Is it me of did Wargames Factory just christen them as "robots"?

They're *leviathans* dammit. We don't play with robots or toy soldiers... oh...

Looks quite nice. I agree that the large one can be a titan stand-in whereas the smaller 15mm one is good for a dreadknight that I wouldn't be embarassed to field.

You shouldn't be so derivative as it's a different looking model. Clearly the baby termie should go on its back hump like giving a toddler a ride on your shoulders or on the back like Master Blaster! If you're going to potentially derp your model, do it with some style.

Hello,

I added pictures of the Leviathan Mortis that was previewed at GenCon to my 'Dreamforge' thread- I didn't want to spam this thread with pics.

I think people might be okay with that type of "spam".. just not the kind talking about discount Prada purses and Nike shoes or how cheap your Rx meds are.

The Mortis looked fantastic! Was there a painted 15mm leviathan? I only saw the unpainted one I posted the comparison photo of last page.

The WGF booth had two painted Mortis (one by me), a painted 15mm Crusader, an unpainted 15mm Crusader, and the painted full size Leviathan Crusader.

It sounds like the additional weapon arms will be done soon. After talking to the gentleman that manages the factory in China I'm really looking forward to the stuff coming down the pipe.

RiTides, if you look on that thread Dr. Mathias posted a link to, it has his 15mm Crusader also.

Great job Mathias. I want to get to mine, but I just haven't been able to yet. I recently started picking up some AK interactive stuff to use, and find it's a great line of products.

Thanks for the comment. They're great kits, I love them. Luckily I had a LOT of free time the last few weeks so that I could get them done for the conventions.

And yes, the AK Interactive stuff is great. I really enjoy using their products. I'm seriously considering focusing on vehicles and armor for my personal projects now

15mm scale Crusader with 28mm scale Stormtrooper.

Any resemblance of this post to written English is purely coincidental.

It was even more astounding in person. It was an astounding paint job, and I'd dare say you'd have difficulty telling which was 28mm and 15mm unless you had objects to scale it to.

If that is a 15mm Crusader above, it is much bigger than I thought.

That Mortis is fantastic.

Does the AK stuff require you to varnish the model first?

agreed, I expected the 15mm to be more dreadnought sized, but looks more dreadknight sized. Either way the model is sexy

If I remember correctly the 15mm plastic is slightly shorter than the smaller resin one released earlier

The way I read it at the time was that *cough* the entire *cough* point was that the 15mm one would be DreadKnight sized.

I had the opposite reaction, but then again, I use the resin ones which are even bigger

But yeah, I think it's dreadknight sized, not dreadnought sized (unless you like your "dreadnoughts" tall like I do ). Still fits fine on a 60mm base, though (as would a dreadknight afaik).

It seems like many modelers apply a sealer layer between applications of acrylic and oil/enamel. I think this is more important for washes, because you typically want them them to collect in recesses and edges and not be drawn onto flat surfaces via capillary action (gloss is more smooth, flat is more particulate and will draw out and retain fluid, causing sediment and dark patchy areas where you don't want it). I'm pretty sure you don't need to worry about the enamels or oils affecting unvarnished acrylic- I've never seen anything to indicate that it would be a problem.

That said, layers upon layers of odd things waterbased/oil based/enamel based make me nervous because of years and years of fine art painting theory, where the rule is to keep it simple and avoid layers of too many different types of paint.

The Dreamforge models I did have the following layers:

Primer (red, gray, and black sprayed lightly)
Krylon matte sealer (it came out satin though, and it is probably acrylic, I'll have to check)
AK Chipping effects
Acrylic paint applied with airbrush, followed by hand painting and touch up
(Mortis only- Future Floor Wax with black ink and paint as a wash)
AK Rust effects, Streaking Grime (enamels)
Dry pigments, graphite pencil for metal edges, some acrylic
Satin sealer
Testor's 'Dullcote' (Flat spray)

I have to admit that I didn't follow any particular tutorial, I kind of blended a couple different scale modelling and miniature painting techniques.

Future Floor Wax! I bet they never thought their product would be used this way

Having read several Fine Scale Molders that span 15+ years Future is an old modelers trick. At this point I wouldn't be surprised if they checked how it would affect modeling applications if they switch the formula.

I am looking forward to the eisenkern heavy trooper, does anyone know when these will be released? I didn't do the kickstarter thing so it's more about when they are released in shops
