With Arkham that would be a minimum of 6 to 8 before you even add the dice.

I'm sorry, but 800 points spent on magic is simply unacceptably high in a 2k game. You may have a great magic phase, but I'm unconvinced that you'll have anything else going for you. What happens if Arkhan bites it due to a feedback scroll? How about if you play Dwarves, or simply someone who rolls good on his dispel dice? I know that TK need magic to buff them, but they also need an army to be buffed.

For me, the army needs to be treated as one that wins games with solid units backed up by magic, not as an army that wins with magic. That suggests that spending nearly 40% of your points allowance simply to get a good magic phase is the wrong approach.

You're right it is pretty high, however I did very well at the event with the list. Coming in the upper 25% over 5 games as TK is tough. I had tough matchups against great generals the whole time. Had I not gone against mournfang spam last round. I may have cracked the top 10. Arkhan is not likely to bite it to a feedback scroll, due to the hierotitan I never through more than 4 dice at a spell. And several magic phases I ran out of spells to cast. I like running into dwarves, as it likely gets me 3 free power dice each magic phase through the praipit. Just hope ro roll 7 or less for winds to limit his dispel dice and max mine out 3 free + casket. The army that scares me is light on characters as that doesn't leave arkhan much to do after they've been smoked.

Often times I take a Level 4 Liche with Death and a Level 2. I have had some trouble with magic. The main problem I have usually a solid all comers list at like 2000pts to accompany the magic. I have considered Arkhan and usually take a casket.

I will say though that 800+ points is quite high. Though the magic takes a lot to help the other units, and obviously investing more can be good.

That is 560 minimum, as you need to have a Nehekharan Heirophant.

Yeah this is where trouble comes, when a Casket is added, as well as strong numbers of special units to utilize the magic.

I was looking at for my magic
2x level 4
Casket
Hierotitan

Keep kit minimal. Good number of points but solid for a 2500. Was thinking Nehru and light. Also thinking khatep instead of a level 4 and running double Nehek.

I've just started experimenting with Khatep. Personally, I tend to roll really badly for magic dice, so having that reroll on hand is very mentally pleasing. Loremaster is also good just for the spell selection. I normally never take Skullstorm, but in that last game I fired one straight through my own snakes to nearly wipe out a unit of Hexwraiths that were pinning them in melee, which isn't bad.

I do agree that the casket + hierotitan combination would be strong, but I don't think that I'd try it below 2400. Do you not find that the focus upon Death snipes, rather than buffing your own units, limits the ability to make your units shine?

TK seem to be the most dependable shooting army in fantasy, they almost always hit on a 5+ with the exception of miasma that makes them hit on a 6+.

They also have the ability to augment their shooting either through increasing the amount via magic, or decreases their opponents defenses(via magic)

Not quite death makes shooting better in 3 ways.

1) eliminate bsb turn 1. That is the first barrier to cross.
2) eliminate general
3) use soulblight bubble + smiting bubble watch panic occur.

or if they got Khalida, then 4's.

Surprised only 1 guy (thundering and his great post) mentioned Khalida, and it was just in passing. As little as Khalida is ran, probably b/c players tend to prefer to spend their Lord pts elsewhere, her lists are quite revered. A block of 80+ Archers w/ poison shots who hit on 4's always? I'll take that any day. ...unless I wanted 2 lvl4's >_>
