Hey, im hoping they come out with DoW 3 sometime in the future. Say what you would like to have in the next one, and maybe someone whos working on the game will read this and pass it on.
I want more races (current codex armies, please), especially Necrons (didnt think id say that, did ya ). but seriously, bring back base-building. that was the best part, and it was taken away. love the cover mechanics, tho, so keep that. I'll think of more stuff later.

Edit - Yeah it's semi old, my memory is getting funny. Still, there's a good index for ideas.

Well now that THQ is under im not expect another DoW anytime even remotely soon.
I liked the way everything was set up in DoW 2
However:
-Basic base building (just a few buildings like barracks, vehicle pad, and an upgrade building would work)
-A better AI, not one that ninja caps and runs away from fights
-better squad sizes (4 SMs, 5 with Sgt works perfect)
-5 factions at start (IG, SM, Chaos, the other 2 are up for debate)
-2-3 Campaigns (Order, Disorder, if a 3rd, something that doesnt fit in either like Tyranids. )
-Designed like Chaos Rising's campaign, minor RPG elements, huge story focus, unqiue feeling missions.
I cant think of anything else for more.
Also remember for anyone else, BE REASONABLE IN YOUR SUGGESTIONS.
Your game suggestions needs to be plausable in terms of actually making the game. Last time I saw this topic I saw people saying they wanted the game to have an entire section of the game like Call of Duty, a section like RTS, and a section like Mass Effect 1 and each should be over 20 hours of gameplay long and 9 races should be in it.

If they make it TW style, I want to be able to field titans on big maps. As they could utilize the Naval aspect to make Space battles ala Battlefleet Gothic. Would this be the 40K version of Star Wars: EaW?
I think that it should allow larger units/more MSS on bigger maps, while restrict number of units & size on smaller maps. They should laso bring back some maps from the earlier DoW games/expand the existing maps to TW size. Base building (some races build more buildings than others like Sm vs IG etc.) would be cool. Racial Abilities like dropping in reinforcements or an orbital Bombardment would be used late in a game to finish off an opponent or turn the tide in ones favor late in a battle.

Actually, DoW 3 was already in development and the studio has been bought in it's entirety so most likely will continue just the same, just under a different publisher.
As for things I want. Apocalypse size armies (which have already been rumored to be in). Every race.

The studio was purchased, but that doesnt mean they will retain the license. There will likely be renegotiation of terms between GW and the new owners, if they reach a consensus the project will continue but expect long delays.

It needs Tau.
DoW2 showed a lack of them. (even though the last stand Tau commander was epic)
An in all seriousness-they need to dumb it down a bit. this game, while honest to it's origin, had WAY too much i-game customization of units. this should be done either pre-game, or not at all. upgrading units mid-fight is a clunky mechanic at best.

Maybe have a looting mechanic for the ork campaign. Imagine playing as orks, wrecking a predator and looting it to be used later on. Maybe it's an ability for a mek character that can be used once a mission. I would also love tau.

Since Relic now belongs to Sega, I dont expect anything DoW related anytime soon. I enjoyed DoW 1 through Soulstorm and I hope they bring it back in the third with the same game play. DoW 2 I didn't like nearly as much as the first.

If it'd be large scale mass combat, I would like to see something like Final Liberation in real-time. It could still offer army- or even a certain level of unit customisation, but keep it out of the actual battles.
The campaign might offer some actual strategic choices regarding which territories you attack/defend when with how many forces, and include chances or risks rather than offering pre-determined "A or B" paths.
For example, attacking a factory could enable you to equip militias or upgrade your troops, but to do so you'd drain defenses from other sectors. The enemy might make a move and attack your fuel depot, or he may not do anything at all. Maybe you run into a trap. Maybe you should wait for reinforcements. Maybe waiting to long will make the enemy to surround you. Intel and recon will help getting an idea of what the enemy is up to!
For online play, something really nice would be servers (planets) with persistent regions that can be contested and conquered by the players. A sort of planetary map with hex fields, where players can garrison their units as AI defenders, or move to help out in ongoing battles. All the battles will be fought in the normal game engine, of course, the game basically "zooming in" on the fight. Units lost in combat need to be re-purchased with resources. From time to time, the server is reset and a faction is declared the victor. Various random events could "spice up" an ongoing campaign by delivering unexpected reinforcements, allow deployment behind enemy lines, or trigger bombardment.
Oh, and it should have Sisters, and/or Valhallans.
We can dream.

