Just thought I'd start this thread, it'll be a good read later on as the posts pile up. I thought I'd ask:
What armies were pitted against each other?
What were your (in game) objectives? What were your opponent's (in game) objectives?
Did you win or lose?
Any Awesome moments?
Any unlucky moments?
Did you learn anything?
I can't say anything, as the last infinity game I've had was years ago, but I'm hoping to get the chance to play again soon!

My last game was ordinary, because I think my brother threw the game. Second last game was more fun (especially due to how we screwed up the ARO system).
What armies were pitted against each other?
Haqqislam and Yu Jing. I can't remember the exact lists, but they came out to about 120pts each.
What were your objectives? What were your opponents objectives?
To learn? We were just doing some games to figure out the mechanics.
Did you win or lose?
Lost.
Any Awesome moments?
My last Ghulam killing a Domaru Butai. In CC.
Any unlucky moments?
My Al Hawwa Sniper getting killed by reactionary fire from a Keisotu Butai in cover. 4 times in a row. While my doctor frantically kept it up.
Did you learn anything?
That we misinterperated the ARO system.
Also that it's fething stupid having two models meant to be back to back covering each other, but having one facing the wall. I won't do that again.

What armies were pitted against each other?
PanO starter v JSA starter. Demo game to get a guy interested. He seemed sold. He played the JSA because ninja-dude. Dude! Ninja!
What were your (in game) objectives? What were your opponent's (in game) objectives?
Played with a TaOS card set. Can't recall what the objectives were, tbh.
Did you win or lose?
I won - now this was a demo game, so I don't consider it a "victory" as such. My opponent had fun even though he lost, so that was the victory. He saw the complexity that the game has, and the 80s action movie vibe.
Any Awesome moments?
Rolling a crit to-hit with a combi-rifle fusilier v the oniwaban, at 21", whilst it was also in cover (-9) after the oniwaban cut down my croc man in CC. Needed 3s. He attempted to dodge. My 3 beat his 10. Had I rolled a '2' or less, he would have dodged out of LoF, recamo'd and continued his killing spree.
Any unlucky moments?
Failing an armour save with an ORC in cover v a combi rifle. TWICE.
Did you learn anything?
The only good cover is TOTAL COVER. If you can't be seen, you can't be shot.
I usually get a game at least once a fortnight. I'm also running my club's infinity campaign.

What armies were pitted against each other?
I don't think we used specific factions, we just grabbed some line infantry stats and used some IG models to try out the rules.
What were your (in game) objectives? What were your opponent's (in game) objectives?
Kill stuff. We succeeded.
Did you win or lose?
No idea.
Any Awesome moments?
Getting to the end of turn one and realising that we both had a single figure each left on the table.
Any unlucky moments?
Getting to the end of turn one and realising that we both had a single figure each left on the table.

What armies were pitted against each other?
My vanilla Yu Jing vs. Haqq
What were your (in game) objectives? What were your opponent's (in game) objectives?
It was an Adepticon primer... objective was to destroy flag in opponent's zone. The scenario had hazardous environment rules in effect.
Did you win or lose?
I won... kind of.
Any Awesome moments?
The awesome moments were whenever my opponent shot one of my guys he would inevitably trigger the hazardous environment rules and have to take an armor check. In this way he lost 6 of 9 troops, including a full five man link team.
Any unlucky moments?
In the process of losing his link team he killed two of my HI troops with HMGs with crits...
Did you learn anything?
I need to deploy better and to be more cautious when I have the advantage. tried pressing late in the game to get the objective and ended up losing my Hisen. Still won but the weather did most of the work.

Anihilation
Did you win or lose?
Lose, with honor.
Any Awesome moments?
A Yaogat with Sniper Rifle succeed at almost all face toi face rolls during the first turn. That was more than luck, that was magic!
Any unlucky moments?
I was the one trying to kill the damn Yaogat. My 5 Morat Fireteam with HMG against the Yaogat... 5 dice agains 1 and the Yaogat won 7 times, against Fireteam HMG and another HMG...
Did you learn anything?

