It would not be funny were it not so true.
Also, on average they are 100% more intelligent, but that is so self-evident that I did not mention it at first. To do so would be gauche.

On the contrary. Scientifically, incongruity makes something funny. The unexpected makes something funny.

Afraid not.
The notion that "It is funny because it is true" is essentially the foundation of observational comedy, which was one of three forms of comedy employed regularly by George Carlin ("the little world"). That something might be unexpected does not make it true.
Truth. George Carlin. So is your face.

Except observational comedy is dry and awful.

No. Always. And abandoning your original point in favor of resorting to insulting me violates several of DakkaDakka's rules.

I haven't abandoned my original point at all sir.
You went off the rails with your own irrelevant tomfoolery (Namely making this a queer debate concerning comedy)..
That said, an astute reader would notice what I said was never, in fact, on-topic, nor was your amusing pissing contest with Melissia.
So we have both, in fact, been violating several of DakkaDakka's rules. I'm just much more honest about it.

I'm not quite sure if they are mad at each other or having a witty troll-fest. Either way, it's descending into butthurt.
Also, fluffy armies don't necessarily mean bad armies. It just means the army is an accurate representation of what the army would use in the lore. That could be good or bad. Vulkan He'stan lists are incredibly optimized, and also very fluffy.

Wondering Why the Emperor Left
|
I would think that this topic has gone on long enough, and we have properly defined that Fluff is either A:
Delicious food that eat, or the stuff that goes in your pillow.
Or B:
It is a term for lore, both canonical and non-cannon.
This being stated, this thread has turned into a proverbial pissing match.
Could a Moderator lock this thread? I hate to be the one to crack the metaphorical whip or snitch but, this has gone on long enough to be self-destructive. This thread was created to define the slang term "fluff". It has gone it's course and de-evolved to talking of WAAC armies and Fluffy armies, which is off-topic. Furthermore, you guys should be ashamed, faltering to the lows of insulting each-other when all this dakkanaut wanted a simple, easy answer.

I'd love to see your explanation of all the non-fluffy lists that win tournaments. Must be sheer dumb luck.
Three days on Dakka, and you've made it onto my ignore list. Congratulations, that's a new record.

"Did you ever notice how in the Bible, when ever God needed to punish someone, or make an example, or whenever God needed a killing, he sent an angel? Did you ever wonder what a creature like that must be like? A whole existence spent praising your God, but always with one wing dipped in blood. Would you ever really want to see an angel?" |

I hear "I say proverbial to sound intelligent"
Otherwise, good point.

Aside from being a tad bit petty, I don't get why that comment deserves ignoring. All you said was that fluffy lists can win tournaments too.
Read: white scars, Vulcan lists, Tyranids hive mind lists and what will become raven wing.
All are true to fluff, all can and will e competitive.

Fluff really only effects gameplay when youre trying to build your army (making an Orky unit not sparratic and randomized is so unfluffy) or when trying to decipher a RAI rule based on what that race or unit normally does.
Otherwise, its just flavour like everyone else has been saying. It adds a little punch to your army's history and makes the games feel like a small RPG (or large depending on game size) rather than a board game. My friends and i love to add commentary to our battles with our bosses or characters when something happens like my measily Nob in my boyz group makes 4 6+ saves i'll go "WOT DA ZOG WAZ DAT!?"
