I am new at this so maybe I missed stuff when I searched. Besides the basic warrior acolyte guys (who can just look like Imperial Guard guys) how do you guys make your henchmen? Servitors, Psykers, Mystics, stuff like that.

Servitors have existing models in the range.
Psykers have existing models, although a lot of people use Cadian and Flagellant bits together.
Mystics can be practically anything, but again the Flagellant box is a godsend for kitbashing.

I didn't know what those were so I looked them up. Non-40k Warhammer bits. Good idea!

I agree, the exsiting psyker models look terrible

Eldar and dark eldar parts can be good for DCA.

Yeah, Wyches + Bits box weapons make great DCA.

Bretonnian Men-at-arms can make great Crusaders.

Probably work

I use mostly imperial guard and flagellants for flak armor acolytes.

I've got some wargames factory greatcoats for carapace armor acolytes.

Most other things already have models, arguably terrible they might be.

Is there anywhere I should look in warhammer fantasy for robed and cloaked figures? I'd like to have my psykers and mystics look like druids or monks or something.

I don't really know about the fantasy figures at all, hopefully this isn't a stupid question.

High elf archers plus flagellants for arms/heads?

Those guys look pretty good!

I came across Skaven Plague Monks which look appropriately druidy and monky, but they have crazy rat faces. Do any of you know how or if guardman size heads would fit on a skaven monk model?

Also, are there bits out there of hooded heads?

There's a plastic Wood Elf unit that has great hooded heads, but I can't remember it for the life of me.

Cool thanks.

What about 'Night Goblins'? Are they really tiny, too tiny for a guardsmen sized figure?

Yeah, they're really tiny. The wood elf glade guard I think it is has some nice hooded heads. Skaven are pretty small too, I'd go for some class of elf instead for a hooded look.

After reading about the skaven idea you have it brought to mind a coversion I made as a henchman with plasma cannon, you can use skaven and greenstuff hoods and lenses.
Edit: sry zabout the other pics the pics are together.

I love the greatsword guy! Is he from the old greatsword box, or an old character model? And that is a Tau drone used for a shield, right?

@SuperNewb: You are really open as to which miniatures to use for henchmen but the canonical look is that of Warhammer Fantasy Empire (and Bretonia) "teched up". So any (late) Middle-age / Renaissance /Monastic miniature could fit.
One of my thousand (most of them never to be realized) mini projects is a 28mm Inquisitor gang for INQ28, and I have Confrontation Griffon minis, some Reaper Warlord Paladin minis, Empire flagellants (of course), militia, some Kasrkin, an old psyker model, a Cadian commander, some Ilyad Game Inquisitors in that box, and of course, the spanish Inquisition of Victoria Miniatures. Álthough the metal acolytes from GW are some of my favorite GW minis ever.

Just google "INQ28" and you will find lots of awesome conversions.

treslibras, great site, great resource. Thanks!

Question for everyone - I see that the GW site has other figures for 'specialist games' which I have never heard of before. Could I use the figures from Necromunda or 'Mordheim' in 40k? Would they be the right size? And what the heck are the models made out of?

Probably work

You'd think gold from the prices, but they're just pewter. I believe Necromunda actually exists in the 40k universe, so using them would be completely appropriate. I have a single Mordheim character and he's for my D&D game. I think they're roughly the same scale as fantasy.

Necromunda is a Hive world in the 40K universe. Mordheim is on the world of Fantasy Battle, but the figures still have the same "grimdarkitude" to mesh into 40K.

Not to reply with nothing but a link, but I think that lexicanum will explain it easier than we could:

If this is your first introduction to lexicanum, I apologize for the loss in productivity you'll suffer.

EDIT: Links are hard today.

LOL. I see I'll have a place to waste a lot of time.

One more thing, because I haven't seen Skaven out 'in the wild' out in reality. Are they really that much tinier than guardsman? I like their cloaks a lot better than anything else from warhammer fantasy, they look a lot more like monks than any of the elf stuff.

If you want further inspiration, might I suggest browsing trough recent issues of White Dwarf? The past few monthlys have featured articles titled 'Blanchitsu' which all showed example henchmen conversions... Some were very basic but a few are quite inspired.

I used High elf archer legs and guardsmen chest/arms/heads to make my psykers, wood elf archers with two weapons instead of bows look like Assassin's creed type assassins for DCA, especially if painted red/black/white. I use plastic chaos warriors with combat shields to represent my crusaders, everyone says they look amazing, they match up with the likes of Coteaz perfectly. Standard guards men for acolytes, and for mystics, I used my old Inquisitorial henchmen that look like angels. Used to get one the Coteaz box set.
