And the skin painting guide is supposedly done, but it doesn't seem to be posted.

EDIT: And I see that was noted on the previous page. Time to get off the internet for the day.

Extremely surprised and awed that this is over four million dollars now. I expected this to do about as well as the first kickstarter but hot damn did it completely blow past everyone's expectations (including Poots', I'm sure).

The targets for the newly revealed stretch goals does bother me a bit because, as has been pointed out in this thread already, one has to assume those are restructured or were intentionally left open from the start to adjust to the Kickstarter's progress and (in such a scenario) can be assumed to be arbitrary, mostly divorced from the cost associated with the offerings on the table.

Of course, I'm eager to see what the pledges will look like. The overwhelming support for Kingdom Death shown these last two days should be rewarded and I hope everyone gets more than their money's worth. I certainly felt satisfied with the rewards I pledged for the first time around, if a little underwhelmed with how it was handled post-ks.

I'm sure Poots expected this to be a success, but I agree it wasn't meant to be to this degree. Not to even be a Poots apologetic, but he had stretch goals to 1million, and that's well below expectation. But to more than double the previous KS's success in two days blows well beyond what many expected, especially Poots. Hence I'm willing to cut him a bit of slack here. It'd be a shame if all the cool goodies got spoiled in the first day and we had a long dry spell until the final few days.

I've already mentioned that I won't be backing this simply because I can't, so I don't have a horse in this race. Discretionary spending requires extreme discretion right now. I'm following this kickstarter because I like KD and am excited to see how this turns out.

But I agree and think the Kingdom Death folks (not just Adam) were completely caught off guard. There are also costs associated with the rampant growth of the kickstarter; more rewards incurs more production, storage, and (manufacturer) shipping costs.

He has said that all the planned stretch goals they had pinned down going in are considered unlocked, they will just be revealing them over the course of the next few weeks. As for the new stretch goals: I can only imagine that they kept some as unassigned "floaters" to fill in as needed if things slowed down or such.

And while I see where the people saying "tell us everything now" are coming from and it would maker a big rush for add-ons, one of the things that really drove the first KS was the steady release of information, the excitement of coming back every day or so for something new, the next unlock and teaser - and well, yeah, with $3.5M in ~24 hours blowing through everything planned, the question becomes a trade-off between the "dump it all now" and "pace it out for engagement and excitement".

As a Gambler's Lantern backer, I look at it this way: $50 goes to my upgrade pack, $100 to the Gambler's box, meaning at least $627 of add-ons needs to be offered to break even. Adam has basically said the Gambler and Satan pledges are Black Friday specials and any last day bundles won't be as good, so I'm expecting we'll be seeing much more that $627 worth of add-ons.

ETA: Also, as I said before, it's easy to sit back and say "Of course it was gonna explode like that!" when it's not our money and sanity on the line Yeah, he knew there was enough demand for a reprint, and obvs expected to do well, but for something with a $250 buy-in, well, it's really easy for a lot of people to *say* they want it then not follow through.

At this point I would like to know what wave the Gamblers Chest is being delivered in. I'll be getting the upgrade pack regardless, but its said to show up Summer 2017, personally after the last KS, I dont want anything thats not showing up in Wave 1. A break down on that would be great, sadly does not look like we will see it for weeks... Luckily its not limited so I can just back it when its explained and if the value is there.

Which, of course, doesn't mean he shouldn't!

Because, previous to the first KS, he never made complicated plastic kits either.

So how fun is the actual game? It's hard to find actual solid feedback on whether it's worth the price, or if this is just an explosion of popularity + minis. It's like an actual meme product.

Very. But if your players expect to 'win', they're not going to like it much. It's all about the journey, and how you can get f****d-over by randomness and your own bad decisions.

A bit like if Dwarf Fortress, Dark Souls, aliens(tm) and Hero Quest had a love-child.

it's brilliant fun but it's all about the settlement rather than the individual survivors

(although they provide the fun individual stories to spark your imagination)

if you or your group get upset with your heroes dying (from random dice rolls) it's not going to be for you

also just to say while having the expansions adds to the fun the base game alone has lots and lots of replayability so if you can 'only' afford that it's still a good choice

of the existing expansions the two that offer the most difference in gameplay are the Dragon King and the Sunstalker both of which offer different settlement paths leading to different 'win' conditions (I actually prefer some of the others, but for the biggest game changes those are the ones to get)

Which are your favourite expansions and why, out of curiosity? Assuming all the expansions will be available as add ons, trying to decide which I might go with.

