Hi All

Hope you can help me here.

I am looking at building a new list, i'm not too worried about it being competitive but I would maybe like to be able to win a game with it. Currently I am thinking on my Chaos Havoc squad. I have 2 Autocannons, 3 Missile Launchers and a Lascannon. Currently I am playing it with 3 Missile Launchers with Flakk upgrade and a Lascannon. Now I don't really want to go buying any more stuff as I already have too much, so was just wondering how feasible it is to make 2 squads with 3 heavy weapons in each and if its an ok idea to do. If it's not bad, how should I break them up? Should I have 2 Missile Launchers and a Lascannon in one and 2 Autocannons and a Missile Launcher in the other and should I give the Missile Launchers Flakk Missiles?

Also, I am going for a Slaanesh theme, is it worth getting an Icon of Excess for them, or does it work out to expensive? Thinking about it, the Mark of Slaanesh is a bit redundant on a Havoc squad, but what do you think?

I'd say an icon of excess is useful for a big 10-man squad that is used in an aggressive role where their bolters would be useful as well (with special weapons / Heavy Bolters)

mix-matching is usually quite bad, I'd say you need either an extra AC or two extra LC, otherwise, pair your LC with your two AC for something quite similar to a AutoLas pred
And contrary to a lot of people, I tend to field 6 man squad with 3 HW (or 8 guys with 4HW), as 5-man squads with 4 HW are just walking around with a big "shoot me" sign

I usually run a squad of 7 so I have a couple of spare bodies.

So it's possible to do just not recommended. My logic behind mixing the Missile Launchers up is if I take Flakk I at least have 2 units that could do a flyer some damage (hopefully) without having to rely on 6's.

An Icon of Excess then is a bit of a waste if you are sitting back and shooting stuff?

It's expensive on small units, especially if they not be getting torn by lots of small arms fire (which will happen to 10-20 men units of troops)

Well, it's more from the perspective of them getting shot at from either long range, engaged in close combat or having a flyer do their thing on them. I guess a FMC or a flyer would want to target them if they are the only thing that would be able to damage to it.

So from what I have, it would be best to make a bigger squad of 4 HW with maybe 4 extra bodies rather than split them up?

As mentioned, leave the icon off for smaller havoc squads.

Just give them some guns and let them go to town.

the icon is a waste on havocs. first you have to pay 2ppm for MoS then 35 points for the icon. +1 init isnt that useful for havocs.
so at least 45 points for a snipeable 5+ save

5 guys with 4 autocannons is 115 points, so you can basically have 3 units of 5 guys with 4 autocannons or 2 units with 4 autocannons and IoE

Even with 10 havocs, I think the Icon of Excess + 10x marks of Slaanesh are too many points for FNP on a havoc squad. I also don't think that Flakk is worth the points. I'm 'meh" about a missile launcher on a havoc, but if it's already modeled that way, so be it. It's not the worst thing in the world.

When I'm done building my army, I'll have 2x squads with 7 guys (2 ablative wound before the Champion or heavy has to check), and 4x auto cannons. They'll be backed up by a pair of Tzeentch marked Obliterators.

With what you have, I'd take 5 guys with no mark, add VotLW and use the auto and las cannons.
Cheap squad with an extra body bag due to 3 weapons. Keep the lascannon guy as the last man standing.

So really, drop the Icon of Excess and Mark as it's too much for what it is on a Havoc squad. Done.

Is Mark of Nurgle better on a Havoc Squad, I'm guessing it makes them a little more durable for a better cost?

I guess I am going to go for the 2 squads of 3 HW with some extra bodies to soak up damage and will probably leave off the Flakk missiles and hope for the best

Thank you gents.

Ooh thanks, didn't see this one. Why VotLW, just in case they get in CC?

Exactly, I think VotLW is a cheap bit of insurance to keep your heavy weapons on the board longer.

The chance of failing LD 9 = 16.66%
The chance of failing LD 10 = 8.33%

That's 10 points to effectivly half the chances of them running off the board. That's why its such a good investment