What armies were pitted against each other?
3 player FFA - Imperial Service Sect (Hsien link team), Morat Aggression Sect (Yogat Link team), Nomads (All 3+ armor with 4 HI)
What were your (in game) objectives? What were your opponent's (in game) objectives?
Using a slightly modified YAMS with 2 crates and 2 civvies
Did you win or lose?
I lost badly. The morats pushed my right flank killing both my Mobile Brigada and the Hsiens killed off my Sin-Eater sniper and REM while denying me objectives.
Any Awesome moments?
A managed to rescue the civvie while she dodged about 12 incoming shots. That civvie was highly motivated to run.
Any unlucky moments?
Both my shots from the riot girl Blitzen were shrugged off by a Suryat HMG and one of them was even a normal roll :(
Did you learn anything?
If you deploy first in a 3 way match, hide like a mofo and don't make yourself a target lol. Also, I think I prefer the Multi-rifle to the Blitzen Riot Grrl.

Just realised that I misread the thread title.
Trying again with the last game played...
What armies were pitted against each other?
My Nomads against MRRF.
What were your (in game) objectives? What were your opponent's (in game) objectives?
Paradiso 103 (table quarters, two Combat Groups and a big pile-up in the middle.
Did you win or lose?
Lost.
Any Awesome moments?
My Sin-Eater with HMG making every save he needed to and gunning down anyone who dared move into sight.
Any unlucky moments?
Losing my Reaction Zond to the first Order of the game.
Did you learn anything?
I hate the potential opposite-corners deployment of mission 103. :(

What armies were pitted against each other?
PanO vs. Ariadna
What were your (in game) objectives? What were your opponent's (in game) objectives?
Some mysterious crate we had to go rummage in. Killing the leader, and having people in the other's DZ.
Did you win or lose?
Lost. Quite solidly.
Any Awesome moments?
Frying a Chasseur with my TAG's Heavy Flamer during an ARO.
Having a Tankhunter be just in range of my boarding shotgun. I love templates.
Any unlucky moments?
Losing a Fusilier first turn to a fall and failed Doctor roll. Getting my TAG shot to pieces before it ever did anything significant. Getting my sniper shot and having to leave it on the roof, bleeding to death.
Did you learn anything?
Intervening terrain and cover are not the same thing. Having 11 models suck. It's 10 or 16. I need more heavy weapons. Although on paper the dude with the combi-rifle can down a TAG, the more you roll dice, the better your chances are.

Well got creamed twice Yesterday!
We tried playing Mission 101 from the book. He got first turn. Rolled his link team right up to the Alein Tech. Rolled the 1-4 to determine it was the right thing! Then immediately made the roll to transmit the information.
Any Awesome moments?
Hsien making a bunch of armor saves. Unfortunately he was the only one.
Any unlucky moments?
Do I have to pick just one?
Did you learn anything?
Both games I went second. Both times I had guys positioned as if I was going first! I could not do ANY ARO's on the first turn! I should have had guys out and ready to nail him as soon as he moved from cover in the first turn. I did the same stupid move the second time! What i learned is don't put your guys in total cover if you are going second. I can't react to things If I can't see them!

Did you win or lose?
lost, i dont think it was possible to lose more
Any Awesome moments?
none for me, nomad player had a few, crit with combi rifle at extreme range which downed one of my metors with HMG
Any unlucky moments?
my Paramedic succeeded in killing 3 of the 5 members of his own link team, Loup Garou failing with his flash grenade ARO that would have saved him and my whole link team.
Did you learn anything?
40k terrain really does not make for good infinity terrain, way to much high ground (city fight buildings) which means there was nowhere to hide and it was really hard to advance without getting shot to pieces. once i had lost all my long range weaponry i was screwed

This is very important. This should be a sticky, by itself, as 'ALL NEW PLAYERS READ THIS'.
However, it's not having too much high ground that affects Infinity - Infinity is great with high ground. What 40k terrain lacks is scatter terrain, simply due to the nature of the game - having lots of little bits of terrain everywhere in 40k just means more difficult terrain rolls. Having big LoS blocking buildings with multiple levels is fantastic for Infinity, what you need is the little bits around the place to grab cover at while advancing. Road dividers, billboards, phone boxes, benches, anything that an Infantry model might be able to hide behind.

