Frenzying unit is on left side of 5x2 skirmishing formation (skinks)

Frenzying chargers are within 16" of the skinks (move 4"+ 2d6" can reach) and fail their LD-test and have to charge.
As response Skirmishers stand ground and form ranks making the distance between them and chargers over 16" inches and thus too far to reach with dice roll.

Do chargers:
a) Fail charge, due being too far from target.
b) Don't have to charge at all, as they're not in the charge-range.
c) Roll charge against the original distance (less than 16").

The order is as follows.

1) Declare Charge(or fail Frenzy)

2) Declare Charge reaction(skirmishers shrink)

3) check range needed to be successful and roll the charge dice.

As they shrink before the charge, the charge would be impossable and would not need to be declared or tested for Frenzy.

You sure about that?

Shrinking happens on the same phase as the flee-reaction, which doesn't cancel charges for being out of range.

How about same situation, but with both ranges (less than 16", more than 16") being on range of the charging unit.

Would you need to roll total of 16" or 17" to reach them?

I thought that, once you measure the distance, if you roll high enough you are in.

You measure once, not twice

Yeah, but you roll after the charge reaction which is when the Skirmishers shrink.

Yet you measure before they shrink. You roll against value N, which is what you have to reach. Their subsequent alteration of formation does not alter N. Only if they flee do you now have to reach N+Y, where Y is their flee distance if you want to catch them

BRB, page 17 - "If skirmishers declare a charge (or a charge reaction that does not involve fleeing) they immediately tighten their loose formation into a 'normal' formation BEFORE the charge distance is rolled."
Charge reactions happen before calculating the charge distance, which in turn is done before measuring the charge range (BRB says to roll distance, then measure - p. 19).
It looks to me that in this case, you'd have an impossible charge once they collapsed.
You do NOT measure the range before they shrink.

You do have to measure for one purpose:
page 16: Can I charge? - paragraph.
A unit cannot declare an impossible charge - i.e. one that it cannot possibly complete...

According to RAW the declare of charge happen before the skirmish formation tighten up so the charge just auto fail after you declare charge if the skirmisher shrink their formation outside of your possible charge range. It doesn't constitute at impossible charge when you are 'declaring' since there are still models in your charge range. You can measure anything anytime but the distance to successfully charge just change because of the shrinking so you just fail automatically.
