So does anyone else feel that when you have painted minis you get better dice rolls than you would if if they're unpainted? lol That's certainly been the case for me...

Painted armies always win even when they lose, I know people worry about there level of skill but even a poor paint job is better than bare plastic.

I feel like it also depends on the person and the unit. I snapshot my Heavy stubber last night rolling 2 6's and then 2 5's to wound...I proceeded to then roll two 1's for armor saves (playing myself) and was so confused at the dice gods. I might have to leave that cultist unpainted. On the other hand my chosen rolled terrible obviously showing that they need to be painted to actually have combat prowess

I Agree with this.

I have my army painted, and rarely field a model without at least having the basecoat done. But I don't see any difference in my rolling one way or another.

I like to say I have two armies: Necrons, and Imperium.....

Could be, could be. I've been on a hot streak the last few weeks, which coincides nicely with my latest push to get my army painted. Hmmmm...

If nothing else, my store has a lot of lookie-loos, so if I'm playing a game against an army with an incomplete or inferior paint job, I feel like that's going to be the most important aspect to a bystander who knows nothing about the game, and they're going to assume I'm better.

Nope...paint on the minis doesn't change the statistics of rolling at all. I've had fully painted characters killed by grots and basecoated only characters fighting units of 10 sisters repentia and not being hurt at all. It is all in your head.

Of course it doesn't matter but I've already heard the following:

1. Proxies will never win against actual minis.
2. Unpainted will never win against painted.
3. Rule of cool trumps rule of crunch.

Belief in things might be a factor in gaming psychology after all.

Not sure if painted wins more or not, but there is an unwritten rule in my group that the first game out with a newly painted mini it will die no matter what you do to try and keep it safe.

I've had the opposite experience. Every time I get a character or unit freshly painted they roll unbelievably poorly.

It's gotten to the point where I play newly finished models more conservatively than I normally would.

As for the "cool beats crunch" rule that's obviously because the human mind wants to remember the good times and so you subconsciously decide that you want your lone grot to charge the greater Daemon and when it actually works you completely forget the times it didn't work unless you really think about it

I agree with it full heartedly! My gaming buddies have jokenly referred to having more painted models as "cheating" after some good die rolls!

I've heard this before, but really the "Win" for having painted minis is compliments on your army and the pay off of investment in time in completing said army. For example ran a 1500 point sisters vs. SM game. We shook hands on turn 5 because I simply didn't have the anti-tank to fight him off properly (dear GW are rocket launchers really that bad a thing?) but I played decently and a lot of people thought my seraphim conversions were epic.

Painted armies automatically add 'Success' to their dice rolls. This means if a certain roll or outcome is required a painted unit will get it, an unpainted one will not.

Also well converted but unpainted models enjoy 'Semi-Success' on the whole they will generally succeed but in truly dire situations the fickle ghost of luck will flee to bully Casper for a while until their next game.

One of my favorite tactics is taking teleportation beacons and deepstriking my Librarian and his Terminator bros everywhere. Unfortunately, only my Librarian is fully painted.

Once, I landed in an Imperial Guard-flavored hornet's nest. A big threat suddenly appeared next to the enemy, so all they focused all their fire on the poor defenceless Terminators. Luckily they couldn't shoot for nurglechunks, so I only ended up taking about eight wounds, five from lasgun fire and three from plasma/meltaguns, taking the lasguns first.
Since you Deepstrike in a ring, I rolled the first two armor saves. Snake eyes. Look out, Sir! Three more ones, killing the other three Terminators behind the Librarian.
With a sigh and a heavy heart I roll for the Librarian. Lo and behold, THREE SIXES‽

So in my limited experience, yes, painted models do somehow get better luck.

This. In my local area I probably field the most and best painted minis (which is sad really). I also never win, competitive or casual.

It's the exact opposite for me. The more paint that goes onto my miniatures, the worse that they perform. My fully painted Leman Russes can't kill their way out of a paper bag, but my unpainted Chimera one-shotted a Nurgle Plaguegrinder Forgeworld thing from the back with its multi-laser.