Yeah i totally agree, 40k terrain also tends to have a lot of windows meaning that you can draw some rediculous lines of site. we agreed beforehand that we could not shoot through a lot of those windows which minimised that problem. Infinity is good with high ground, but not that much. we easily had 8-9 two or more story buildings which mean that there was no total cover to be found at ground level, on a 4x4 ft table that is rediculous.

William Gibson was particularly wrong about the future on this point, unfortunately. I love his stuff, just reread the cyberpunk trilogy, but cell phones were not on his radar at that time.
It always mystified me why the Matrix didn't allow people to use their cells to get out of it, but you needed a payphone.

i dont think you needed a payphone, i think you just needed a landline. Also the matrix was in 1999 and they didnt really have the mobile phone or the wifi technology that we do today

Mathieu Raymond wrote:It always mystified me why the Matrix didn't allow people to use their cells to get out of it, but you needed a payphone. It was about having a hardline connection to the Matrix, a static entry and exit point. Not about convenience, but security. That's why there was such a big deal in the ambush scene with them 'cutting the hardline', and near the end where the payphones handset was destroyed. Whether or not Gibson knew about cell phones or not, payphones are pretty ingrained in sci fi these days. There's always poor people looking to make a call that an't afford the iPhone 67812 frontal lobe model.

What armies were pitted against each other?
My Ariadna (vanilla) vs Shasvastii: 300pts a side
What were your (in game) objectives? What were your opponent's (in game) objectives?
My opponent just got his shiny new Sphinx, his objective was to try it out, my objective was to find and destroy it (To see if low-tech Ariadna could!)
Did you win or lose?
Points wise - massive loss, objective wise: WIN!
Any Awesome moments?
My 8pt Metro crit-hit to take out the Sphinx's last wound. Doctor Death legging it all the way to unconscious SAS trooper to stab him in the heart. Doctor Death got a crit on the Sphinx too.
When the skulking Sphinx finally reared its head, it took out over 100pts of troops in 2 or 3 orders ( Veteran Kazak burned to death, 2 Loup Garous went down to the spitfire, as did Doctor Death) Toasty!
Any unlucky moments?
I was facing 4 TO camo markers to begin with, but whittled it down to 2 markers when my Tankhunter w/Autocannon managed to spot the 3rd one with a good roll. Turned out to be a 3rd Noctifier with a spitfire. One ARO later and I lost my best weapon against the blasted Sphinx!
One TO Camo marker moved into cover, behind a MAS Holo ad, a plucky Chasseur mined the entire area around it, effectively immobilising it! One unhappy Noctifier right there
Did you learn anything?
Saying 'Go Doctor Death' before shooting is good. Go Doctor Death when making WIP heals, not so good.
Ariadna CAN handle TO Camo, not as well as other high-tech factions but roll enough dice and force your opponent to choose whether to count on the protection of camo or make an ARO.
Rifles are viable weapons still.
Challenge missions are cool, and allow you to try stuff out to either a) see if you can deal with the challenge situation (How do you deal with a Sphinx?) b)Try out different load outs that ordinarily you wouldn't.

Great point about needing lots of small terrain pieces, as well as the large LOS covering ones. Of course there is always the chance your guys will get pinned behind one (recent game for me was a unit stuck behind a box of Atari 2600 Combat Cartridges, with an HMG using sustained fire over the top of it) - but they do help you move your units, and at least give you a chance if you are shot at!
-Loki- wrote:If sci fi movies have taught me anything, it's that payphones will always be needed.
There are some really wonderful little battlefield accessories you can get, that add both practical elements to the game in terms of cover, but also help notch up the believability a bit - you guys obviously haven't read about the scientific discovery in 2024 that anyone using a mobile phone for more than 5 minutes in there life will eventually have their brain sprout tentacles, a mutation caused by the electromagnetic waves, leading to a ban on their use and the re-introduction of the pay phone
Would recommend Antenociti's Workshop and Ainsty Castings for this kind of thing.