Anyting that keeps the overall production value as high as it was in DoW2/Chaos Rising will be ok for me.
Voice acting, sound effects, wargear descriptions, interesting maps, good storyline, interface, cutscenes etc.
Still rate those two as some of the best production values in a game of late.
You got the impression the designers actually played 40k or at least had a truely great understanding of the background/characterfullness/setting etc.

I kinda pour my heart and soul into these types of threads so bear with me: 1st, to address the "if it's ever going to happen" doomsayers, Sega bought Relic not as an act of charity, we will see another DOW soon enough because it's a cash cow. 2nd: Acknowledging the good, the bad, and the ugly ideas: - DOW3 should be a split mechanic game. Mechanics: - We would start the game in army painter and get to design a single 5 man squad from head to foot and possibly claw to spine. Everything about these characters should be customizible, down to their names. -We begin the game with the 5 man squad following the same path as DOW2. As they grow in experience, they become squad leaders advance the story and in the process we get more squads the army grows and eventually DOW1 comes back as the scale continues to increase. Eventually, Apocolaypse levels of destruction raise the bar beyond what we've seen in 40k so far. -In the skirmish modes, that original squad - and even individual members can be called upon to do special operations online, like last stand, killteam deathmatch, ect. -Lynata was right, servers should be planets that are real time conflicts and have capturable bonus's like Soul Storm and one side can eventually win. In addition, the Killteam Deathmatches and Last Stand games impact the game by having players compete over Space Hulks, Orbital Defense Systems, or even do boarding actions against enemy space borne warships to deny or enable orbital gun support over player contested zones. -This means that alliances must be formed and should probably follow strict lore - meaning that you cannot ally with anyone other than your race. Territory Control -It should also be possible to deep-strike behind enemy lines as well as other tactics, but territory control will punish players for attempting to do so. If players find themselves cut off from allies, they will no longer be able to gain resources from their alliance. Instead, they will gain limited resources (even in battle) and must be well equipped to be able to succeed in their objective or else perish horribly. - Claiming victory over a planet should give players the title: Warlord (or something similar) that unlocks special content, like being able to direct fleets to other planets and engaging war there. Base building? Hmm. How about this: -Garrisoning buildings is a must. Give us a simple map editor to design our own bases in friendly territory - when it is not under attack. The higher we are in our rank, the more resources we'd have available to alter the map. The first Tier would allow us to place miles of trenchline, bunker networks, tank traps, turrets, missile batteries and other frontline necessities - as nearly all commanders would be itching to get to the front lines to gain xp, honor, and secure resources. The second would allow a commander to level hills, burn forests, dump wastes in culverts, and otherwise alter the planet's topography to suit a defender's needs . Also, small forward bases that allow for the deployment of specialize units would be ideal for these commanders. The third level (for an Imperial Commander) would give access to a Mechanicus Mandate(or something to that ring) that would force a non-combatant population under their direct command. With enormous resources in hand, entire fortresses, manufactoriums, and agridomes are made possible - their huge scales taking up multiple squares of land on the planet - and therefore cannot be taken in a single battle. Each, a venerable stronghold in its own right, their design would be modular with built in defenses and garrisoned units that would take hours to breech on their own if a single player, even the most favored of their faction, attempted to take it on their own. They can also be reinforced and fought over (and around) by players. These complexes are essential for the war, as they'd provide the baseline requisition, and tech level for every allied player. In addition: A more complex map editor that is still easy to access would be a wonderful addition to DOW3, because it allows players to create their own game modes and maps - giving the power to players to decide which in their communities are best and most balance, and the ability to be their own watchdogs. - Taking a feather from CoH's hat, Relic should also consider implementing the technologies they say are being put into their newest game, such as weather and snow that actually affects units by slowing them down. Think that's all my brain wants to bleed out on this issue. Perhaps more later. Edit: Wow sorry for the terrible grammar and spelling, I must be a lot more tired than I realized.

