Right, is this game supposed to be possible because the sheer frustration is starting to upset me and make me ill? Me bird's gone and dumped me after I made the mistake of angrily spurning her amorous advance saying the fateful words : "Good god, woman, I'm not a climbing frame, go to bed, I'm busy." Even my neighbour who lives above me has stopped talking to me ever since I sent my controller through my kitchen window and into his face when he was outside.
I've been sacked from work after I somehow managed to call my boss (must have jabbed quickdial amidst my desperate efforts) while I was roaring horrendous abuse at the telly. I've even tripped over many a cliff edge as I desperately tried to free myself from a dead body that's become stubbornly entangled around my legs.
I've had enough. Can anyone help me because I'm chucking it in the bin if not.
Cheers. :(

If any of what you just said is true you should chuck it, and probably never touch any difficult game ever again. You obviously can't deal with it.

Agreed wholeheartedly! Don't let a game ruin your life, if you cant handle the stress the game can toss your way then go to something more user friendly

Sounds quite normal for Dark Souls.
Anyway...
I know this is totally useless advice, but stick at it (and if in doubt, always keep your shield up).

Well...basically..um, the beginning. I keep charging down into that graveyard like a frothing nutter but I always get my head kicked in by the skeletons. Iv'e managed to off the Taurus Daemon, that's all. Can you kill that shopkeeper because I think that's my next move.

If you kill the shopkeeper, you get a (pretty good) katana, but that's it. You're better off leaving him alive.
Don't go into the graveyard, unless it's a suicide run for the Zweihander or Gravelord Greatsword. After the Torus Daemon, you should continue past him towards the dragon guarding the bridge. Run along the bridge (take off all your armour so that you can get max running speed) until you get to the stairwell on the right, and go down those.

Dark Souls is a game that can REALLY get you lost if you dont know anything. Try reading a game guide, sure it is a bit like "spoiling" but they exist for a reason! Well after you get through the first few parts (I'd say after ringing the first bell) if you like the weapon then feel free to kill him. Dont think theres too much you need from him afterwards

Good god, that's horrible advice. The Drake Sword is a horrible weapon from the moment you get it, and only gets exponentially worse as you go on.

The Drake Sword is better than anything you have if you're a low level newblood unless you decided to go on a grind spree as soon as you step out of the asylum From the wiki Good weapon for starters, and very low levels, because it does high damage, with low stats requirements; but will be out damaged at medium/high levels (past level 35). At that point, it's recommended to have a weapon Normal +10 (for strength and dexterity users), Divine +5 (for faith users), or Magic +5 (for intelligence users); or a Fire weapon.
So yes drop that sword once you start getting high stats and +5 or higher weapons but for a first playthrough it can do some good vs some of the initial fights

The drake sword is great for low levels but after it begins to lose effectiveness it's best to drop it...

From the wiki

You can get the Zweihander from a quick run through the graveyard (not even a suicide run if you do it right), the Gravelord Greatsword from a suicide run through the catacombs, the Claymore right in front of the Dragon, the Uchigatana from killing the merchant in the Undead Berg, and the Estoc from New Londo. All of which are solid weapons in their own right over the course of the entire game.
If you're willing to wait until you get to the undead parish (about 10 minutes after you'd get the Drake Sword anyway), you can get the Balder Side Sword from Balder Knights, and the Pike from the blacksmith. Two of the best weapons in the entire game.
The moment you gain access to the blacksmith, you have no reason to ever use the Drake Sword. Even with un-upgraded weapons, you're not missing out on much. Especially with the Zweihander and Gravelord Greatsword, which outmuscle it from the very beginning.

Come on Fafnir, stop dorking out. The OP is just starting. The Drake sword is awesome for a noob who happens to be hopelessly addicted to how difficult this game is when you first start. Not everyone starts this game with the intent of building the ultimate perfect build. How do I know this? Because I was there.
Yes, all the weapons you mention are cool. So is the drake sword. It does that power move. That's fun.

You don't need to make the perfect build to be able to use any of the weapons I listed up there. 16 strength is all you need to use the Zweihander, Gravelord Sword, and Pike (two handed, of course, but with those weapons, you'll only want to use two hands anyway). 14 dexterity is all you need to use the Estoc or Uchigatana. There are optimal builds for all of those, obviously, but you don't need one to use those weapons.
Simply put, even from the purpose of pure survival, the weapons I listed are still much better than the Drake Sword.

Yes, because a first time player will obviously know all the suicide run routes to take. The drake sword is a good beginner sword and that's about it.

The Gravelord Sword obviously wouldn't be something for a new player to go after, but the Zweihander, Estoc, Claymore and Uchigatana all require less effort to get than the Drake Sword, and aren't at all obtained through suicide runs (although getting the Claymore can be really annoying, I'll admit).

Ridiculous. Your argument is trivial to the point of being moot.
