss hasn't been around to crack the whip.

Thanks for the pics Grim! Looking forward to seeing the different coloured minis primed to see if they do vary in quality or if it's just the colour interfering. As others have said the army men look great quality in beige but the martians and reddies look softer. Don't be another almost please mantic ; p

Uploading now as I type, should be done in just a couple of minutes. I think they came out better with the white undercoat and black wash. They aren't super crisp, these aren't resin or metal or Infinity models or anything, but I think even I will be able to put a passable face on all of them.

I think for a couple of the women, the eyes will be somewhat more implied than readily available, but the main shapes of the face are there, just shallow.

For what we always knew was a boardgame, I'm fairly sure I can live with and worth with these no problem. I put in a pretty big pledge on such materials, but I don't think I'm gonna start regretting that over this.

Hmm, they do look really bendy and the mould lines are heavier than I was expecting.

Detail seems to be roughly the same as restic with the mushed-out facial detail.

The 1-piece martians suffering from filled-in voids is unfortunate.

As I was saying all along. They're just what I expected from boardgame plastic - and the same as I expect from the DKH Adventures KS - they're BG plastic PVC figures, not "proper" miniatures - and so I dollar-value them appropriately - which is that they are worth less than proper miniatures. Mantic fans need to bear this in mind with the DKH KS as well. You're not getting metal or Dust's pre-primed or Confrontation's Pre-paints or HIPS as you would from a GW boardgame like Space Hulk, you're getting boardgame figures in PVC, like Zombicide or something from FFG. (and the Gears models are a lot nicer than this, FWIW)

I'm not sure where you were getting all of your "sharp details, no mould lines" ideas from.

The mould lines are certainly a lot worse on these than on the 'samples' that mantic showed us previously

(pretty much as I expected they would be)

but as board game pieces for a game you want to play at the price paid decent value none the less

but it does show what Dwarf King's Quest's stuff will look like, fine to keep for the game, not so good to use elsewhere

Mold lines don't bother me terribly as everything else I work with has them to some degree, and if they exist at all they require being dealt with (at least I do, I know some people prefer minimal lines they can just kind of ignore). So if they're there at all they may as well stick out a quarter inch so I can see them I'm finding cutting this (like with restic) is better for me, especially on the narrow/thin parts, but on thicker and solid bits you can scrape a lot like hard plastic. Big critters made out of this are liable to be pretty solid and easy to scrape. Did we talk about some other intermediate tool at some point that was maybe going to work well for scraping but wasn't a knife?

The faces are certainly squishier than I'd like, but not bad enough for me to be a sad panda about my pledge. It does make me stop to consider DS a little harder, though I bought a boatload of bones minis to which these are likely to be similar, so probably not a lot of difference either way.

The Gears models are great. These don't look like they measure up, which is a disappointment, although they had two things going against them right from the start. The Mars Attacks original sculpts weren't as richly (Remy) detailed as the Gears of War figures were, and they are also (if previous images representing their scale were accurate) quite a bit smaller than GOW minis. Larger models like the bugs may fare better.

Some of the faces look pretty good, actually. Some of the men's faces, like Deke's and Buddy's, come across well in the photos. The women, though . . . I don't own any restic minis with faces that mushy.

Bit disappointed by some of the soft detail, gaps between the arms being filled and that there are mold lines like that after mantic said there were virtually none. :(

Anyway, glad I skipped on any minis on Mars Attacks, not really my thing anyway. The mat and terrain will just get used up in something else probably.

Thanks for the pictures, makes me more sure that pulling my pledge on DKQ will be the right move. Well, dropping to $1 and picking up stuff for my KoW Undead in the PM, but that's nowhere near as dramatic sounding as 'Azazelxing'.

If I had any interest to begin with (I didn't) these pictures would make me stay well away from Mantic's dungeon whatever kickstarter. It almost feels like Mantic has transitioned from being a miniatures manufacturer to a board game manufacturer, but haven't bothered telling anybody since the "new plastic formula" is always promised that will eliminate all of the concerns that people interested in well sculpted and paintable miniatures have with the material. I don't blame Mantic for following the money, but it is pretty clear to me that Mantic is a board game company now.

I can't be bothered to spend my time painting up bendy mold line riddled low detail board game pieces to try and shoe horn them into the types of miniatures games that interest me.

Absolutely nothing against any of you that enjoy the more board game type stuff or for whom these types of board game pawns work, I just can't be bothered any more. Got too much nice stuff to paint already.