What armies were pitted against each other?
It was an introductory (four models each) Nomads VS Ariandia.
What were your (in game) objectives? What were your opponent's (in game) objectives?
I wanted to introduce my friend to the game.
Did you win or lose?
I lost, but it was still pretty fun.
Any Awesome moments?
My foxtrot ranger huddled up in the corner of the board and made a dramatic last stand.
Any unlucky moments?
He airdropped a model right behind my frontline and proceded to wreck face.
Did you learn anything?
The element of surprise matters way more than the stats on the figures. My front line died because they had no one to ARO back at his combat jumper, as they were all facing his advancing units. Still, it was quick, brutal, and fun to learn with.

What were your (in game) objectives? What were your opponent's (in game) objectives?
Had 5 items of Intel. Required a Short Skill and unmodded WIP test to aquire! Who ever had most at end of turn 4 wins!
Did you win or lose?
I Won! 3 - 2!
Any Awesome moments?
My Hac Tao popped up a convenient ladder (Thanks Harry for making those! ) and popped off a Missile to take out his TO'd sniper!
Harry got revenge though after his AD dude (I don't know CA) dropped in behind and took out the Hac Tao! (Harry even took a pic of this! )
Game came down to turn 4 and upto each of our Lt's to do a runner and grab some Intel! (Fortunately, there wasn't much left able to take pot shots!)
Any unlucky moments?

What armies were pitted against each other?
Airadina VS Yu-Jing! 300 points!
What were your (in game) objectives? What were your opponent's (in game) objectives?
Destroy the opposing forces
Did you win or lose?
I won. I just stomped face. I basically hit my opponent with everything at once, including a Werewolf, MUL artillery, and a paracommando. The Loup-Garous and Metros didn't even have to leave my deployment.
Any Awesome moments?
Lets see. . . Durok parachuted in, ate a robot in hand to hand, and then sprayed down two troops in my opponent's backfield before biting the dust to a spitfire's ARO. He tallied up 90 points and cut my opponent's orders by three. I guess you could say my opponent got Du rocked.
I got to use the little tractor MUL for the first time, It was glorious. and It claimed a few of his models as well.
My para commando HMG parachuted in from the opposite board edge and cleaned up with an HMG.
Any unlucky moments?
None. I kinda stomped face. I guess Durock eating it in an ARO, but that was because I was a derp and didn't put him into cover to fire. So the blame is on me, not the dice.
Did you learn anything?
I learned how to forward observe and the call in the artillery.
Why get in LOS when you can speculative fire with a grenade launcher at BS 14? Morgot is practically a sniper with that thing. Also: Durock rocks.

Lost :(
Any Awesome moments?
- I glued a Skiavoros Sepsitor to a wall with my hellcat. His first order he goofed and moved a dual flammer bot right in front of it, my Hellcat went down in flames but not before landing a shotgun into the bot and his glued buddy behind it for the double kill.
- A Reaktion zond mowed down a triple his points worth and was recovered from unconscious twice.
Any unlucky moments?
- A plasma Skiavoros (he had +1 AVA Skiavoros), who might I add was his last model standing, single handed kill or Immobilized a Lunokhod, Tsyklon, Gecko, and Intruder in an epic last stand to win the match. Sooo worth the loss lol.

Played two games against Ironbovin tonight.
Both were PanO against Ariadna. A 300 pts match and a 200 pts match.
First game was over by turn one, as he literally wiped the board with the Mirage Team. I had an ORC a Nisse sniper, A Croc-Man sniper and my two Auxilia teams left after they had gone through a Jotum, Machinist, and my three Fusiliers(Lt. included). It could have gone on, but since I had to spend turn 2 finding a new Lt, he could have gone on trampling through my force willy-nilly, so I called it.
Second game, I proposed that one of our basic troops was armed with D-charges and had to place them on a statue and detonate them. He sent his Mirage dog-warrior-of-toothy-doom down a line of rooftops and then killed, in two turns, an Auxilia team, a Bagh-Mari, a Fusilier. I nominated another Lt, he charged my Lt and D-charge dude, turned them into chunky salsa while getting himself killed, then shuffled his guys around the objective. My Swiss guard had to move towards the objective as well to deny, then got himself wasted under the weight of fire.
I realized one thing when we debriefed after the game. I never got to fire once. ARO don't really count, I never fired once with a full Burst. He's good.
