I was considering starting up a website that will sell used miniatures for 60% of retail. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in a website like this. Comprehensive pictures and such. I will be focusing on 40k stuff but it will extend to some of the other main board games. What do you all think?

You'd have a hard time convincing people that it isn't some sort of scam, I think.

Where are you going to get used miniatures from? Sounds like an E-bay business to me.

Lots of work and the margins probably blow. You want to sell them for 60% of MSRP? Have fun trying to buy them at 30% MSRP to turn a profit.

It would be mostly purchasing them off cragslist or form other trade sites. After that I would provide comprehensive pictures and sell them for a 60% MSRP. It would be a hobby so profit margin can be low.

Would you be interested in a service like that if it was proven to be legitimate?

Then I saw you said USED mini's, and I was like "Okay, that could work". I mean, I would love to buy my stuff at 60% off but I would be a bit concerned about how you would be able to keep a reasonable stock at any given time. If you can make it work, then you got me as a customer if I see something I like

Inventory will be limited at first but I plan on spending profits on expanding the inventory. If anyone is good at creating logos I would really appreciate the help with creating a main website logo. I couldn't pay you now, but I can try to throw you something in the future as a thank you.

If it were something that I could get from my local game store, then I would buy there, even if it cost more. (I am a big supporter of 'pay where you play.' If I don't, then someday I may not HAVE a place to play!) If, however, you had models that were no longer available (and let's face it, for 40k, there are a lot of those!) as well as used models from 3rd party manufacturers, then I would definitely be interested! And at 60%? A steal!

I will hopefully be getting the full website up soon. Does anyone know a good way to put a forum under a tab. Like how to write the HTML code for it. I want to have a general wargamming discussion area on the forum because if the hobby isn't fun, who will play it.

@Jimsolo I admire what you do with the buy where you play thing and I do the same thing. There isn't a single time where I will go to my local GW store and not by anything. I lost my primary store when it closed down due to lack of business and I know how rough that can be.

To clear stuff up, I will not be able to sell everything GW or for any wargamming company. This will just be stuff I was able to pick up form local sellers and some people who might ship elsewhere. I am not here to make a profit on it and all proceeds form sells will go back into expanding inventory and hopefully being able to include GW product(its a long process with them.)

If you had a store site I would definitely check it out on a regular basis.

Sometimes. Some people on EBay don't get the concept at all and infect others with unreasonable prices. Always annoying to see open and assembled models being put up for 90% of retail. Not to mention the $250 battleforce sellers. People forget that eBay = cheap, otherwise we'll just buy from Amazon for ship speed and security.

A site with reasonably priced models that you don't have to try to snipe in the last 10 seconds would be fine.

Unfortunately they don't keep a price list online. Inconvenient, especially when I can use Amazon and EBay to get 20% off on most things. Convenience sometimes is worth the extra expense, instead of having to chase around just to get a price list.

I just don't see why this is better than Buy It Now on eBay.

Ebay isn't a guaranteed 40% discount from MSRP, that's why.

Because Ebay takes a cut of the profit..........

I just wonder how you are going to get a steady stream of used miniatures. Like someone said you are going to have to find a stream of miniatures selling for 30-40% of retail to make this profitable, so why would these people not sell the miniatures themselves on ebay, Dakka etc.

I mean if you can find enough stupid people on the open market selling miniatures for ~30% MSRP that you can resell more power to you.

Go to the GW part of the website and e-mail them it takes five minutes at most.

I'd definitely be interested if the shipping to Australia was decent enough.

I think it's a great idea, pretty sure I lost a few braincells reading the dribble from the ebay crowd though.

Well, it is up and set up. I will be adding the starting product tomorrow. If all goes well I will be able to have GW product as well but it will be in the same fashion of the war store. The work around for that is that you take the plastic wrap off the box and you can post online since it is technically "used."

The hard part is getting a business account with GW, and they charge companies 55% retail. I have looked into it already. If i did GW products i would sell them for around 75% retail to 70% but I'd have to order what you wanted from GW then ship it to you so delay would be longer. But you could save a bundle on large orders.