Just on a side note, why the DoW2 hate? Personally I thought the game exceeded past soulstorm and Dow1 in all game styles and was more realistic.
Okay, but here I go to grumble:
-Not really much, but personally I think they should have a game interface where you can choose in the options if you want to see the battle unfolding in a cinematic style in which you can save and put onto youtube etc.
-I want the multi-player (Only ever played DoW2 Multi) to stand out, with a choosing of a few game styles.
-I want the Dark Crusade Campaign back, where there are road-blocks and surprises at every tile and where the AI reacted differently. But I also want the Topography to matter, because every time I play on a Dark Crusade map or a DOW2 map, I see this lovely scenery that could do so much, but doesn't amount to anything and it sucks IMHO
-After that I also want the same to happen with every game style and I WANT MORE MAPS and more varied maps. From small engagements on asteroids where you have to get to the enemy space station to blow it up with a handful of men to Armageddon type maps where its APOCALYPSE!!! I just want more varied maps and styles and the topography different to affect the playing style and the Tactics.
-As for the races, just a little nippick. I want the races to build, but I also want them to build more to what GW building scenery looks like, and each one is different in its technology and build, so a Space Marine army may have a Fortress of Redemption as its home base whether a Necron Army (IWANT THE MONOLITH BACK!!) May have the Underground Catacombs and the Monolith. But then I want each army to be unique in its build, like IG have terrible puny humans, but they have a bigger pop, whether the undying Necrons may have a smaller pop. I just want unique buildings or squad builds to each race (IG get Trenchline, SM get Orbital Bombardments etc.).
-I want better Battles. I hate them just standing and shooting while being mowed down when there's a bit of cover. We should be able to set them into a mode that says smart battle and where they take cover and depending on what you choose (Charge, Pskyer, Defend or Assault etc.) then that's what they do, and so you can move them as you please on manual, but if you're fighting multiple fronts at once, then you can choose that game mode.
-And one last thing before I stop rambling; I want more races based upon the Codex build, so instead of IG having fifteen troops in one squad (Annoying) you can only get what the Codex has for one squad and you can purchase them individually in the game or purchase a blob squad or a certain build with a points limit pre-game so you can have a more Powerful Guard unit in a Chimera, or a terrible blob squad of fifty men with a PCS. And you get the chance to have that Races powers (eg you can get for Tau the ability to set up a huge gunline and just blow the crap out of them before they charge, or for IG the Vox system that makes them more accurate or a Tank Mode) and also customizable characters that all depends on your preferences.
-BIGGER POP, just thought I'd add that in

I very much like DoW 2, and I still like DoW 1, however, the biggest flaw DoW 2 suffered from is simple, no FFA Annihilation. I don't want to capture stuff, I just want a huge map with a bunch of starting locations so me and my lan buddies can sit around playing it for hours scheming and plotting against each other.

I liked DOW a lot and it was my first major introduction to the 40k universe, so it's a very special game for me but gameplay-wise, I like DOW2 a lot more.
I would like a more squad-focused game like DoW2 instead of building bases and creating huge armies. Because of this squad-base gameplay the online was amazing. I created my units and had to treat them with extreme care, making sure I wouldn't be wiped out because of a silly mistake or else it would be a major handicap. With DoW1 gameplay it would just be "SEND IN THE SECOND WAVE". Oh, and since it's squad bases, it means NO base-rush. How I love a RTS with NO base-rush. Just tactics with units.
I would love Tau and Necrons. I had a blast playing with the Tau Commander in the "survival" mode.
A campaign like Chaos Rising. The first one was good, the CR one was AWESOME but the last one was so meh.
The idea of servers as planets is genious! That would be a major incentive for online play.

I'd say more specialized chapters/Legions (in terms of chaos and the space marines..for example no plauge marines or Zerkers for the alpha legion)..and the same should go for the other factions as well other wise whats so unique about them in the first place?.
Also a better campaign would be good as well, pretty much like Draconic lord said lol. I would also like to see each army act different on the battlefield depending on the opponent, like for example Da vs chaos would give DA oh mabey stuborn or hunt for the fallen where as Da vs Tau would not give them those traits and so on.

I want 40k the tabletop game, but on my computer. Complete with full customization, all the current codices etc. Turn based, the works...
But since we won't be getting that I'll settle for more of DoW 2, hopefully with some cool new units, bigger maps and battles and some proper animations for the voice acting etc.
