Subject: Imotekhs lightning and cover?

Hi there,
It's really not clear to me how the lightning should be treated when it comes down to cover, the FAQ only states that units cannot benefit from the stealth or shrouded from night fighting. Example, a unit behind an aegis defence line, would they get cover, or not? I would say not, since they are hit by a freakin lightning bolt that throws itself from above, but since 40k isn't at all the most logical game, who knows what might be the rule.
Pls help me out here, I tried searching the threads, but there were too many and most dealt about flyers... Automatically Appended Next Post: I've googled it and it seems dakkadakka had an Question and Answer about it stating : Yes, as if they were hit by a vehicle that explodes, only getting cover if they would be in area terrain and ... so now I have to figure out how those rules precisly work...

I would think there would be no cover save at all, as it states that they are simply 'struck' by it.

Likely you would have to treat it as either a shooting attack from imotekh that doesn't require los or as a damaging ability that follows the rules for random allocation, likely the latter as it is the simplest resolution of the problem.
If the former, cover is as normal, if the latter cover is area terrain only.

The way I always play it with my friend is that we treat it like a barrage attack. No ADL cover, but area terrain is fine. Unless you're under a building, in which case you won't get hit.
Probably not the right way, but we've found it to work pretty well.

I agree with are terrain or jink saves, cumulative with stealth shrouding if the unit has any besides night fighting

thx was very helpful, I think treating it as a barrage will probably be the best!

if you are in a building you are not hit. That is certain, you arent actually on the table. Just like a squad in a rhino isnt hit, the rhino is.

I know when it's come up before the only thing you get cover from is Area terrain or rules that give a cover save(a custom force field for example), being on a lower floor of a ruins will not stop you from being hit(though we did rule it would give a cover save). Being inside a building or vehicle means your are safe but being on battlements leaves you open to being hit.
On a side note for future reference, questions about rules like this belong on the You Make Da Call forum.

Most people play it you only get cover saves that are not based on line of sight.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.