I like the flower knight and dung beetle knight for their whimsy and the armour you can get from them and how their stories fit together,

(plus the flower knight is my favourite KD mini of all time)

In a rough order of bang for buck IMO:

The Gorm provides another monster you can start hunting from the start of the game (different quarry monsters unlock at certain points in the campaign, the Gorm if used is available from the first full lantern year/campaign turn).

The Dragon King and Sunstalker both include alternate campaign structures and narratives, with modifications to some of the base rules and story, though they each can also just be added as advanced huntable monsters to the base campaign.

Spidcules is an early unlock huntable - not right off the bat like the Gorm, but not far behind.

Flower Knight is a kind of specialized huntable, in that it doesn't have full gear sets to grind out like most huntables, but is more of a go punch him on occasion to get his sweet drops. Also has an option to modify the base campaign, though not to the same extent as the Dragon King and Sunstalker.

Dung Beetle Knight is similar, without the campaign option but some really unique fight dynamics and gives an option to attempt to upgrade certain gear into more powerful "ossified" versions.

Slenderman and Manhunter are alternate nemesis monsters (onces that show up to attack the settlement at certain points on the TL).

Lion Knight is sort of a nemesis monster with an unfolding story it's trying to tell. It doesn't replace anything, with its fights not counting as the Hunt/showdown for the turn) and some really neat fight mechanics.

All the Knights, Slenderman, and Manhunter are roughly the same in overall value.

Lion God is a very late campaign huntable and is kinda terrifying, so def not something for beginning players.

Lonely Tree started as just a cool terrain piece that got turned into a once per campaign random encounter.

Dung Beetle Knight: Love the mini, and he's a favorite of Adam's as well so there is a lot of game content for one of the smaller expansions, so it's a great value.
Dragon King or Sunstalker: These are both huge expansions to the game which offer fundamental changes to the entire campaign. I like Dragon King a little better model and content wise, but Sunstalker is a better value in my opinion.
Flower Knight: Another amazing mini, gameplay that's a bit different but not game breaking or anything, and cheap on sale or KS.

Worth considering, but not actually a favorite:
Gorm: I really don't like this mini but it's really nice to have a another basic huntable monster. Hopefully there will be some more this time so you can skip this if you don't like the sculpt.

Thanks on the discussion of the additional pdf's, I didn't even know that they were completed. Any word on when the additional cards will be completed and the price?

Favorite monster is- The Watcher. He is one of those things like fighting a ghost. While the other enemies have in pure tangibles, The Watcher's equipment stacks improve on another level of cool. You have a good edge if you can get his armor/ equipment.

Second one was The Butcher. Because pretty much he can be a career ender, or one of the best starting hauls in the game. Keep your founding stone crits handy with this one...

Hi, coming in late. Can someone just explain to me how a game of monster rape with boutique-level resin minis made more money in 2 days than the last 3 months of board gaming and wargaming kickstarters put together, including a Cthulhu dungeon crawler and a Mantic KS? No offense.

Because it's the best gaming experience you've never had.

You could add up the quality of the last 3 months of gaming kickstarters and you'd still only be 50% as good as Kindgom Death.

I've heard it's good... but even just the market penetration is ridiculous. It has 2x the total backers of the 1st KS already in 2 days. No matter how you look at it, this is an ultra niche product in an already niche market and it's outselling major licenses like Dark Souls in a fraction of the time. And at an entry level pledge of $250. It's ridiculous.

Easy. It's called a top notch word of mouth marketing strategy for a game that is completely different. I'll put money that the excellently priced first fulfilled KS project for Monster was a big plus, even though there were some Mount Everest and Grand Canyon sized bumps in the road. I haven't seen much in the rape department, but the Hieronymus Bosch artwork and style might, additionally, be a big plus.

Another thing people are not grasping is that the project was pretty much JUST completed, and that the Lantern Festival thing was earth shattering in it's misdirection and .... "Cancelation." ( sic)

As with the first one, the generated interest has lead to a fair amount of that well worn Kickstarter hype that leads one to throw copious amounts of money at a project.

I'm on the hold what you got boat, and am going to wait till the project shows something worth the $5,000,000 dollar progress, and am honestly thanking my lucky stars that I was in on the first project when I was, leading me to not have to throw over 700+ bucks at a project.

This is a hobby where people regularly spend $100+ on 8 ounces of plastic and you think $250 for a massive game you've never played and apparently never read anything about is ridiculous?
